Perhaps a hint system or something like that would be better.
The achievements are purposely left vague to encourage community discussion and engagement. When an achievement is unlock it will show a small bit of text explaining how you unlocked it. Well. Most of the time it will.
This works great in mainstream games, in a week at most somebody will get everything and post a guide, however in a small community this doesn't really work. Nothing against it though, it is the developer's choice, just saying that I prefer in game explanations for achievements in audio games.
With it being a free game, a lot more people will be downloading it, so I suspect most if not all achievements will be found rather quickly.
You do have a point there. Not that you need to get everything in a few days anyways. What about for example, having pieces of paper randomly appear on the grid, however not too often, which contain one achievement spoiler if you pick them up?
Nah. Don't do a hints system. Oh shit has 50+ achievements embedded in it, and the reason I add them is so people can be surprised when they get them, and laugh. The whole point of these badges is to add an extra element of fun/surprise to a game and give it all the more replay value.
Hi.
I would personally like if you got hints on how to unlock the achievements. That would give me more motivation to hunt for them, rather than find some of those just by doing things randomly, or by looking for hints in a massive topic on the forum. But I do respect the choice.
Re: Don't add hints. You want to be surprised by achievements, fine. What prevents you from not reading the hints in the game if they are there? There are different tastes of playing the game for each person, and personally I will never say to a developer to not add something unless it will make it less fun to play a game in a way which I like. This honestly doesn't, just like it is your choice if you want to read spoilers or not. People who are for such hints don't say that they should be right there when you first start the game.
Liam,
This game sounds great!
One thought, since it works sort of like super egg hunt, will we be hunting eggs on a mac in the foreseeable future?
Phil. I don't want to say yes or no at this point.
I'll just say that it could happen and I'll leave it at that.
Absolutely looking forward to this! I don't know if I will get to play the new update on day 1 depending on the release date of course, but if it's 24th or 25th it might be a boxing day (26th) play for me, but that's honestly something fine, gives me something to look forward to. Seriously, with Great Toy Robbery and Beep that's two little audiogames (even if one is more of a joke game), at this Christmas alone, so it's quite exciting.
It would be very fun if:
1. All date specific achievements don't get effected based on the date and time settings on the local computer. It should check the date online instead so people can't cheat.
2. The game will be released on the 26th of December, so people have to wait one year to get the Christmas achievement.
Um... but it's implied. People who want to know how to unlock them are implying that hints should be there for them to see before unlocking the achievements, theoretically when the game starts. I'm just saying - these things are literally just funny, worthless, collectable items. Giving some road map of how to get them all would just make it boring. Anyways.

What I meant is when the game starts was more something like giving you achievement hints even if you don't want to see them. Also, worthless or not depends highly on the game. In judgment day or super egg hunt, they aren't as they unlock new things. In games like yours, beatstar or for now this one, as it stands you are right.
1. Beep actually got released several years ago, but I'm glad you enjoy it.
2. There are no date based achievements.
3. Achievements don't unlock anything in TGTR, but are some fun extras to collect.
Off topic. I know this isn't related to the thread, but speaking of updates, blinded guide needs a pirate sound theme. I love the pirate language option, but it's depressing to play with normal sounds. Maybe make the cars other bigger ships, and the dog a shark? And also, you forgot to put the tree in the learn sounds list.
I hope you add a pirate sound theme to blinded guide, because it just doesn't sound right without one on pirate speak.
Hi
About achievements:
Beatstar does offer an achievement spoilers guide for achievements that have not been unlocked.
I know this kills the fun for some, but it's an option that's there if you want it, it is kind of buried in the achievements menu if you want to find it.
I've got some updates.
The targeted release date for The Great Toy Robbery is December 21st.
Assuming everything goes well, it should be available for download then.
Originally I thought the Mac OSX port was going to be delayed, but things are looking up. there are some issues to hammer out, but I'm very confident.
Also. the count is 58 achievements so far. I hope you all love collecting.
I've listen to your pre-recorded live stream, and I can't wait to play it!
Keep up your great work, we're all excited to play this update once it comes out.
All the best!
Two more days!!! I'm so excited to release this on Friday, and the achievement count has soared to 74.
