Hello. Writing in for a friend who is having an odd issue. At times, while utilizing NVDA on this brand of laptop, NVDA just freezes and refuses to speak. it needs to be reset when it happens with the short cut. I'm trying to figure out what might be resulting in this, and thought someone here might know what might be up before I go to the NVAccess list.

Will yank up the HP model in a bit when he replies to a text. the only unwise thing he has on his computer is Macafe or whatever it is called. Now, my misadventures with some other virus and malware scanners used to ravage NVDA. I'll see if anything might contribute to the cause of the weird freezes. the rest of the computer works fine.

At least it is not every 5 minutes. Just a random event every hour or two.

its because of an add-on called objsounds, if he have it, he should remove or disable it, I was having this issue but when I removed this add-on everything worked well

He should remove mcafee, it's just unnecessary software. If the issue still doesn't go away he should reset windows

@Meatbag, If you think OBJSounds is bad, AudioThemes3d is worse! Seriously, OBJSounds has ran flawlessly on all of my machines, even on Windows 10 with 4GB RAM!
@OP, what are the general specs of your computer?

@4 well, 3d is working very good, objsounds is also working very good but it was doing such thing like what @1 sed from time to time

NVDA can freeze because of basically any software on the machine that might be catching NVDA's attention, then freezing itself. If you don't have the expertise to find it on your own I'd just reset Windows and uninstall anything extra the OEM provided.

@camlorn, Why is NVDA affected so much? I've heard JAWS isn't, is that true?

After a bit more fiddling around, and noticing the issue vanishing, i asked my friend what he was up to when it happens.

Apparently he was reading through a document that was stuck in protected view on microsoft Word. Whenever that was being read or open, NVDA would eventually stop and freeze. He had been finished with the document later on and hasn't seen the issue. When the document was opened again and he used the computer for a bit more. Poof. Another protected document was open and the same happened after a bit of time.

Actually, i wonder why I hadn't thought of that considering I know he was reading something in PV. I've had a pain in the butt whenever stuff comes in PV to even more painful degrees. Frankly it's an improvement NVDA doesn't crash when opening the PV docs. Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions and we'll see if this continues to work.
