Hi all.
Are you tired of constantly getting a message telling a server for an online game is unavailable? Do you want a stable server which just works? Then keep reading...
As some of you know, I've started to experiment with servers pretty seriously. I'm working on a lot of projects which have nothing to do with gaming, but I need a server for those projects. So, while having a server anyway, I'll try to offer the following two services related to gaming:
1: The free service. In the free service, I'll offer to host as many servers for online gaming as possible. You know Road to rage, Sound RTS and other games. Please let me know if you are interested and tell me what games you want a stable server for, and I'll do my best to set it up.
2: The payed service, mostly target at the developers but other people as well, depending on your feedback.
Have you developed an awesome game and do you need a server for it? Do you find Linux servers too complicated to set up, or do you just need a server which works, while concentrating on your game instead the server? Then I offer to host your server for 5 dollars each month. You can get a user on my server if needed so you can manage your own server and files etc, but I need to do a lot of security stuff if this is your interest.
So to make this clear: The payed service is for you who need the following: Someone to take care of the server, or if you need an account on a server which is set up ready to use. The only thing you need to do is to copy your files to the server and run the server.
So, what about the hostname? Feel free to use my hostname. If you wanna use your own host, that is, if you have your own website, this can be set up so your host redirects to my host. No problem. More on that privately if you're interested.
Why should I pay 5 dollars for this service, when I can get my own server for the same price? Well, if you set up your own server, you need to set it up from scratch. You need to create the users you need, set up your host, deal with security, keep the server updated etc. All that requires you know how to use Linux. If you know how to do all that or if you're willing to learn it, then the service is not for you. This is just to see if there is the need for such a service, to see if there are people out there, who just need a working server without the need to learn Linux or the need for taking care about the server.
For the payed service, I'll offer multiple ways of getting in contact with me quickly. You know, if a service is payed, support is one of the most important things. I have set up a system which I can access even from my phone, which means I'll be able to control the server while traveling by train which I do a lot for my job. That means quick support.
Regarding payment:
I accept Paypal.
You'll get the first month for free. That is to see if you like the service. To make it fair for everyone, this free month starts from the moment where we both agree that everything works as expected. I'm very new regarding to Linux and servers in generel, and paying for stuff which don't work as expected, either because I've messed something up or because of other things is just a bad experience.
Why am I offering all this?
I want to learn to use Linux and learn a lot about servers as well, so I'm offering this, hopefully for peoples enjoyment, but also to learn a lot from all the experiences.
Because I'm very new to Linux, I can't guarantee a professionel service, but I'll do my very best to meet peoples requirements and fix the problems as good as possible.
Do you have any requests on other things I could offer? Something you need which I haven't thought about? If there is any server for a game you want me to host, then please let me know.
I look forward to see what kind of feedback you might have on all this...
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.
