Hi all,

I've downloaded an Ubuntu Mate iso and planning to install it on VM, but Orca doesn't read the installer window. It just says install as super user, something like that, when alt tab around. Is installing Ubuntu Mate on VM not possible anymore?
Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

try rebooting the vm. if that doesn't work use the normal ubuntu dvd image and install mate after the installation of gnome.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.

hi,
the accessibility profile is not being loaded,
this is why you get the in accessible install screen.
you need to launch a terminal
control plus alt plus t
type
pkill -9 ubiquity.
that will kill the installer process and boot you in to the full live session.
wate a few seconds give it around 10 seconds, press alt plus f2 type orca --replace to launch orca.
you then need to enable assistive technology from the preferences menu after you have done that, you need to log out then back in to the live session.
go to the desktop
there should be a install ubuntu-mate item, press enter on that,
and the installer should be accessible again.
I don't have a ubuntu iso on me currently but last time I tryed these stepps worked for me.
please would you tell me if it works or not?

I just want to thank you for such a concise and clearly-written post.

Glad you're still around to help us lesser mortals with all our Linux needs.

@6

anytime!
if you are who I believe you to be hit me up on dem socials big_smile
I am currently rocking windows 10.
with the application called simplewall installed.
it's a better gui for the built in firewall.
sorry for going magerly ot!
ever since luke yelavich the lede dev on ubuntu accessibility left, accessibility has fallen by the wayside.
not as much development on the accessibility side for ubuntu is happening.
so my choise for linux distro is fedora or debian unstable with timeshift.
for the curious on what timeshift is?
not sure if i am able to post links but here goes.
https://github.com/teejee2008/timeshift
if that failed for some reason then type
timeshift linux github.

I hope this helps someone.

I strongly suspect I am who you believe me to be mate, and (sorry for dragging this even further off topic), I don't use dem socials anymore. My phone number and email are still the same, and I did actually email you RE Linux accessibility a couple of weeks ago.

rodger that captin!
wish the ubuntu fokes would fix accessibility.
what does not help is that they may be switching installers to subiquity or something,
I don't know how bad that will bee for accessibility.
here is an article on this topic for the interested.

@3 that doesn't work. When i kill ubiquity everything breaks. The desktop disappears, orca starts being strange, etc. Is there another way?

2021-05-05 18:13:50

hey,
when I tryed it myself,
killing ubiquity would boot me strate in to the live environment.
what exactly happens?
what happens when you try launching the mate terminal?
I should think orca is being strange due to accessibility not being enabled, enable that from preferences and re log back in,
more details please?

Actually it worked. Even though the desktop wasn't there, there was only the top and bottom panels, i was able to install it via pressing alt f2 and typing ubiquity. Very strange. But i'm glad it worked out. Thanks.
Oh, and i'm on 21.04
