My work laptop has 32GB of RAM, I wish it had 64. My home laptop has 32GB, and it's mostly fine, except for rare occasions. I would personally never go to 16GB, but it really depends on what you are doing.
For the anecdote, when I was interning at Ubisoft working on Assassin's Creed Odyssey, I had to compare two binary files and diff them. The files were map files of the game, the file I used was 24GB. To diff them, the easiest way was to load both of them in memory. I remember the first time I launched the tool I was making that was diffing the two and creating a patch, I was just staring at my RAM in Task manager. I had 64GB of RAM. I saw it spike to 30GB, 40GB, 50GB... 55GB... 59GB, I was getting nervous, I was like "do it! you can do it! I don't want to rewrite this to stream the content!".
It stayed at 59GB for a while, processed the diff, the patch, dumped it and memory went back down to ~15-20GB range and I've never been so happy in my life (don't tell my girlfriend).
My dream laptop specs would be 64GB of RAM, a very strong CPU, like i9 clocked really high, 2TB SSD and the cheapest graphics card ever (okay, maybe not, but just like a 1060 or something). Even better would be no display. That way I would be spending my money for what I really need.
Are you running those 2 memory ram sticks on proper 3200 MHZ? check it in CPUZ.
my ram is on 3200 mhz
@Origine In fairness, I think even 16 GB does fine in 99% of situations for the average untidy person, and while I'd love to have a computer as good as that, it wouldn't make much difference to me, plus, it wouldn't be very portable, which is a priority for the foreseeable future.
i guess 16 gb is ok enough
It really depend on the use. For me, it wouldn't be.
I have 16 GB and it's fine for everything I do. If I wanted to run more than one VM or something, I could upgrade to 32.
aah ok, thanks
and i thought that 16 gb is the best ram on earth, i was so, so'o'o'o'o'o rong
@Subdragon, Absolutely not. Some work stations rendering 3d models need upwards of 64 GB just to open and render and all that fancy schmancy stuff.
