Hi. I recently came across light novels. I know about these because I've read on multiple occasions that animes are based on light novels.
The thing is that I don't really know how to start with these novels, especially because I have never read something like this or watched an anime.
People in my class were all about light novels. I asked them about this and they didn't really give me a straight answer because they said that I have to watch animes and read mangas in order to understand the concept of lns.
Is there a LN for "beginners", or should I just google around for "top light novels" and see what comes up?
Hope someone on here can tell me more about this and even recommend me something to read.
PS: The light novels have to be in English. Unfortuantely I don't understand any japanese...

One place which I can recommend is to check out baka-tsuki. I am currently reading a certain magical index there, though I don't think they have the entire novel there. all the novels there are translated to English, it is a community work, so you might have to be patient with the releases.

This for me, didn't present a problem, since the first part of the novel, called old testament, was animated and I watched it.

Unfortunately, nothing comes to mind when I think of a light novel for beginner.

It won't get shut down, since it is kind of like a wikipedia of sorts, where translators work on various lightnovels.

Hhpeople who say they need to read manga to understand light novels, don't know what they're saying.

I read for 3 years and never needed ..

a light novel is very different from a manga.

Also one thing to note that the novelupdates is not just for light novels, that site has the record of Chinese web novels, whether they have a translated or not, and where you can find the translation.

I even saw once there someone translating High School DXD as well.

In general, it is a great site to finding stuff to read, specially for Asian novels.
