Hi all.

Would you like to help translating Undead Assault into your language? Now, you have the chance. big_smile
Why translating the game into as many languages as possible?
There are many people around the world who don’t speak english, or don’t speak the language very well. there are not many audio games, which has been translated into a lot of languages. if they are, the translations are not officially, which means you can’t download the game from the official website in other languages than english, and fully enjoy them if you don’t speak english.
We will try to change that in the Undead Assault project. We wanna make the game available and enjoyable for as many people as possible no matter what language they speak, and we will brake down the very known language barriers, which often limites a lot of people to enjoy games, if they don’t speak english.
So therefore, we are sharing the template file to the public, hoping that people wanna help us translate the game into as many languages as possible.

What you need.

1: You need a program called PO Edit. You can download it from the following link:
Download the latest version of PO Edit for Windows
2: You need an Dropbox account, and you need to be invited into the official translation folder.

To make everything much more simpel, everything you need is in the Dropbox folder. Instructions, the required files etc.

Please post your mail address here in the topic, and you'll be invited as soon as possible. Please note that only one translator for each language is required, so therefore, please write what language you wanna translate when you post your mail address to be invited. You can read more on why I have made this rule in the rules section.

The rules

Here are some very strait forward rules for the translation folder. The rules should be easy to follow and understand. If there is something regarding the rules you don’t understand, then please contact me for clarifications.

1: Never change, delete or update things which others have worked on without their permission to do so. If you do that, you’ll be kicked out of the folder without any warning.

2: Try to follow the already written instructions on how to update the translation files. If you choose not  to follow those instructions, then you are responsible for making the translation at 100% out from the newest template file. If you don’t follow the instructions, you are also responsible to keep all the strings intact, and if you mess this up, Manuel and I have the right to not include the updated translation into the game, simply because it will not work if things are messed up.

3: When updating the translation, then please try your best to keep the filenames intact, which will make it easier for us all to see when the translation has been updated.

4: This is of course okay to work together with more people on the same language. Only one person is allowed to be registered to this folder for each language. This rule is to avoid people working on multiple versions of translation in the same language, without working together. It is only me, SLJ who owns this folder who invites people into the folder. If you invite any people, you’ll both be kicked out of the folder, and you’ll be out of the translation team.

Language channels.

In Undead Assault, there are multiple language channels, used for text chatting between the players. That means people who don’t speak english, or people who want to talk to people in other languages can do so, of course on the right channel which fits to the language.
Here is an example on how to change the language channel:
1: Open up the chat console by pressing the slash key.
2: Type in an extra slash sign, then type for example lang spanish to switch to the spanish chat, and then press enter. It looks like this: /lang spanish.
Please note, very important: When using different keyboard layouts, the slash sign is written differently depending on what keyboard you are using. This can lead into a lot of confusion for people who don’t know the english keyboard layout. Therefore, I hope you’ll help me expand the following list in the different languages on how to open up the chat console, type in the slash sign on the keyboard layout for the specific language and switch from the english channel to the other language. If we get this translated, we can send this small guide to people in their own language who are trying to switch to an other chat language, but don’t understand what we are saying because they don’t speak english.
Here is an example from the danish keyboard layout to demonstrate how important this is to know how it works on the keyboard layout you are using:
1: Open up the chat console by pressing the dash key to the left of the right shift key.
2: Press shift 7 to write an extra slash sign, and then type lang english and then press enter.
Here is the text in english, ready to be edited and translated into your language and to your keyboard layout:
How to switch to the english chat using the english keyboard layout:
1: Open up the chat console by pressing the slash key, the key to the left of the right shift key.
2: Type an extra slash and then type lang english and then press enter.
Please post your translation or send it to me privately so I can include this below.

If you have any questions, issues or comments, then feel free to either post in this topic, or contact me privately. I speak english and danish.

I feel great that the game can be translated into all languages.
Very few audiogames support multiple languages. Top speed, sound rts and Playroom They are among the few examples we have in the audiogaming community.
greetings and thanks.

sorry my english, is not my native language.

Greetings.
In my opinion, this is an awsome idea, I think many people dreaming about it, cause not all can speak, and understand english well, eg me. big_smile   So, I'm glad that this game has been translated on some languages already, and there will be more!  Also, I think that our team already done with russian translation, so, hope it'll be good enough.  Have a good time all.

Sincerely yours... Lucy.

Wow, guys. You are amazing! Both the Romanian and Italian translations has been added. big_smile
@ambro86: No worries, I could save the file without any issues, and I got what I needed.
Guys, I am so excited. Wow... This translation project has only been public for like 12 hours, and you are translating like crazy. Hahaha. big_smile YOu are all fantastic, and I'm sure that'll make an extremely big difference for a lot of people around the whole world.
I'll talk to Manuel regarding how to test your own translation, or maybe he'll reply here in the topic before I have the chance to talk to him. I'm currently not sure what possibilities there are to test things before the release.

Best regards SLJ.

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately it is not possible to add new translations without a code modification in the game, that's the reason why you can't just paste the needed files when needed and start the game for viewing the new language. I'll check the document for sintax error or something like that, and I'll try that the translation works (because sometimes it can be broken and the game wouldn't start at all). Once I am sure that it starts, I could send to the translators a copy of the game for testing purposes. Also I'll try to add comments to some strings in the template, so you will be able to see these in the comments section at poedit.

@wightfall:
Thank you very much for your translation file. There is something wrong with the file. It seems as you haven't chosen the thai language in the preferences of PO Edit. So the program can't compile the file. I don't know if I can fix that on my own. If you can't fix that, I'll take a look at it later on to see if I can do anything.

@Biti:
Thank you very much for your translation files. Awesome job.
Something is messed up. There are 117 strings in your file and there are only 112 strings which needs to be translated. There are 5 strings where the danish strings sonehow has been included in your file. I'm not sure if I can fix that without braking the file.

Hi all.
So I see that some of you got some erroes while trying to compile the original file If you have any clue on what's going on and what this error is about, then I would like to hear about it. I don't get any errors when translating from the original file, so I have no idea on what's going on.

Guys: Are you following the instructions both in the first post but also in the readme on how to make the translations? I'm not blaming or complaining, but just asking. I'm trying to figure out what causes those weird issues.
@Wightfall: Why don't you use PO edit so you don't brake things? Any reasons for not using PO Edit?

Hello everyone, some tips for translations, useful if you are starting a new one:

When you have the pot file in your downloads folder or something like that, you don't need to change its extension to .po and start with that file. This file is a translation template, not a catalog. For the gettext's perspective, a template is different than a catalog and you not should use these in the same way. You can do it, but it may contain errors later.

Open poedit from the start menu, go to  the file menu in the menu bar and press in new, or press Control N. You will see a dialogue where you have to choose the language for the translation. Then press OK. Then press Tab and you will heard something like "Update from a POT file" or something like that. Press enter there, and look for  the pot file that you have downloaded and press enter there. it will create a new translation catalog, and you will be able to start the job.

Hello.
I've done a brazilian portuguese translation of Undead Assault.
However, I think I'll not be hable to update it frequently.
At the moment it is at 100% state, so if someone wants to help keep
it updated with me it will be great.

Here is the link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjxm18cehaos519/cod.zip?dl=0

Let me know in case it gives an error or if I used an outdated file so
I can translate the new strings.

Hi all.
Thanks to Manuel, I noticed that I didn't know enough about how this translation system. I didn't know there was such a huge difference between the .po file and the .pot file.
I noticed that the readme I linked to in the first post properly wasn't good enough, since some people have done the translation wrong, which properly was because the instructions wasn't clear enough.
So, I took the time to update the first post with a, hopefully, more understandable instructions to make it more clear on how to translate the strings.
Thanks a ton to Manuel for being awesome, and help me figuring out what causes those issues people are having. I'm really sorry if the new instructions result in some of you to start from scratch again, and I'm sorry for not having given out very clear instructions at the beginning.
I hope you enjoy the new instructions.
