Sadly it is, but obviously we all know this is utter nonsense

Is this the real life?
Or is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality

And once again Yonder rap, becomes relevant.

Indeed that poster is one of the most trolly trolls I've ever seen, and I suspect the prurient interest in blind people's sexual habits is because he has also never seen a lady naked who wasn't on a porno site.

But unlike most blind people, isn't likely to either.

The things people will ask on the Internet... Why is it any of that poster's business to know the answer anyway, much less if he asked a sighted person...

Kids would ask me questions like this in seventh grade. So yes, if you have the intelligence of a twelve-year-old boy, I suppose so. Probably just a troll though.

Not to feed trolls but it is an interesting case study.  Some people just like to make rude and off color jokes.  I saw a post from a sighted person that suggesting that you could put a hot dog inside a blind woman and she wouldn't know what was what.  Is it yucky?  Sure.  Could this be taken as a form of abuse?  You bet!  So I moved on with my life.  Most sighted people aren't like that.  Sadly, many people in general can be ignorant.

yes, people think like this. Yes, they're probably a troll.  But they're also saying things that people do actually think, they're just things that people don't say.

This is a bad way to be first exposed to that kind of thinking, but, well, sighted people think we can't cook, clean, etc etc etc, so it shouldn't be surprising that sighted people think we have trouble with sex either.  I have received questions like this often enough from well-meaning people on dating apps, some of whom I have hooked up with even (the deciding factor being whether they're trying to understand, or if they think I'm incapable).

Yeah, have to sadly agree with @8.  The thing is that when you're masked behind annonimity you can jolly well say whatever you like without consequence.  That is the consequence.

When life gives you oranges, demand lemons since everyone else is obviously getting them.

I once answered a question on a morning show about how blind people know their butts are clean when wiping. Saddly some sighted people really are that stupid. I should of said what do sighted people have glass bottum toilets to look at their assholes with? Saddly it was to late by the time I thought of that.

Unfortunately, I don't think that read-it post was just a troll. though is hasn't happened often, I have encountered questions like that before, and as I recall I didn't even dignify the person who asked it with an answer to it. As I said, in my experience i haven't been asked questions like that very many times at all thankfully, but that level of stupidity is certainly out there.

2020-07-27 20:54:13

@Accman, I doubt it's a troll either.

Some people just don't use their brains sometimes when posting.

Oh and yes, I've gotten the whole, how do you whipe your arse question before multiple times.

I'm gone for real :)

My favorite part is where OP admits his dick is the size of a finger.
I mean, they do kinda do that, if they are asking how you may get penises confused with fingers.

The thing is that vision is 100 times the bandwidth of hearing, smell, taste, and touch put together, as a minimum.  I understand why sighted people think this way.  Take away another sense and it's way less of an information loss.  In reality, we're doing the equivalent of looking through a pinhole at the world or something.  And as weird as that sentence is, it also helps make my point--there's no other way to say it really but to use vision-centric language.

I've known many people who have been sighted all their lives, then lost vision in their 30s or somesuch, and it takes an incredibly long time to get back up to speed with basic things like leaving the house, if they ever do.  So I try to give people a pass until it becomes clear that they're not going to get it.  Obviously this Reddit user doesn't get that pass, but my point is that understanding why people don't understand doesn't come naturally to a blind person who's never been sighted, because it's actually hard for many of us to understand vision, too.  I probably wouldn't, if I hadn't had some usable vision to ground my understanding of what it means to have vision in.

TBH I'm curious about this like other sighted people, but I guess I'll find out if I get married or something.
Once one of my friends asked me if I shower with my mother because I'm blind, of course he said it in a funny way and I got a laugh out of it too and replied with no. I'm guessing people who are curious about things like this are using humor not to make us sad or angry. If this is true, calling them stupid wouldn't be any help but make you look bad even though that post was offensive, maybe it wasn't supposed to be judging by the comments. But if it was meant to be offensive we could reply by giving them legit answers and maybe they'll regret doing that after. With all this said, should I post this topic link there for people to realize how some of us visually impaired people feel when reading such posts?

@15
No you shouldn't.  Don't feed the trolls.  Feeding the trolls isn't helpful, and regardless of what ever might have come after, the original poster is a troll.

The actual mechanics of sex are *not* a problem in any way whatsoever, though I'm not willing to go into specifics on this site or with anyone who might be a minor.  But as with many things, if sighted people thought for even a minute they'd remember that lots of sex happens with the lights off.

Whilst I agree that the proportion of information which comes from vision is huge, and curiosity from sighted people about everyday tasks makes some sense (annoying though it is).

In the matter of lovemaking, anyone with even a vague amount of experience in lovemaking knows that, well touch is pretty dam important, heck even sighted people tend to do that in the dark.
Indeed interestingly enough, Alex comfrot's joy of sex has a very sensative, well written and tasteful section about disabled people, he talks about loss of sensation and lack of mobility but doesn't even mention blind people, and in this case I don't think it's because comfort simply forgot blind people exist, it's because he simply didn't see why blind people should be any different.

Lastly however, frankly questions like that are just plane rude, and pretty dam offensive anyway, especially when framed in such a stupidly ignorant fashion as the above poster, who I personally definitely think is an absolute troll.

Oh sorry for double posting, but is it just me or those numbers in that username remind you of something?

What amazes me about folks who are totally sighted is that, while the feedback is so great that they receive from vision, they still miss so much that is right there in front of them. I have lost count of how many times I've encountered that, and I think it's just because sight is so heavily relied upon that, at times, the other senses tend to be taken for granted. They'll say things like, "O don't know how I would ever be able to do what you do if I were to lose my sight",. On one level I understand it, but on another I see the other four senses that they are taking for granted and I find myself hoping that they will never have to find out what it is like. With an "I can't do it" attitude, they'd never be able to make it if they lost their sight. I have also met up with several sighted folks who are sincerely and honestly interested in learning how we do things, and by that I mean every day things like use of technology, gaming, household tasks, and other sorts of important things. It is those folks I love talking with about this because they are demonstrating a true interest in finding out and learning something new. Thankfully, most of my conversations with sighted folks have been very productive.

Two of my favorite T-shirt slogans:

BLIND FOLKS DO IT IN THE DARK!

And

BLIND FOLKS DO IT WITH FEELING!

Then there's the nasty thing I often think when encountering this manner of trollage, but wouldn't put on a T-shirt:

Blindness makes sighted people stupid.

I don't mean vision loss, when a sighted person loses the sense of vision. That is one of the most difficult transitions anyone  mayundergo, and I don't downplay its severity. I mean, *our* blindness makes them stupid. There is something about blindness that causes the average uninformed sighted person to stop thinking clearly. Why else, in these days of COVID-19, would the well-meaning public ignore all social distancing protocols and grab a blind person instead of communicating verbally? Yes, this is still happening, even now. I've encouraged all my blind friends who experience this bad behavior to pretend to cough or sneeze on the offender.

2020-07-27 22:47:00

I feel like it depends. Sometimes questions like these are asked do to ignorance. Other times out of genuine curiosity. And well, other times out of shear stupidity and or beeing a dick on purpose. I A person asked me once a question similar to this... I put that to ignorance / genuine curiosity, it was in a conference I gave so... but yeah. It really depends on the person asking, its not always out of meanness questions like these are asked. In this case, I agree, troll; however this doesn't mean that every sighted person thinks this way, we must not generalize and say, oh, because so and so think this way, therefore all people are like that.

@ignatriay, That being said, OP could have totally justified themselves (either in the original post, or replying to negative comments). That being said, they haven't done this, so I really can't say, but it sounds like to me that they were more Sure, I get that definitely not all blind-related questions asked by the sighted are meant to harm, offend, troll, ETC, but it honestly looks like this one is.

That's what I said as well, this particular question was trollish from the start, I said it in my first post. The fact the OP doesn't reply to comments to justify his point... adds more to the this was ment as trolling, case.
