Is there a skype version that:
1: Is OK to run without administrator permission
2: Is nice and user friendly
3: Isn't forcing me to update
Thanks. Everyone seems to use Skype now, all I can use right now is Skype for web which runs in a browser, but it seems a bit laggy and meh.
Does someone have a better way?

Oh no the screen is changing, it's flashing something!
It's a nasty program! It says, you must update skype now or I will do something nasty. But joy there is a continue button, *happyness*. So I press it, and... It works!
So, either this works, or I will be arrested for malware / virus something or other

I wouldn't trust the link that's been posted here as far as I could throw it and so I will understand if people don't trust this one but it is fromm a trusted website and I have been using it for a while. it's 7.36 something or other I think and I have scanned the proverbial out of it and it is safe. still works so far and has no nasties in it. still asks you to update but you can click no and there are ways round that. but here's a drop box link anyway. no rar files, no passwords, and it does work fine so far. but again I repeat be careful of things like this especially if they are rar files. why put it in an archive if there's no need to?

@9 I'm not sure but I think this is some kind of bisness adition or something. it does work though but I can't be sure it will last for ever. I bet it won't. but so far they shut down the servers for 3.4 and above.

why dont you guys switched out to skype8 with the browse mode active, you can easyly navigate around, yeah the keystrokes are a bit wierd but you know it works fine

Because some of us prefer Jaws and it's trickier with Jaws.
Because some of us prefer to use an older version because of how it looks and operates.
Because the older version is still being supported, and we're all well aware we are very likely to lose it.
Because maybe in that time, Microsoft will eventually get its shit together and improve the UI in some way.
And frankly, because we want to. I see no problem with this.

the reason skype 7.3 is working and 7.4 doesn't, is because 7.4 added a way for microsoft to force you to update, update or quit buttons if something was sent from the API. but now, with skype 7.3, that feature was never added, so you can just get right past that stupid annoying update or quit i'm blocked out of skype 7 stuff

I don't know why you all complain about using skype 8. It's weird, yes. It's unusual, yes. It's much worse than 7, yes. It's quite difficult to get into it, yes. But guys, then why don't you use still windows xp, older folks got used to it, why not to get stuck to it?

I still agree that skype 7 was much better. I still think that skype 8 is a very unnecessary update. But I got used to it. I wish you would have posted like 3 months ago, I would have downloaded it. I don't need it anymore.

Yeah, funny thing about that. I've been using Skype fairly steadily since the summer of 2011 and I have never, ever been abused on skype using /forks or whatever else. Not once. Wonder why that is. Couldn't be because I only add people I trust, now, could it? Seems to me that this has absolutely nothing to do with my version number, so it's not a good method of trying to arm-twist me into upgrading. I'll do it when I please, thanks kindly, and not a moment before. Or I'll do it when I'm forced, at which point I'll just get on and deal. There is absolutely no downside for me using the version I use right now, so I'll continue doing so.

I found a funny forum topic on Microsoft somewhere where people are setting up a yell that Skype 8 lacks nice features, design, that they didn't make 1 separate app for Windows ETC.
It's kinda funny.
BTW, you can extract the .wmi package with 7zip from post 1 and run Skype directly, no need to bother installing.
And I think it's version 7.4, why can I stop it from updating?
