Hey guys. I haven't gotten an answer to my question from the main topic of this game, so I decided to create a topic here in the hopes that more people could see it and could give me an answer.
So, I downloaded the game from Mason's website after finding out that his site won't be flagged again as containing malware. The download completed and I was excited to play ch again. But after extracting it, before I got the chance to launch the application, my av said this.

moved ch.exe to your Virus Chest because it was infected with Win64:Trojan-gen

And just like that, the exe file is no longer on the folder where I extracted the game. Now, here are my questions. Isn't it that this game is now built entirely on python, right? And if so, then why is my av flagging this? Is it safe to make an exclusion for this? Thanks for the answer guys, and have a good day. smile

It doesn't like the way pyinstaller bundles / embeds shit probably, just add an exclusion to the folder where it will be extracted to.

@2 so is this game safe?

2020-12-24 07:37:06

@Shiro: Yup, it sure is. Most antiviruses get in the way, so if you're alreay careful what you download, what links you click on, and have a browser like Brave that blocks cross-tracking, then turning that fucker off would be a good idea so it doesn't falsely flag anymore executables.

@4 Thanks. smile

All of this is to say: "As far as anyone knows it's safe". Personally, I'd trust my antivirus over a bunch of folks on the internet, even though I'm sure the dev hasn't shipped a virus to you.

I have code on GitHub

that's not true, I Used pyinstaller with many stuff and it's fine, Also ch is fine with me, So maybe it's something on your end,

shut that idiot up, i hate these anti viruses, lawyers, lawyers and lawyers. i tried to launch the blood drain and boom, it doesn't let me do that, so i installed it and everything works just fine.

or you can shoot them down temporarily, then real navel then.

2020-12-24 17:29:51

What AV are you using? Microsoft Defender doesn't flags Ch as a virus, at least on my end.

Well, it depends what you consider as safe.
If you take the game on it's on, yeah, it probably doesn't have any malitious code or is giving you a virus, so I'd call it safe.
If you take into account the procedure of creating an excluded folder for such games, no, it's not safe anymore.

Do you think a developer release a game which contains a virus?

Best regards SLJ.

fine, You could do that, However, Don't come on crying munths later that your windows started acting weirdly/you had a virus/your windows doesn't turn on, That's the really way to get real virus stuff going on, I remember i excluded the whole windows, C: drive, And i got like 95 viruses, And, No, File was launching, I remember even python doesn't launche, bgt was getting files deleted, And auto it was acting strange with errors, That was at like 2019, And at that time, I really needed to format because well, The system was really fucked up, So if you want something like that to happen to you, Or something even bigger like the windows not even launching, Go ahead, But at your own risk
also, Am starting to think that bgt does indeed has a virus, Because after i moved away from it, Seriously windows didn't ever flag something that didn't indeed contain a virus, Except bgt which i even think, That it does have a virus indeed.

Hi @12. Uhm... I didn't say he did put a virus in there. I was just confirming that it was safe for me to run it and make an exclusion for it's folder alone. I'm sorry if I sounded like I'm accusing the dev of such thing. smile

@10 sadly, I'm stuck with avast. sad

man, listen, if you got common sense, and you know what the heck are you doing? then these applications throw them out, they are annoying to me, they make the system too slow for me to even react.

2020-12-24 20:45:48

I don't like antiviruses and don't use them. It's annoying to me that defender even exists, so no, I don't trust them.

Avast is your problem here. That thing would flag the task manager as a virus if it could.

To be honest, its this bundling which can be suspect, god knows its been used.
Bgt stuff is a virus because bgt bundles itself to run the game.
The code is fine, the bgt itself is fine but all the inbedded functions and how they are run well that is not always known.
Python, who knows but even nvda got flagged once.
A lot of our virus scanners are machine learned, so ai.
That ai tries its damndest to get it right, but its not perfect.
Sadly the way a lot of the software we use and games handle things use vectors similar to web attacks and the like.
Mozilla has tried to do away with this stuff by making people have to redo everything with a new access framework, but thats why I have an older version of waterfox which doesn't use any modified stuff and I have older but still secure addons.
I have excluded a bunch of things mostly bgt.
I have a duel drive system though so a lot of my portable apps and data is on that second drive.

That drive is not my os drive, and I don't have it included in any scans.
This aparently happens on normal stuff to but who knows.

2020-12-24 23:22:30

@15 ok, Some stuff maybe fake, But by following your way of doing this you are giving your self big, Big risks, Who knows what will happen if i didn't enable my windows defender when i were working with tunmi on dropbox for sxt, That time both of us may had that virus thing problem...

2020-12-24 23:31:49

why do you use avast if you can do windows defender, use microsoft security osenchels if you are on windows 7, use windows defender on anything above that, and destroy your computer if you are useing anything under windows7
