I got pretty far in final fantasy xiii and X both. So have many other blind people.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2023-07-04 23:02:12

Wow, this is truly exciting. I have never experienced final fantasy 7 before, but have heard a lot about it.
Will this function like a mod?

@1
Really excited for this! Bought a copy and am looking forward to playing!  Also happy to test and give feedback if you're interested in my input!

@51 can you tell me how you did that? Maybe there were settings I missed but final fantasy xiii I tried with OCR and got pretty much nowhere. If you can give me some tips I'll reinstall it and try again. On ps2, I'm stumped as to how you got anywhere with that. I spent hours with my nose against the screen and got as far as my fully sighted friend got in about half an hour. I completed 4 through 7 back in the day when TV's didn't turn in to fuzz if you get close enough to use the little vision I have left. 5 was always my favourite. 4 kind of sucked and 6 while it had it's good points somehow didn't do it for me. The bit with the ghost train near the start was kind of atmospheric and cool though. I think I did do 1 2 and 3 way back but they would have been on really old sucky consols and don't really count. Although I still have fond memories of Phantasy star on the sega master system. I'll bet I could still remember every cave tower and dungeon on that game. Just another thunk while I'm reliving classic games, wonder if legend of legaia was ever re made for pc? That would be another one I'd love to play with accessibility. Very strange but awsome RPG. Turn based but you could use seru attacks which you had to train up, (kind of like materia etc), or you could use combat where you programmed the attacks. Kind of complicated but as you built up you could add more moves in to your attack and run combos together to use your slots better. So if you had a move that started, left left down up, you combine it with one that starts with  down up or what ever you can work out and you could get these insain attacks going on. Lol would seriously advise checking it out on youtube if there are any videos. Was a very neesh game here in the UK. Bloody hard to get hold of. actually, after I posted I found this on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO0TLhZ … 1C70C8151C

Hi.
@1, congrats on doing this!
Forgive my sounding sceptical, but would this game still be enjoyable for someone who never got to play the original?
If I imagine final fantacy 7, the closest I can get in my mind is paladin of the sky.
For lack of a better way of asking, why should I give this a try? What makes it good in 2023?
Also, do you have any idea when this might be ready?
Would also be interested in testing.
Thanks so much for doing this.

Hopefully, we'll get a fully accessible open world game someday.

Lirin, I recommend you create a donation page for the project so that donations cover any costs you may have with this beautiful project.  I hope this project goes a long way, and doesn't become something like the gothic project

once upon a time, a beautiful little girl who wore a beautiful red hood.  while she was passing through a forest, she was killed by Captain America.  The end...

I would pay to see this completed

Hi guys,

Thanks for positive and kind words!
We are just two who are maintaining and making this project and it's fantastic to hear you are liking this! FF VII is a classic game with excellent story and world / character building in my opinion. I know the FF VII is hard to run as it has this inaccessible Square Enix launcher and it's the same on Steam and when you will get the digital version from SE store.

We're using separate engine to run the original FF VII files and the FF VII launcher is bypassed so don't worry about that! smile

Hard to tell when it will be completed as We need to test everything carefully. It's a lot of work to make everything in the game readable but it's definitely possible. Tracking stuff around is similar to Pokemon series emulated on GB so you have the list and when you will focus on something the radar sound will guide you to the selected object. The tone will change to let you know how far you are from the object.

We're also working on audio for stuff around to hear items, npcs etc

I'll update you with news when the time comes!

Thank you again for your support! We're not looking for any funding for now but when We'll need that you will know about this first. big_smile

Ironically enough, I didn't even recognize the game from the music, but I recognized it from the menu sounds

@55 ff7 is nothing like palidin of the sky. Fun as that is, this was written for a mainstream audience and just getting out to the main open world probably takes as long as completed said game. Same with games like entombed. They would just be like an opening chapter. They don't keep making final fantasy games because a few people went, ooh, that's a bit of fun. They have a huge following for a reason. FF7 is probably the most aclaimed rpg of all time.

As we are bypassing the launcher. Does this mean we'll not need a square account? And does this affect steam cloud saving in any way?

How long do you expect though? Like a couple months? years?  Like how far along are we here?

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2023-07-05 01:51:07

55, you don't need prior knowledge of final fantasy games to enjoy this one as each numbered entry is its own story. The importance of ff7 to the gaming industry as a whole cannot be overemphasized. It dwarfs the size of ff 6 in its original form by a massive margin, and ff 6 was a great game all on its own. Because developers were no longer restricted by size limitations of cartridges, they were able to tell a story on a much larger scale  with richer audio and graphics to boot. Final fantasy 7 is the first game from the franchise to be acknowledge as its properly numbered sequel, because prior to this, only 3 of the last 6 entries were localized, because japanese rpgs were still a niche genre. Paladin of the sky has nothing om this game

i can't put any promises here guys. For sure couple of weeks and this is what I can say for now. smile

Regarding Cloud? I mean Cloud saving! (Cloud is the name of FF VII main character. tongue) no idea how it will work for now. In the worst scenario We wont be able to integrate this feature but We'll see.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on this one. I have never played an FF game, But, I have always wanted to. Now, even though it is 7, being that it is the best one of the series, I will be able to play it now. I can't wait!!! I want to buy the game to get ready for the accessibility addon.

2023-07-05 06:05:14

ff vii bitches!

Blindness isn't a disability, but a diffrent way of seeing things

2023-07-05 06:31:12

Yeah, I'm still salty about gothic. I know this is off topic, but does anyone know about how that's going?
Tbh, I'm a little nervous that this game meats the same fate. I also bought a copy of this in the mean time.

Hopefully, we'll get a fully accessible open world game someday.

2023-07-05 07:40:23

I will definitely keep an eye on this. I would definitely be interested to test things if you want. I am always happy to test and give feedback.

2023-07-05 09:14:17

Yeah I would also be happy to test. I've played the PC version back when I had some sight, so if you think that would be of extra help, just let me know.

2023-07-05 09:32:02

Yeah I also wouldn't mind beta testing, I played the game back in the day with a sighted friend and also have beta testing experience.

Greetings Moritz.

Hail the unholy church of Satan, go share it's greatness.

Hi.
wow. @Lirin: You are awesome.
I have heard so many great things about Final Fantasy 7, so i look very much forward to this.
If you make the engine you are working on payed, then I'll buy it for sure.
If the engine can be used in Final Fantasy 10 as well, that would be totally amazing since the characters are fully voiced in this game.
Keep up the fantastic job.

Best regards SLJ.

Do i need to have purchased the game in order to use the accessibility? Where can i find it on pc?

2023-07-05 12:52:50 (edited by Lirin 2023-07-05 12:53:56)

You can use Steam release or the one purchased from Square Enix Store. There's no difference though.
