Well, as this seems to be a time for me to try new stuff, ---- like smugglers 2, I thought I'd give Kingdom of Loathing another serious go, sinse I know a lot of people have had fun with iit and the humer was amusing. Despite my fondness for squeeze boxes (as I play one), I resisted the urge to play as an accordian thief, and go for a good solid seal clubber instead.

I can now see why Jayde said the thief was the hardest character class, ---- I'm only on my second day and I'm already level four and going through the rats quest. I love the way they've finally! added lables to all those wrotten immages, ---- it's really nice not to have to guess at what locations are from some really complex javascript link url, and it doesn't half speed things up. Hopefully this time I'll have the chance to see what this assention stuff is all about and maybe play a bit more seriously, ---- at least I won't be pvp'ed into submittion as I was on muelsfell, thanks to the hippy stone.

Right now though, my biggest irritation is lack of adventures! I really want to play the game, but there just aren't enough advs around, ---- imho they should do something like gothador did and give more advs to people who donate to the game.

I know eating and drinking can get you more advs, ---- but you can only drink and eat so much, and getting the higher level decent quality consumables seems quite a task, ---- especially as you need an eZ bake oven and a cocktale kit before you can even start experimenting with recipes, ----- or checking the wiki for them of course.

I could buy them from other players of course, but A, I'd really rather make my own, and B, I'm trying to save all my meet to buy seal clubbing skills anyway.

I'm also interested to see what happens with the hole familiars thing. I've got my mosquito, ---- but I never managed to discover any more of them, even when i played an accordian thief to level 6 (though I'm thinking I'm going to be getting to seal clubber level 6 much sooner).

Btw, is there any point me looking into clans as I'm not into pvp? I know in Logd clans could stil be really handy, ---- but then again Logd had forced pvp anyway.

Oh, and to anticipate people's questions, Kingdom of Loathing, or KoL, is a highly surreal, rather fun, but strangely complex free online brouser based game (audio games.net page pending as and when I have the time to write it). You can find the game at http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/login.php

Try to just explore around. I didn't know they'd finally put labels on those graphics.

Not quite all of them, ---- but many of them I think.

Are you a player as well? I've recently discovered that the game actually has a rather accessible chat system in hal's vf, ---- which has to be a first. I'm now seal clubber lvl 6 after only five days woohoo! and am going after the knob goblin king and the guild quest for the meat car.

things are certainly proving fun thus far, and the other players are actually reasonable, ---- one of them even sent me a new familiar, and a guide to some good recipes, which was nice, and is proving most helpful.

stil lack of advs is a pest.

Ah yes, Kingdom of Loathing. I have a character on there, Xarniwhoop. He's a level seven Disco Bandit. Lately I've been having trouble defeating the Knob Gobblin King. It's actually been quite a while since I played.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

i am also a player. i am a disco bandit level 3 and i am to the quest meat car, but i don't know how to complete it. how to enter in the chat?

Hay Bryan, I'm on the goblin king at the moment, though I haven't got to fight him yet, sinse everytime I try it says I need something to destract him. on the other hand, I keep getting beaten up by the knob goblin scientists in the labs, so maybe there's some handy items there. When I've got a bit tougher and bought some more items of doom I'll see what happens.

for the car, you can get most of the components from degrassi knoll, particularly from fighting the gear heads and finding the knollish tool boxes. The only item you can't get are the rims, ---- but ther hermit has those. I'm just working out which way to put everything together to make the car.

About the chat system, first, you have to pass the test of literacy found at the alter of literacy in seaside town. Once that's done there'll be a "enter the chat" link under the map.

I'd recommend using the old chat system (again there's a link), sinse it doesn't auto refresh but has a button for that, which makes reading with screen readers much more helpful.

Hmmm, you mean the question "What was the colour of George washington's favourite black horse?"

I'll leave you to work that one out for yourself I think. when you know the answer, just type it into the box.

Nin, as I said before, you can get all the items from the gear heads in degrassy knoll, accept for the rims. You can get those from the hermit, who you should've visited in the tutorial quest.

If your lacking the meet stack, try degrassy knoll some more, and if your really stuck, try the haunted conservatry (you'll need to adventure in the haunted pantry a bit to get there), as some of the plants in there give up meet stacks fairly often.

Actually dark, what you need to distract te Gobblin King are a Knob Gobblin Harrum Veil and some Knob Gobblin Perfume. They can both be found with the Harrum girls. That will allow you to get i close to the king. But be warned, he hits quite hard and he's hardd to damage. I'm at level seven and he still makes mince meat out of me, so I don't know if that's the right level to take him on.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

I'm a level 1 (toad coach) turtle tamer who has got a problem with the frames. I can't see the main frame. I've tried refreshing, and i've tried to log in and out. The frame doesn't appear.

I live to crochet!

Hey all! I haven't posted in a while, but I was just wondering if KoL is a MUD or browser-based.

browser based

Ah cool! What is the URL?
Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, but I'm interested in this.

2008-05-16 13:48:26

Hmmmm James, I thought I posted the url in the start of this topic especially to answer these sorts of questions. If you need it again it's http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/login.php

I remember the frame sometimes vanishing on me when i was using earlier versions of Hal (particularly Hal v5), that was actually one reason I didn't play the game much. the best way of solving the problem I found was usually to logue out and completely close the window, then open up Ie and start again from the logue in page, ---- but I gather you've already tried that. With hal V9 it seems to work alright though.

as to the boss bat, he was a hard fight. I bought some junk male pants, and used a lot of items that gave positive buffs, ---- such as the fireflower I got from the eight bit realm.

I did wonder if a disguize was the solution to defeating the goblin king Bryan, sinse I've already picked up the hariem pants, but looking at the description of the knob goblin polearm I recently got from one of the guards, that seems to be part of the guardsman's outfit, so I wonder if that will work. It would also have the advantage of not being too underpowered, sinse the polearm has power 60.

the quest I'm really stuck on at the moment is how to get the second half of my legendary weapon. I've got the seal tooth from the hermit, and I've been in the casino, but nothing turns up on the adventures which is irritating.

At least though I've got the goblin king, and my newly created meat car to keep me busy.

I don't even know what most of that stuff is Dark. As for the GObblin King, you have to be a harrum girl in order to fight him. Again though, he hits incredibly hard. And any weapon that might be able to put him out of my misery is beyond my skill to use. Then I don't reall like the 200-adv a day limit and having to eat and drink in order to keep playing. That only takes you so far and then you either get too full or too drunk to do anything. That's why I still prefer good ol' Sryth. I just realized that come this October or November I'll have been playing Sryth for exactly four years.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2008-05-16 20:38:20

Agreed, I love Sryth. the only problem is that I ran out of things to do. But as I haven't played for a few months, a backlogue should have built up by now, so I'll sit down for a weekend and give it a bash.

i enjoy KoL for a bit of fun, the adv limit is  a pain, but I do enjoy the puzle elements of the game and the writing, and I've certainly got enough time to play that and Sryth.

The buffs thing Bryan is just using the various items like tonics skills and things that give effects which last a number of adventures,  ---- such as using skills. KoL seems to be a game where you really need to prepare for fights.

The legendary weapon thing is from the guild quests, but you need to pass all your challenges and join the guild properly first.

Nin, I believe it's the hermit who has the first part of the legendary weapon, and the second part at the casino.
