Hi all.

I have followed the development of Minecraft Dungeon by reading the changelogs, and they have really improved the accessibility a lot in this game.

I decided to buy it on my Playstation, and wow what a big difference from the last time I tried it, right after the release.

The game is not fully accessible yet, but it is very close to be fully accessible. Here is what I've figured out so far:

The narrator reads everything as far as I know. It reads the following:
It reads all the menus, inventory, when you can interact with something, what you pick up, travel points, mission objectives, the stories of the missions and more. This is amazing, and a huge improvement.
The TTS in the game when not having a screenreader could really be improved. But, it reads so much that I'm blown away.

I have created a topic in the feedback forum containing some ideas on how to make the game fully accessible to blind gamers, and here I need your help. If you want the game to be more accessible, maybe fully blind accessible, then I'll recommend you to purchase the game, give it a try and help by submitting your comments in my feedback topic.
Here is the link to the feedback topic. A Microsoft account is required to submit a comment:

Here is some information for those who wanna purchase the game, give it a try and help by submitting your feedback to hopefuly make it fully accessible to blind gamers:

The game is available for Windows, Playstation, XBox and Nintendo Switch.
If you have a screenreader running, either in Windows or Narrator on the XBox, then the screenreader should be used. I have only tested that on my XBox long time ago, so I can't speak for Windows, but their support page says it should work.
If you're playing this on pc, the launcher should be accessible as well. Again, I haven't tested that, but you can find some information about that on their support page.
Link to the support page:
https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/accessibility/dungeons/

Here is how to get started, if you wish to play on a Playstation or Nintendo Switch, where the game uses its own TTS, which is crappy, but it works:
When you launch the game for the very first time, do, not, press Cross or A to continue. You have to wait with patience until the game has started.
The very first menu is the accessibility menu. The first menu item is narration, which speaks when it's selected. The narration is slow. So if you are too fast, you will mess it up. So, navigate slowly.
1. Navigate to the first menu item, which will announce if the narration is turned on or off.
2. Press the right arrow, and listen carefully to make sure the narration is turned on.
3. Now, you can press cross or A depending on what console you're using to continue.

I hope a few people will purchase the game, help testing it and help by submitting some great feedback, to hopefully make it more accessible. If you have Gamepass, then you already have it for free.

Lets make the game fully accessible, together.

Best regards SLJ.

thinking to get game pass and give this a try. I have seen sightless combat playing this, so maybe for now play with some friends is the way to go until they add more accessibility options

Sorry for my english

Hello guys!
If I buy the game, could I play today being totally blind?

And accessibility works in other languages Like Brazilian Portuguese, or only in English?

2021-05-05 20:03:11

Hi.
@alisson: I hope you'll submit your feedback in the feedback topic if you give the game a try.
@Diego: Please read post 1 more carefully. No, the game is not fully accessible yet. This is why I'm asking you to help by submitting some feedback in the feedback topic.
The build in TTS is only in English. I don't know if the text will be read in other languages when using a screenreader.

Best regards SLJ.

what part of the game is accessible in comparison to not accessible?

2021-05-05 20:41:15

How playable is the game as it currently stands? Has anyone streamed or recorded their experiences with it? Is there much we can do as far as navigation goes?

Trying to free my mind before the end of the world.

2021-05-05 20:57:04

I wouldn't bother spending actual money on this currently unless you've got game pass. The TTs is good, but there are currently no navigational aides, which we would need to actually play. So you won't be getting anywhere on your own.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2021-05-05 21:52:15

Hi.
@mmaslo: 1. All menus are accessible.
2. Mission objectives, the stories of the missions, browsing missions and accepting missions are accessible.
3. The TTS reads what you picks up.
4. Interactables are being read, including travel points.
5. Combat: Your health is being read if you loose any health while fighting. Ranging weapons seems to auto aim at the enemies.
The following are inaccessible:
1. Navigation. You have to wander around, a lot. However, the footsteps stops when you walk into walls, and the ambient sounds changes a lot, so you can use them for navigation.
2. You don't know where the items are, unless you walk into them.
There might be more, but that's what I've discovered so far.
@BoundTo: I hope that have answered your questions as well. Feel free to ask if you have more questions.
@Stirlock: Since you've tried the game, I imagine you've noticed the footsteps stops when walking into a wall, and the great ambience sounds as well? I hope you'll help by adding some great comments in the feedback topic to hopefully improve the game. Navigating is doable because of the great ambience and the footsteps which stops when running into the walls, but it takes a ton of patience.
Again, I hope more people are willing to give the game a try, and help by submitting some feedback to improve the accessibility in the game.

Best regards SLJ.

I will try it out after I get off of work.

2021-05-06 00:51:15

Weirdly I found this more difficult than diablo.

Silly Gohan, animals don't eat people. People eat animals.

I installed it and the menus read good. I will try the game in a bit. If it is harder to maneuver then Diablo I will not enjoy it for I gave up on Diablo along time ago

I tried it a while back and no.

@SLJ,
Exactly what is this game about?  Is it fighting, exploring, or what?  Does it have a story, or is it only multiplayer?  Would it be better to get it on XBox or Windows?  Does it use the native XBox screen reader, or is it like TLOU2, where they have an in-game screen reader?  I'm interested in giving it a try.  I just want some info so I know what things I should be looking for.

2021-05-06 07:55:08

@death: How is it more difficult than Diablo? I haven't tried Diablo yet.
@GrannyCheeseWheel: Why no? A lot of people tried it a while ago where it was less accessible. If people only will try a game once and don't care about it after it has been improved a lot and help by giving some feedback, then the world will never change. Do you not want more accessible games?
@JLove: I'll copy all your questions in the post, and write my answers between them:
Exactly what is this game about?  Is it fighting, exploring, or what?
The game is both fighting and exploring.
Does it have a story, or is it only multiplayer?
It is both story based, and it also have multiplayer. You can play the story both as single player and as multiplayer.
Would it be better to get it on XBox or Windows?
That I can't answer, because I haven't tried it in Windows. But if you have Gamepass, then you'll have it for free.
Does it use the native XBox screen reader, or is it like TLOU2, where they have an in-game screen reader?
In Windows and on the XBox, it uses the screenreader. On other consoles, it have a build in speech with a terrible voice, but it's better than nothing.
I'm interested in giving it a try.  I just want some info so I know what things I should be looking for.
I hope that information plus all the information in post 1 helps. Thank you very much for your interest. But remember: The game is not fully accessible yet.

Best regards SLJ.

I tried it last night and started the tutorial and was unable to complete it. I am going to see if I can adjust the volume levels to see if it helps.

2021-05-06 15:31:07

It was just harder to navigate than diablo for me. It made the game unenjoiable to play, at least for me.

@mmaslo: Just skip the tutorial. You can skip it from the Pause menu. Then you'll have access to the missions.
@death: Interesting. Maybe I should give Diablo a try anyway.
@hannes: Sorry, I don't know, since the navigation is not very accessible yet. But you can walk around with some patience.

Best regards SLJ.

Diablo is extremely frustrating because it’s just like this game you have no clue on where you’re going. As others have said if you are patient you may be able to figure it out. I never was that patient and then you need the lion  add-on for NVDA

2021-05-07 06:05:43

So, I will note a couple of things.  The menus read beautifully.  Even the controls are read so that you can see the key bindings.  The audio is done in such a way that while navigation is not strictly accessible, it is possible to recognize doors as well as dangers.  I managed to complete several objectives of the tutorial.  I like how health status is read.  I'm currently stuck on the, "secure the internal gate" objective, as I'm not sure where the gate actually is, or how to secure it.
A couple of things that could be improved.  First, adjustments to the rate of narration would be a good thing, as would interrupt when I'm arrowing around in the menus.  Also, the map (opened by pressing down on the directional pad) is not accessible at all.  Nothing reads.  And having some sort of audio cue for items would be a good thing as well, so that we know they're in the area to be picked up.
I like the way the audio has been laid out, because it is going to make navigation awesome if they just fine tune some things a bit.  These are just my first impressions.  Overall, a very solid start.

@JLove: Thanks a ton for checking out the game. Please post your great feedback in the feedback topic. There have already been posted some great comments by other blind gamers. Lets help the company to make the game more accessible.

Hello I played with it a lot more and I like it. I was able to kill zombies or whatever they are. The hardest thing is navigation and finding things. Good start

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't consistently fall off of ledges.

I am trying to do one of the missions and I can’t seem to find the villager as well as the caravan
