Telesensory Systems Inc. created probably the world's first commercial stereo audio game with speech: The Game Center model E1A in 1977.

It had 8 games in total. You can listen to the audio-cassette instructions and some of the game-play here: https://youtu.be/au9u3s-qI4M.

Lots more information can be found here: https://www.oneswitch.org.uk/art.php?id=366

Is there a developer who would like to preserve this history further in making a simulation of this game? Ideally for PC using original samples from these tapes and a TSI Speech+ calculator which I should be able to help with in the coming months.

Please reach out here, or at [email protected] if seriously interested. Perhaps it could be hosted at itch.io and OneSwitch.org.uk and given some sort of home here at AudioGames.net?

Fingers crossed...

I've also put a call for developer help out at Twitter here: https://twitter.com/OneSwitch/status/17 … 0232075638 - and will try on Reddit calling people back here. If anyone would like to put a call out elsewhere that may help, please feel free to do so.

you could put a call on the various subreddits maybe.

Good news. Three people have shown interest. I've also got the sound samples up of the speech, so it should sound quite accurate.

Wow. Keep up the awesomeness.

Best regards SLJ.
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.

Thanks for the offers of help. I've asked the current coders who have expressed an interest in working on this.

I have uploaded raw and slightly tweaked samples of the TSI Speech+ calculator, which uses the same speech chip as The Game Center. You can listen to them here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/xu2j9m58 … 9&dl=0

If anyone is interested in flow-charting the rules for any of the 8 games, that could be very helpful for anyone wanting to make a remake. I wonder who will make the first.

in the latest enhanced folder that contains all the sounds, there's a douplicate of minus in there, in place of equals. Also do we have that strange static birst that plays when you turn the system on or will I need to trim that from the tape recording?

2024-03-19 21:45:42

Thanks for pointing that out. I think that's tidied up now.

There's a few sounds left to grab from the tape recorded instructions, including the Paddleball sounds, and the bleeping sounds... or to try to replicate in otherways. Good luck!

The padle ball sounds should be recreated live in game since they are just basic pulce waves. There's too much going on in the tape audio, not to mention the huge amounts of flutter durring that section and probably the whole recording that make it difficult to get sounds from. Can I convert the youtube video to trimb sounds from? I don't want to take it unless I get the go ahead.

For me it is Easier just to create my own I am just using the video as reference material and seeing how close i can get.
