I want to step in here and say a few things, if i may.
1: As a podcaster, I have a responsibility to cover gaming/accessibility news, which i did with the big Pitch Black Controversy. I did this with all the information we had at the time, and i don't regret doing it. If everything being said about Pitch Black was true, the people deserved to know about it.
2: That said, I acknowledge that clearly we didn't know everything, and probably still don't. I can't apologize for covering the news as it stood, but I can offer you that much.
3: As another hobbiest voice actor, and an accredited one as well, I still don't buy the idea that voice actors couldn't be budgeted for. Were this my kickstarter, I would have made a complete cast list, including small parts, and budgeted for each. It would have been a part of the main funding effort. Yes, this would have resulted in increased funding required, but it also would have provided assurance and incentive for the voice actors working on the project that they would be compensated, no matter how small or large their roles. I'm just not sure I agree with the "Everyone jumps in!" idea on a project with funding behind it. If the whole thing was nonprofit, an audio game being constructed by a developer to be sold for free, then I'd agree with it more. Not trying to tell you how to do things, but I am providing my perspective on it.
4: You guys speak of transparency, and I do applaud this message for mostly being that, but here's the thing. Why wouldn't you, when releasing a statement like this, ensure that everyone close to the project received it? Again if this were me, I'd get out in front of controversy like this, and release the statement as an update to the kickstarter project. That way your backers, the people funding the game, are aware of your stance as soon as possible. Not giving this to those people right away doesn't look like transparency to me.
I think that's all i have to say for now. I ultimately do appreciate the post, but I still feel that some things have been mishandled here. Thanks for reading.
