I do think we need to be on better forum software but I also think just hitting the damn button once is a good idea. I think it's possible that some users are just spamming for fun. It's a bit out of control.

I wish I could say that stickying this would help, but we have so many pointless stickied topics at this point that I kind of doubt it.
yeah, even just getting here you have to go past like 7 stickied posts in this topic, and this is the bottum most forum so no one would see it.
I'll leave this stickied for a bit and we'll see where that gets us. The worst thing that happens is that nothing comes of it. In which case, if nothing notable improves, we can unsticky it. Here's to hoping for the best, though.
Why not do a forum announcement instead? I'm willing to bet less people will see it now that it's stickied since the impulse is to spam h until you stop hearing the sss sound.
I don't honestly think anyone checks that either given how long it's been there.
@31 it's been gone for a while now.
Strange, I can still see it, both on the mobile site and the desktop site. I usually skip past it, as I'm sure do most people.
I wonder if we could get like a homepage or something that just displays critical alerts or something, without seeing it on every page and skipping passed it. Or if not a homepage, it could display the date of the message in the notice.
Actually, now you mention it, the subject and the message of the announcement can both be defined by admins, so we probably would notice if they changed it substantially. I hadn’t thought about that.
Hi, there is a note there still regarding the registration system, but the note itself has been changed to reflect we've switched back.
I think putting the date before the word "notice" at the top will increase the chances of someone looking. They could hear different numbers and backtrack. Alternatively, ther ecan be a dismiss button on the page, and when pressed it can modify a variable in the user account to keep that message hidden until it is updated. This way it will only appear once the notice is modified. Of course this solution isn't great for users like me who stay loggged out, but I read the forum, so I'm aware of when it changes.
I've gone ahead and updated the announcement header to include "2024" at the beginning, which should hopefully aid in differentiating the current announcement from the previous one.
I mean, I am willing to provide a box free of charge if you guys would want to that has at least some decent specs, but that is very much if it's wanted or not.
I have an Ubuntu server with 16 gb of ram, 6 cores, 600 gb ssd and unlimited bandwight, it's mostly unused so let me know if I can be of any help.
I would upgrade it if it would help no problem.
