Hi All.
In 2016 I released Tube Sim, a simulation of the London Underground train system where you get to drive the tube.
Today, June 15th, 2020, I’m pleased to let you know I’ve released an update to Tube Sim.
In game audio is now available in French and significant updates to the code have been made to allow the possibility of supporting more languages in the future.
The update also contains a number of bug fixes and minor updates for all languages including:
removing a number of leading silences in audio files.
reducing the possibility of large speed reductions.
improving the carriage temperature system to avoid implausible values.
, improving a number of sounds and rerecording some prompts.
Reducing the sound of outside ambience events when near a platform.
Option in the main menu to select language.
Option in the main menu to switch on and off unit announcements during game play.
Improved intelligence of passenger boarding and disembarking code.

Nice work Nick!  Thanks!
Just a quick question, will the user created soundpacks still be compatible with this version?

2020-06-15 04:05:28

hi. what's the enable unit announcements for in the mainmenu? thanks

2020-06-15 07:14:16

finally! gonna get it!

2020-06-15 09:29:47

Hi All.
#3. Hi defender. Yep existing sound packs will work fine with the new version.
#4. Hi mike-tan. When you turn unit announcements on then when your driving units, such as kilometres per hour, percent and degrees will be spoken. It’s probably more helpful for new players.

Thanks.
Nick.

Hi nick I know that this game usues voices but I think that you should add a screen reader or sapi support.
Operating this game can be much faster and it will be much easier for translation.
I am not thinking about annoucements but I am thinking about basic operations like menus. Sapi can be really usefull when you reading status during drive.
The same thinks have been done in tdv, we can select screen reader instet of samples and operating a plane is much faster.

2020-06-15 12:24:09

It's easy enough to make recorded TTS  samples though right?

2020-06-15 12:54:37

Hi.
I would agree that TTS would make things quicker and easier to translate, however, personally I feel that having real voices for a game increases the engagement and user enjoyment.
I listen to A TTS all day at work, for me, if I’m playing then I would prefer a real voice. Particularly if interacting with what is meant to be a real person.
So, for example, the train systems could be TTS but the radio real recordings, this would be halfway in the middle.

However, In Park Boss, which does have a mix of TTS and recorded voices, I found the TTS to limiting in terms of how I wanted to portray the game. Stylistically I’d like the user to get really immersed into the game, and TTS voices just break the paradigm in my mind.

Not using TTS in Tube Sim was a conscious decision, and one I still feel is write for what I’m trying to achieve with my games.

Doing a recording of TTS and using it like a real voice then gives you the worst mix. You’ve got all the limitations of TTS voices in terms of acting, but none of the benefits such as user preference with regards voice settings like rate.

Just my thoughts.
Nick.

Hi Nick!

Wow, that are great news. I like your games much, especially Tube Sim and Park Boss. It's great that they are still in development.

I am quite thrilled to try out the new version, there were some strange bugs in V1.0, let's find out how many of them you have fixed. :-)

By the way: If you are planning to release a german translation of the game I would be happy to help with the translation. Supporting free audio games is something of which we all Profit a lot.

Regards from Daniel!

Hello, the french version seems to have two tutorial bugs. The head lines are still in English, and the warehouse level doesn't start.
Oh! I almost forgot. I'm the french voice of that subway instructor!

I usualy speak french, so please excuse all my english mistakes. Thanks!

Potentially silly noob question incoming: I downloaded what I assume is the latest version of Tube Sim yesterday, the portable version. I tried completing the tutorial, but got stuck very quickly, at the first driving part. Apparently, the air pressure has to be above 50 for the dead man switch to work. But regardless of what I do, be it opening the doors and closing them again, enabling ventilation, disabling it, etc. mine is steady at 0.

Is this a bug? Or am I doing something very stupid?

Yes, I definitely left the forum. Mhm. Why would you have any doubt?

@mayana: have you press enter on the air pressure?

2020-06-17 10:02:15

@JasonBlaze I ... did not. I assumed it was just there to report the pressure, just a status item like speed. I feel stupid now. Thank you.

Hi, Nick.
TubeSim was and continues to be a neat audiogame. Great challenge, great learning curve, great sound design and very nice controls. Only one question: How do I go back to main menu from inside the game? Pressing Escape calls to review last 10 messages, and the game window won't respond even to Control+F4. Sometimes, for example, I miss a station for a couple meters and then I really want to start it over in order to try a perfect run, right now I'm having to end application through task manager.

Thanks and congratulations.

2020-06-19 09:00:22

Hi @19: Press F7 and request to be relieved at the next station. As you open the door at the next station, the run is over and you are back in main menu.
Greetings
Rico

Yes, I know, but sometimes the next station is like a couple minutes away and I just need to stop playing now. It would be nice to be able to at least close the application with control+F4.

2020-06-20 08:43:47

@vcaparica well, you can close it immediately. Press control+shift+escape to activate the task manager, and kill the Tube Sim process. Of course, your mission progress will not be saved that way.

So are used to play tubes him a lot. I very recently got a Windows 10 machine and decided to download tubes him on that. It seems though, that Windows defender is blocking the program from running the executable file with the standalone installer in the portable version. As well. In the past with my windows eight machine, I think I got around us by running the program as an administrator. How do I do that on a Windows 10 machine? What other steps should I try? I’m just getting used to windows 10 so any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Most BGT games are false positives marked by Windows Defender as viruses, so you should add an exception to the location where the game executable is located in case you do not wish to switch your AV program.

Thank you very much. That has been figured out and the game is now working smoothly. I do have another question however, I downloaded one of the sound packs and tried replacing the files in the sound folder with the ones from the soundtrack. It didn’t seem to work. Then I tried extracting sounds in the sound pack folder and then doing the same thing replacing them in the sound folder of the game that didn’t seem to work either. I can play the game well enough without the seven pack and I am still loving the game a lot and I missing a step somewhere?
