Hello,

What gamebooks are accessible for the blind on iOS? Also what is the difference between Timecrest and Lifeline series?

one of the best gamebooks things you can get is "choiceofgames" which is a very large app with dozens of titles now, though most of them cost a few bucks,, but they are definitely worth it.

Though I have mostly done older titles, "Bookrage's choiceofgame reviews" or something like that, (it is the only thread I know of that has my name in it) I have reviewed I think 15 titles at this point if you want to know what is good and what is not so good from the choiceofgames line.

There are also their companion apps "hosted games" and "heart's choice" which are 3rd-party hosted titles and romances respectively but I have not gotten into any of those so can't tell you anything about that.

There is also "Delight games" which is fun too but has a different style. In Choiceofgames you largely make your own character within the parameters of the game, and you almost always have the choice of man, woman, non-bianary and also get to choose your sexuality while you play preset,, though well-developed characters in Delight games and they too are quite fun.

Mythian adventures is pretty good too, but with that one, you play a continuous story that advances each month as well as some short shortstory sidequests that come out from time to time. So far the main story is in 7 books and I have played through them all. The first one is free but then you either buy the books as you play them or pay a I think $1 subscription fee per month that unlocks everything.

Is there any with music and sound effects?

Mythian adventures has a decent ambient soundtrack, and there are a few sound effects here and there on Delight games.

Is Mythian Adventures in the Appstore on iOS? I've never heard of it and wanted to try it, but I can't find it.

We are pleased, that you made it through the final challenge, where we pretended we were going to murder you. We are throwing a party in honor of your tremendous success. Place the device on the ground, then lay on your stomach with your arms at your sides. A party associate will arrive shortly to collect you for your party. Assume the party submission position or you will miss the party.

it is in the app store but maybe I'm spelling it wrong. It can be a little clumsy with voiceover but it is definitely playable, just a couple of the menus are a little weird.

Ah, got it. It's Mythion adventures. Google found it. smile

Okay, I've tried Mythion Adventures, at least the first part (the mine). Sadly, I don't think that's a kind of gamebook I'll like very much.
I like Choice of games for the many, many different choices and for how you can build up different relationships. On the other hand, I like delight Games for their gamy approach and for the almost puzzle-like goal of keeping your stats high. Sadly, judging by this first adventure, Mythion adventures has nothing of both worlds. The story seemed to be on rails, so much that it's almost  not a gamebook in my opinion, and it doesn't have any stats. That resulted in a ton of instant deaths, and most of those weren't even very obvious.
Small spoilers for adventure 1:
For example, there is a fight and you have two choices: 1. Shoot with crossbow or 2. use magic. But the funny thing is: Different party members do these things. Shoot with crossbow was the right answer here, because when you chose to cast a spell, the crossbow character, in his infinite wisdom, does nothing at all, just stands around and everybody dies. Why do they not simply both try their best?
Another example, this time of very unfortunate wording: You hear voices from a tunnel and you don't know who it is. The choices are 1. Hide and see who it is or 2. Take control of the situation. What? What control am I taking? How am I taking control? Turns out the whole party just storms into the tunnel and tries to kill whoever is talking here and guess what, the whole party dies.
Maybe the multiplayer aspect is what makes this fun, but I don't know.
@Bookrage, what did you think of the app?

Are there other gamebooks out there that we can play? I am looking for ones that have music and sound effects.
Also a series would be cool. What are everyone's thoughts on the Lonewolf gamebook series?

2021-03-09 23:06:42

Lone Wolf is very cool if you like old-school gamebooks. The adventurer sheet makes it really fun to handle stats, money and items. But there are no music or sound effects, at least not on Project Aon. So, if you really want music, this is not the right series.

What about this gamebook that I found on the iOS app store? Joe Dever's Lone Wolf.

I don't think the app versions are accessible, but correct me if I'm wrong.
