And as everyone probably expected, here is another monthly chat topic in which you may chat about months. Note only months! so no talking about weeks or days or years here!
Though I suppose we can talk about other stuff, like life, and what your doing and films and games and general things, just no talking about days! none at all!
Well today (hay I can break my own rules), things are mildly stressful because Mrs. Dark is really not well. This made yesterday's concert in a local church a bit of a trial, though admitedly part of that was because the concert was quite a disaster with half of the people singing unaccompanied because their music teach didn't bother to show up and they couldn't possibly use backing tracks, plus the sound man had problems in balance because some silly arse monkeyed with his mixer.
Still, whilst one of my lady's songs didn't go expected, her feed the birds worked out well enough, albeit less good than usual. Plus I got to sing the dig song from Pocahontas, even if the balance on the mike vs my backing wasn't what it could be.
Actually I rather like the dig song, its awesome Disney wrote a villain song for a tenor, and its so fantastically greedy!
Sadly the concert program also got buggered up so I wasn't able to sing the two other things i planned, but as it was the dig song I really fancied that was good enough.
I really need to fix my usb mike and look at actually doing some recordings. I had no luck with it last time, but maybe I can get some assistance. My lady also suggested re purposing some disney songs as youtube recordings, though since I've not got into the voice recording bit that might take a bit of doing, albeit it might be fun to do.
We also spent most of Yesterday putting up an awesome new bed, which was actually less of a torment than planned, even having to hoik everything up our stairs, though unfortunately having to pay for a new bed ontop of paying for my lady's blasted visa means we're pretty skint at the moment. its a shame, its our wedding anniversary on third of July, and I'd really like to go to a nice restaurant but that might nnot be happening. I was also considering treating myself to the new medevial dynasty game for Ios and/or code 7, and/or the crypt shyfter gamebook collection from Itch.io, but again whether these will happen is relatively doubtful at the second.
We're also continuing with harry Potter, in between my lady not exactly feeling great. I really do wonder if Rowling herself was not feeling great during Halfblood prince. People say Order of the phoenix is the brattiest book, but honestly between harry's Malfoy obsession and Ron and Hermione's constant bickering and teenaged romantic hassles, its really the most irritating characterisation in the series. Even Hagrid seems off here, and with Umbridge out of the picture everything feels a bit too petty to say there's essentially a wizard Nazi party gaining power.
Of course, the end of halfblood prince is very explosive, and leads into Deathly hallows which is one long climax, so things should pick up.
Also, I've been reading some Kate Wilhelm short stories which are fantastically disturbing! actually, she's more known as a legal and sf writer, but her sort of surreal horror type stuff is surprisingly good, albeit being published in the mid seventies its a wee bit dated in terms of society and technology, still like the best kinds of fiction you just overlook that sort of thing when the writing is good enough.
Speaking of writing, that is the one thing that is! actually going well. I'm finding getting a regular routine for writing and trying 500 words a works out pretty well, indeed I've started making that my priority each morning which is a good way to get serious work done.
I'm just hoping that there will be something I can do with my writing when I'm done with it, but we'll see.
Hope everyone else is having a good July so far.
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)
