Hi there,
the recent topic about Ultrapower have reminded me one question I was thinking about some time ago and might be worth asking before mods give the up theme on the blacklist.
Does someone have servers of old up games?
You know, I mean the good old version, before items were added to it, with the casino on the safezone and a roof, where you could provoke stronger players by shooting to them and then hiding yourself on a staircase.
It had a central server, however if the application was available, it shouldn't be problem to forward its traffic to my own computer.
I have the game itself, just server is missing. I thought it could be quite nostalgic to play, it was a great game when people were equal and it was all about raging, instead of wasting time by searching for items.
Also the completely first version would be great as well, I don't remember it much, so having an opportunity to play it again would be pleasant.
I have again the game, server is missing.
Only thing I was able to get out of those two were sounds, and they were quite nostalgic as well.
Yeah, and could possibly someone who remembers it better than I do write out a bit of Ultra Power history on one place? i mean who have been developing it since its birth of version 1.0 to the latest about 20, how was the development going etc. I have read somewhere that UP and STW were originally the same project and STW has just branched out of it, is that true? If yes, were there also other branches?
When got it open-sourced, where and why? or was it just a code leak?
if yes, is there an evidence, how has it happened?
You know, the entire story behind Ultra power, from its ambitious beginning to its cloneful end, and how has it influenced our community.
And please try to not attack anyone if possible. Even if there were conflicts, there are always ways how to write it neutrally. I would like this to be a constructive discussion with some nice memories.
Ultrapower is unique game in my view, as it is most likely the audiogame with the highest amount of comebacks in history.
And I don't mean clones, but the main line of the game. i remember it was stated abandonned about four times, and there were four big returns, May be more, as I don't remember the entire history.
Many ag concepts like sidescroller battles or writing maps in text files were strongly supported exactly by Ultra Power, although they weren't completely new. So it seems to me like an important part of audiogames history, which should be written before the memories get lost, so future generations can have an imagination, how was audiogaming developing and what was it to play an audiogame in 2012 for example.
May be I am wrong now, and the influence of UP wasn't so strong at all, I wasn't spending that much time with tracking audiogames field. but here again jumps out the idea of having some written history, like there was a discussion about camera's origin some time ago, so one can build an image of our blind story through the time.
But overall history is thing for another topic, so back to Ultra Power, what was its destiny?
Best regards
Rastislav
