Okay, the readme says I should copy the pack into the Vipmud documents folder. Do they mean the Whole Cosmic Rage folder with the scripts, or do they mean the sound pack?

The only thing difference between 1.1 and 2.0 of vipmud is the location of the vipmud directory.  In short, you will be following steps one and two with the directory being under my documents instead of anywhere else. As for your direct question, yes you do put your soundpack directly into the vipmud folder. In the zip archive I got, this means that everything that is under the soundpack folder in the zip archive except the sync files goes directly into your vipmud folder while you answering yes to the prompts. The pack I have, has a sounds folder and a Cosmic Rage folder under a soundpack folder within the archive. Anyway, you want the sounds folder and the Cosmic Rage folder out of the pack and right in to your vipmud folder. HTH.

Still doesn't work, maybe it isn't compatable with windows 8

Do you have the mudname set to Cosmic Rage on your char setup screen in vipmud? It needs to be set to "Cosmic Rage". Here is what I got my setting set too. I left out the char ref fields, but the rest you should have set to this exzackly. Please note that if you have the URL for the mud, then you can use that instead of the IP if you wish.

character Name: (what ever you like to put here)
Character Ref: (again, what ever you would like to put here)

Hello folks!
First off, soundpacks are not windows OS dependant.
From what I've gathered, and tested, our soundpack works on any version of windows from xp and up.

Next, grab onto your seatbelts, because the follow promise to knock you out of your seats!
Announcements:
Tuesday, 16  May  2017 17:47 n8: hello folks! I'm done changing the support ticket command around, and it is now a lot easier to use, and does not require you to remember all these different numbers. The support command is now also split into several different categories, which should help us, the hosts, get to requests a lot quicker in terms of importance. I've moved the current tickets that were open into the new system -- they appear under the tickets section, and have the subject of an old ticket. Enjoy!

Monday, 15  May  2017 20:37 n8: hello folks! And now, for the second big change of this evening. I proudly bring you the level 750 activity you have all begged me for for ages! bringing you starship wrecking! In this awesome activity, you have a race against time as you attempt to collect small biological cubes from Empty enemy vessels. The story: Today, kayla was presented with a new biological substance that was found on a rade of an enemy vessel. She was not sure what it was, but was worried that it could be the vacus, or another race, making attempts on biological warfare. In an attempt to study more of this, Kayla has issued that anyone who can bring in these cubes, will be rewarded handsomely! this activity includes a new space monster, and much more! See ahelp starship wreck for more information! enjoy!
Monday, 15  May  2017 00:52 n8: hello folks! due to there being a high-majority against, I have introduced a toggle spam filter. Not as great as it sounds, I'm afraid, it doesn't give you instant spam. If you enable the spam filter, the moo will attempt to filter out the spam references, or references with sexual meaning to them. It probably won't be perfect, but it's at least a start. Find this option under display in your options command. It is enabled by default, so those who want it disabled will need to do so. Enjoy

Friday, 12  May  2017 14:04 n8: hello folks! Are you sick and tired of overlapping fields? Are you a newbie, who can't find an asteroid? No problem! Bringing you, our new field system! This new system has the fields a little more spread out then they were before, meaning they will not overlap! Furthermore, we should no longer be getting any in local space! How does this benefet newbies, you may ask? Well, from now onwards, we have a sort of grading system. When you leave locals, you will see only asteroid fields until you are 1000 units out. Then only planetoids up to 3000, then nebula, then a mix. Enjoy!
Monday, 15  May  2017 17:08 n8: hello folks! Bringing you the first two of tonights big changes... 1. Tarania. You what? I'm proud to bring you, a brand-spankin' new planet! Quite an interesting one, it sits at the exact distance so that nature balances evaporation against snow, to make it so that the planet is in a constant snowstorm! There is more information in a book that can be bought on the planet, and it will be the main unloading place for a later activity which is due to be released in an hour or two. Second change: 2. Farming! I bring you the first of tonights new events. Are you a gardener? Do you want to grow crops, look after animals, or balance cash flow? If you answered yes to one or more of the above, farming is for you! Staged at level 150, this highly-interesting activity has you balancing costs against revenue as you grow crops and look after varieties of animals while juggling costs for electricity, and the occasional fence repair. Farms can be, as you may have guessed, bought on tarania, and the help file that relates is, of course, ahel farming. I Hope you enjoy the first of these changes, as well as the second, and thank you all for your continued support, both on here, tmc, rs games, twitter, facebook and more. Essentially, thanks for playing and, enjoy!

I am not great with time based activities, but from what I read in the help file, the timing would make sense. Now if I can fine away in and out without diing. I also need to get around to doing stars to. That is also something I ment to try but never have.... As a side note, is it just me or are you making the placement of my factory good for me for a change dardar? I bring this up sample because my factory is more than 4000 out. Just saying.

well I decided to give the game another try since the farming and such sounds cool accept that I ran into problems.

First, I seem to be in the middle of the starship quest with a vanished doughnut.
Second and more urgently I have a planetary delivery chain  requested me to go to recycler number something or other, and apparently recyclers aren't open to players. I did submit an assist but I don't think any admins are available.

third, so I decide to go and try some asteroid harvesting and hauling and find that combat is now even more impossible than it was since now it's impossible to get the coordinates of enemy ships without them being within targeting range, and I cant' get within targeting range because I can't know their coordinates etc etc.

So predicrably I drop the cloak on my hauler to begin roid hauling  predictably, my ship is dead within about five seconds.

It actually seems that for all there are so called combat ships and mining ships and so many dam other sorts of ships basically combat is have a cloak or die, and the only ship with a cloak is the asteroid hauler.

This also means yet more  around from shop to shop buying upgrades after upgrade.
I actually don't mind losing the money (a few ground combat missions get it back nicely), but there is soooo much to buy and build (including a new cargo expantion drone),  it actually makes the shopping part really! boring.

So firstly, how the hell is combat supposed to work? secondly, is it possible to actually survive without a bloody cloak, and thirdly, could we please! have an option to create an upgrade profile somewhere so if we get a ship go boom we just go and get the profile back without having to go and buy upgrades for each mineral type,  asteroid equipment, debris lines, extra cargo bay (because of course the one ship with a cloak doesn't have a cargo bay), etc etc.

Sorry to complain, but it's mildly disappointing to lose probably my fifth ship in this way, and face the prospect of yet  wandering around from shop to shop stocking up on the same old gear again just to try next time, ---- quite aside from the fact that combat as I said seems pretty much a circula impossibility (even with a cloak).

hello
dark, who are you in cr?

Let's what I can answer for you dark. As for the doughnut, buy another from that man you got it from in the first time. Food gets old and disappear within game. Now for you upgrade question, get a factory. one of the rooms that you can add to a factory is a drydock. Drydocks allow you to save the profile of your ship. This means that you can reconstruct a replacement when ever you wish. I think that there are some factories within game that will do that job for you for a price if you wish. Drydocks also allow for rebuilding of rooms that have been touched by fire if needed. As for those astraroid fields, all I can tell you is to use the drones. Another note worth noting is that some factories will sell you weapons and the like to install on to your ship. You could say that if you see david Brooks around, you might find that he can be some what helpfull at the vary least.

Well my character is akrinax pearl grey scale in game, though I'd prefer to work things out myself. I'm currently level 159, and am working through the activities in sequence to try everything.

This business of  upgrades and combat is again  why I got mildly frustrated with the game and quit since it seemed there was no way to get into activities I'd not tried.
Asteroid hauling is available at level 110, and yet the only ship with any survival value is the asteroid hauler because it's the only one with a cloak, and that was even before the change to combat which now seems to make knowing the coordinates of enemies impossible. I have level 5 I believe in weaponry skill, but I've not even seen! any ships with weapons better than the lasers and beam cannon, missiles  of no use at  since I cannot use them from my control room, and besides flying anywhere without a cloak =  death, including decloaking to haul the dam asteroids, this aside from the fact that trying harvesting, debris collecting or anything else in an asteroid hauler involves buying room upgrades and then building the cargo bay (which means buying yet another drone and more plates since god knows where my last one has gone).

I do like the games' upgrade system, but the combat needs maaaaaajor! work (the help file is really inadequate), ships need some huge rebalancing to actually give people the tools to perform activities at the levels  are supposed to do them, and there really! needs to be a way to avoid  all that tedius wandering around so many dam shops to get the sodding upgrades.

Okay, rant orver. I suppose I will try the game again, though god knows what I should try in ship terms, since   whether the ship has a cloak is really the only decent thing a ship can have and everything else needs to be bought as an upgrade.

Dark. I agreed that ships do need a bit of work done to them. Have you tried typing field as soon as you launch from the roid? That should pull you out of that field and allow you to adjust your autostop and other things in such away you do not enter any fields or the like on the way back to the beacon station. That may need a bit of carefull timing for you. Another thing, you do have a ship in your docking bay so that you can get yourself on to the beacon station to take care of that roid? I am not to sure if teleporting down would help in this case. As for weapons, ask on around on comms, there are weapons that you should beable to install your self. I just do not know the level of said weapon and you may not have access to them. Have you got the micro drones for your ship? I will have to go look to see at what level you get these, but these take hits for your ship and do need replacing from time to time, but they should buy you time to raise shields defense systems and cloke. Also, you ever wonder why say david never done stars? I can tell you that there is of the reason of trying to figure out exzackly what the timing is before blowing up. After all, you got to set your course and hit the warp drive ASAP to live there.

hi guys,

can anyone help me?

I just installed vip and tried to log on to this game but when I connect it says error log about 10 times and I can't do anything withought it saying error log.

this is what I did on the vip screen. I typed in,

cosmic rage
cosmicrage.nathantech.net
port 7777

then I hit connect

is this right?  sorry for the stupidity but I have only ever used mush z.

@Dark I knew that was you last night, recognized your writing style right off. Yeah, as someone just getting started, the deck is stacked against you, You kind of have to hunt them down and kill them, and then go to a roid, decloak and all that and land, then anchor.

It is very imbalanced, as are many things in the game. They need someone with the time and patience to make fine tuning adjustments and stuff. I think they should look to the HTPL's and pick one who might want to take a step up, I actually had someone in mind, but yeah, not my place. but someone who can become a host and then would be trusted to balance things out, because we need it. CR is a great game, but can be very frustrating at times, especially when you're first starting out.

Also, this whole thing about soloing, well, you can do it, but CR is a roleplay game and you have more fun that way. I could take you out and get you doing this stuff, We'd be fighting biggger enemies, but you could learn combat with a ship that can take a bit of punishment.

As regards Vipmud you can find explanations of connection info in This topic

Sorry to effectively not explain but as that topic isn't too old I'm afraid I'm being a little lazy and not wanting to repeat the explanation from there.

As to Cosmic rage, @Rioncross, if the activities in the game cannot be soloed, then they need to be marked as group, that way solo players will know not to try them.

If people enjoy grouping activities, fare enough, but that's just not why I play muds, and yes, I know that the idea of playing a multiplayer game for solo activities does seem a little paradoxical, however given the absence of single player games with theme and activities muds are what we have, and indeed muds are quite able to accommodate both solo and group orientated players.

likewise, if combat isn't possible in a ship of a lowerlevel, then activities should not be made available equipment is adequate to do them.

I apologise for the tone of my last post,  I had spent all night awake and probably wasn't in the best humour when I wrote it, but I do hope that the admins take a good look at combat, especially in asteroid fields and do some rebalancing, also that  and their stats and accessaries will be a little more logical.

I'm afraid this is why I moved on from Cosmic rage previously. I'd tried all the activities up to that point from ore collecting to debris salvage and generally enjoyed them incredibly, but the second ship combat got into the mix everything went to hell.

I would suggest the following:

1: better balance of ships for activities and equipping of cloaks on ship types like frigates to actually make combat possible while harvesting etc.

2: Actual availability of weaponry.

3: a halfway decent explanation of how to find and destroy enemy ships in the combat help file, ---- preferably including how to do it without basically constantly relying on the cloak.

4:  schematic insurance so that once you'd bought a ship with all it's upgrades you don't have to trek round buying them all again (this coul obviously be expensive).

Btw, it also makes absolutely no difference if say you can build weapons in your factory at level 200 or whatever. If it is intended that players get into ship combat in asteroid fields at level 110, players need equipment at level 110 that is adequate to the task, end of story!

If this means overhauling ships and actually giving players something vaguely affective at lower levels (other than that one asteroid  who's only asset is the cloak), then so be it.

I have really enjoyed cosmic rage, but I'm afraid this imbalance is seriously putting me off the game at the moment, since what is the point of a space game where flying out of known space and attempting to actually explore is instant death?

Thumbs up

no, you don't have to do them with other people, I'm just saying, at some point you're gonna have to RP, or just be that one guy who doesn't and no one talks to, lol. Everyone else roleplays there.

Yeah I agree about that, here's the facts though, you literally will not be surviving without your cloak for a while, so forget that.I was trying to explain to you last night how to move and find ships, What you really need is the upgrade on upgrade mania to make your scanners more powerful so they can penetrate the enemy shielding, if you do that, then you can use course last after having scanned a ship to plot a course to it then speed 40 to it. Well, I agree also that its imbalanced as all hell, but, you don't need need plasma cannons right now either. Manual navigation is probably the best way to find a ship, use distance on it, it will give you relative bearings on each axis, like X, -72, Y, 130, Z, -98. Basically all three numbers need to be in the range 25 to -25 units or you cannot lock, and you also won't get ec to work. I bet I lost damn near 15 ships so far, literally, I was so damn pissed I nearly ripped my door off its hinges.

It needs a proper going over by someone who knows how to do this stuff, and will tweak until it feels right.

One suggestion I made via the suggest command in game is this, and I don't mine re-iterating it here because it makes a lot of sense. If a host makes changes to an activity, that host should be abliged to play through that activity at least once, or for a flat time like 10 minutes to see if what changes they made did what. Also, play it in a low level ship as well. I think that would get things right real fast. They forget what its like to be just starting out, and oh well change two things somewhere in the code and now its all better, well, you're the one who changed it, so play it to make sure of that.

Thanks for putting in that suggestion ironcross. As far as I can tell, you worded well if your post was anything to go by. It seems as if the higher the player base is over all, the harder and or mre unbalanced the lower end of the player base is making it harder for new players to level up well. speaking in whitch, I need to log in again in the next day or so. I wonder how the newest activity of ship recks will be for me... Guess I got to try some day.

I think the link can be found on the first post of this topic. On the other hand, I just tried out the battlesuit and found it interesting. Now if the ground crew of a ship needs to talk to each other and the ship they came from without having to put up with extra comm chatter, that would be extra nice. I could be over looking something here.... Anyway, the tactical array to the battle suit is a nice touch. If you do not know where I am talking about here when the who talking to each other and the ship thing, just think of star trek and the people they beamed to plannents from time to time.

@Mahdi, if you go to the front of this site you will find a huge database of many games which includes pages for games like cosmic rage, this will tell you all about the games and how to play them, since cosmic rage is a mud, you need to connect to it with a mud client program rather than just  download the game and run it or play on the website.

@Ironcross, I was having trouble with asteroids and combat previously, and now without distance info available it seems close to impossible. In particular it would be nice to actually be able to use different ships rather than being stuck in that same asteroid hauler with almost zero armour and need to buy a tonne of upgrades for even to do basic activities like salvage, building deliveries or orbit cleaning, but which has literally the only chance of surviving in an asteroid field because it's the only ship with a bloody cloak.
