I never searched on that thing because I don't have an account, but my sister always watches videos and well, I'm not sure why is it good for people to make themselves idiots publicly. There might be reasonable content, but 99 percent of it is just bullshit.

First off, just because you think that content isn't worth your time or effort, there's probably hundreds of people just for you who think otherwise. And yes, TikTok is absolutely not the only service to be doing this, so we might as well just be picking on every single part of the Internet.

Here's the funny thing though: there is absolutely no evidence to prove that TikTok is spying on us from the Chinese government. Absolutely no evidence at all. The government is up in arms because of some vague possibility that hasn't even been proven. And what about the hardware we get from China? What about the iPhone you buy? Yeah, parts from that come from... uh... China! He gonna ban all that too and leave our economy completely devoid of critical parts we need? Yeah, he does that and he'll be out of office for sure for pretty much ruining every computer manufacturer in the country. Make America great again my ass. He hasn't made it great, he's made it about a hundred times worse. And, okay, I get it -- get rid of China because people are practically enslaved to work at companies there. But that's... kinda impossible given how dependent we are on China. Take China away and you've just completely destroyed our economy and made it impossible to acquire critical resources for our technology. And how is he going to ban TikTok exactly? Google doesn't have to follow his executive order (it would be illegal for them to do it, but its not like they don't have the money to get out of anything that the gov throws at them), and the gov can't exactly Sue google for a hundred billion dollars. They'd never make it through the court -- Trump's claims would need to be proven (that TikTok is a danger to its users) first. Same for Apple. He's literally playing a game he can't win. Google and Apple could probably trivially cripple the government and there's absolutely nothing they could do about it. All they have to do is say "OK, block sign-ins from all government-issued devices" and bamb.
Edit: Also, its very unlikely any tech giant would obey his executive order. Its a massive abuse of the authority of the executive branch, and banning the app could open up a vacuum for malware authors.

@12, that's not a national security risk. Not even close. MAC addresses are not security-sensitive. They're transmitted every single time you make a network request to your router or switch. Your router's MAC address is transmitted while transmitting a network request across the internet. If they were collecting SSNs, text messages and such, then I'd say yeah, that's a security risk. But a MAC address? Really? Sorry, I don't buy that. Oh, and they can be spoofed too -- MAC addresses, I mean.

@14, I never said that it was like that. People don't like TikTok for various reasons: the death counters, the fucked up challenges that people do on there... I could go on. But going so far as to call it a national security risk -- and then subsequently attempting to ban it -- is utterly ridiculous.
