Well, if the screen is turned off, then the optical character recognition will not work, simply because the screen is blank.
OCR means it is running a recognition of the actual picture on the screen, and transcribe it into readable text. Therefore, if you turn off the screen, there is simply no picture to recognise.
Just to clarify: Have you got the OCR to work?
