You're quite right, actually. Hook Fiends I believe they're called.

Ah.

As for me, I've just restarted my character Charisma, probably more out of

boredom than anything else. I'd been trying to build my Archery skill up to

at least level 40 so I could successfully complete Lists of Talwarden, one

of the new adventures in Trithik, but when enemies only give one EXP each I

realized it was gonna take years. Besides, I wasn't entirely satisfied with

the way I'd leveled up my magics. Hopefully this time I'll spend my EXP a

bit more wisely. I think getting the Axe of Bramble was a waste of time to

be honest. I already had the Hale Blade and the EXP I spent leveling

Telekinesis up to the necessary level to retrieve that axe could have

allowed me to level up my Archery skill, 'course I didn't know then that

there was going to be an Archery tournament in Trithik.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-08 22:44:52

So it is thee, Paladin! good luck with restarting Charisma,

personally I'm too attached to my charactor, Ekitrina, to restart her, but

then again, she's got an archery of 42 at the moment, so a bit of concerted

grinding should be enough to raise it to 50 and complete the lists.

As

I've never got telecanesis, I've never been able to have a crack at the

brambles axe, but sinse the hale blade is etter, and sinse tallys' offers

much better stuff even than that, I don't feel it's a big loss.

Yes

Dark, 'tis I. However after some consideration I made the painful decision

to retire Charisma in favor of a warrioress, Keaira, whom I plan on

instructing in certain of the magical arts as well as the noble skill of

Archery. I have an idea that might enable me to emerge victorious against

Illiok the Brave in Graldok without having to slay him, but it would require

great skill in the art of Divination. Also thanks to a little tip from Jade

that I only recently had the nerve to test, I've found that the Seven

Knights' quest can be accomplished with a minimum of Rune of Life loss and

even a relatively small number of deaths.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-11 22:15:18

If my memory serves me correct, the seven nights was Ekitrina's

first major quest after the few small ones in hawklor village.
Ekitrina

was my third attempted charactor at that point, so I had an idea of how the

system was working.

Can you kill Iliok? Unfortunately I hadn't

discovered the wonders of Distruction at that point so got soundly beaten by

him, I just hope there's another chance at him later.

Btw, what do you

think to the Random encounters thing?
I like, but I haven't had much time

sinse I've been working on the guide for Srythfaqs.com (which I could post

here as well), and also watching a lot of Star trek Next gen.

2006-01-12 07:35:19

I've made some good EXP in those new random encounters, so it's fair to

say I like 'em.
As for killing Illiok, right now the only way to do it

is with either Elementalism or Destruction at level 30 or higher. However

the reward, aside from moocho EXP, isn't really great. I was kinda hoping

he'd have another Merzekk gem. I'd like to find out what happens if you

manage to subdue him, but that would require either a higher Melee Rating

than it is possible to get at this point without loads of EXP and Adventurer

Tokens, or incredible skill in Divination. Divination lowers your

opponent's MR for several rounds and, if you're skilled enough at it

perhaps it can enable you to subdue Illiok. Right now Keaira has an MR of 63

and Stamina of 70+, but no Nevernal Reserve despite having high enough

stats. She's 30 in both weaponry and slashing, 60! in archery (that's how

I beat Talwarden), and 50 in arcana. I'd hoped that her skill in arcana

would enable her to decipher the tattered scroll I got from Stoneback Hill

since the manual says a person skilled in Arcana can decipher magical texts,

but nope. Means I wasted all that EXP. The good news is that I'm not in the

situation I ended up in with Charisma where I had no EXP left after leveling

up my skills. Actually I'm doing pretty good if I say so myself despite

having no magic at this point.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-12 10:33:24

Well

I just made a discovery that I thought I'd share. Jade, remember how you

said there was no point killing the dragon unless you could get a decent

price for the emeralds? Well, you might try having them in your inventory

next time you go see Thane Pyrond...

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-12 15:16:16

Once again, I hadn't discovered the wonders of distruction when I

got a crack at the Dragon. I did rob it and get the emeralds though so I'll

give the thing with the thane a go, thanks Brian, or Paladin or whichever

you prefer.
btw, If I remember rightly the tattered Scroll gives you a

random power, just use it in a safe location.

2006-01-12 20:38:10

My

character, Sharvyn, has MR of 72 and SP of 96. The new random encounter

thing is neat but doesn't seem all that special.
BTW: you do NOT need

destruction or elementalism or divination to beat Iliok the Brave. I did it

with the Hale Blade when my MR was 64 and my SP was 80. Used three blessings

and got lucky as hell, mind ya, but it is possible. I couldn't subdue  him

though. When I killed him, the guards in Graldok just asked me what I

thought I was doing and kinda let me go in order to keep the peace. Nothing

fancy. No gems from the sword of Merzig or whatever.
I did indeed sell

those emeralds to Pyrund, but the annoying thing is that I don't have

diplomacy on Sharvyn and haven't had an opportunity to learn it yet...so I

couldn't raise him up from 1000 gold. That's alright though, I've got

over 10k gold now.

2006-01-12 21:15:44

Yeah

I've killed Illiok before. That's why I want to find out if anything

happens when you subdue him. Think if we ever get more opportunities to get

Adventurer Tokens I'll buy the Dragonbane Longsword or Onixian Demonblade

and the Spirited Defender and see if an Mr of 80+ might make a difference.

And Dark, the scroll apparently doesn't work if a character has no Nevernal

reserve. I tried. Even being an Expert at Arcana didn't help, so I'm

guessing it's pretty much useless unless there is a way to acquire Nevernal

energy. And no the Grey Circle doesn't either. They just tell me to come

back when I'm ready.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-12 22:01:24

Yep, i suppose the scroll must only be for charactors who can do

magic, sorry about that.
I haven't done the thing with Pyrund yet, but if

it's just gold you get I'll probably just keep the gems, I always have

more gold than a know what to do with.
as reguards adventurer tocans, I

mailed the Gm just after tally's was set up but before the refund thing

appeared. He said that there would be more oppertunities to get tocans than

just the Pg.
my guess is that the next major adventure will have tocans as

a reward. Judging by the 512 xp I got for the beast of Ironfang, I'm

guessing he's upping Xp rewards from adventures too, sinse the beast was

quite a small scenario.

2006-01-27 07:27:16

Ha! I did it! After many attempts I finally managed to subdue and utterly humiliate Illiok the Brave! I did it with an MR of 61, the Wither Blade (which is a new weapon found in the latest adventure), and a tremendous slice of good luck. While the EXP reward wasn't the best it wasn't bad either. I can't say no to 88 EXP, especially since regular critters only give one, perhaps 2 points if you're lucky. The scene after the fight was kinda cool too. It wasn't much but it was still an accomplishment. I could be mistaken, but from what I hear I'm the first person ever to manage to do that, or at the very least, the first in a long time.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-29 01:08:57

Hey guys, it's me, MacFarlane.

I  finally made it to the third level of Z Zaralg's cave in Shadowedge.  But after I kill his two stone slayer guards, he keepss conjuring up burning Bladesmen to fight against me.
Is there a way to avoid the blademen and go mano e mano with Zaralg?

  Holden

2006-01-29 01:26:27

Nope. You just have to fight your way through them and hope you have enough health when you face Zaralg. If your MR is high enough he's really not all that hard. I beat him with an MR of 62, possibly even less than that. I forget what level my skills were at but I had the Hale Blade. Just in case though I'd keep several Blessings on hand. I don't remember if Zaralg has any special attacks but I know the Bladesmen do.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-01-29 11:00:14

Whoopee! I got the Hail Blade,  finished off Zaralg, and many other great feats. Now I'm retrying the Murk adventure. Ethulle's made the bronze disk. Now about this weapon? How do I get it? I know Ethulle told me to go East, but it doens't work.
  So what do I do?

  Holden

2006-01-29 20:38:28

Congrats on the Hale Blade, personally I thought Zeralc was rather pathetic to say he had the huge introduction.

right then, the Mirk.

from the entrance to the Mirk head South three times, then East, then south, then east twice, then north, then east about 15 times until you get to a clearing with three trees, place the disk in the hollow on the tree trunks (you have to do all the trees several times, just keep trying), and the weapon will appear.
then you'll need to find Tepthog's temple which is a rather complex route, but you should start by going west from the clearing then heading north and following the path.

It's quite a pest to find, but once your there, remember that you'll need to use the drop down "Use an item" menue in battle to activate the power of the weapon.

Hope this helps and that I haven't given away too many spoilers.

2006-01-29 23:59:02

So in the Murk, all I do when I get the bronze disk is keep fitting it into the trees? There's no certain pattern or number of times I have to do it with each tree??

  Holden

2006-01-30 01:27:58

Well if I remember rightly (it is about six months sinse I did the Mirk), I put the disk in the left tree, then the midle, right then middle, but other people said they used different patterns. either it's random or it's such an easy pattern (like all three trees in any order), that everyone's just guessed it.

My guess is that it's random, sinse all the other pattern puzles I've seen in Sryth had some kind of clue to them (though non were really all that hard).

Just try and see.

2006-01-31 07:56:40

Right, OK, Daggerspire. I, for some reason, don't get it.
I can't find all the stone faces. I know that the dials on the stone chest must be set to 1 and 3 for the moon and mountain, but what next?
  Can someone please tell me?

  Holden

2006-01-31 10:48:05

Another random one. If you explore each floor above floor 1 you'll find a stone face that tells you something. You're bound to find it after some looking, but those passages are kinda twisty and such.

If my memory serves me correctly there's a face on flaw one as well, it's just hidden right to the side.
as to all the locations of the faces, there's a thread on the Sryth.com forum itself that might be handy. Also, if high visibility maps are okay for you, there's one of Daggerspire at:
http://www.srythfaqs.com/pages/1/index.htm

though at the moment I'm afraid nobody has written any text directions for Daggerspire. Maybe you could write them as you go through it then send them along to be posted on the Srythfaqs site? It's stil under construction at the moment but we hope one day it'll be a complete encyclopedia of all things Srythian.

Well there's my plug for today, sorry about that.

Hey guys":

First of all, just wanted to let everyone know that I completed Daggerspire, finally. Now trhere are only two adventures I haven't gone on--The Secret of Stoneback Hill and The Old Cathredal. Does anyone want to give me any tips on these?
Can anyone tell me why  the magic staff I got in the Murk disappeared? After I got back to Stormfield, and was doing my customary check over what I had left and what was gone, I noticed it was gone. I lliked that weapon a lot, and worked real damn hard trying to get it, then it had to disappear on me.Is everyone looking forward to the Proving Grounds 2?

  Holden

2006-02-06 01:00:19

Without meaning to sound rude, you obviously didn't pay attention to the scene after you use the staff to seal the portal. If you'll remember, Ethulle takes the staff from you and turns it into a snake. Apparently the staff was actually the true spirit of the swamp, though in a form other than its own. As for the Old Cathedral, there are four specific monsters on the first level that must be killed in order to proceed down the stairs. As far as I recall they are: Skeletal Acolites, Skeletal Archpriest, Skeletal High Priest and Four Skeletal Priests. (Spoiler) It's important to read the text after each battle so that you know when you've killed one of the four guardians. After killing each one you'll hear the distant sound of stone grating on stone.
Stoneback Hill is just a matter of trying to remember where you have and haven't gone. Collect the four stone cubes (having all four nets you a better EXP reward), and watch out for the monsters, some of which can be quite tough. I will give you a hint about the riddle you're asked. There's a link in there that opens one of those history sections. Clicking on it just might help you out.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

2006-02-06 04:56:44

Yes, I paid attention to the paragraph after sealing the portal. I just happened to forget that Ethule took the staff. I managed to complete the old cathedral.
I know about the riddle.  I've had to answer it many many times when I've been killed, so that's not  really the issuee.
I just wonder what the Voren0-thul is?

  Holden

Or is it a  Voren-thule?

2006-02-06 17:30:05

The Voren-Thul? Didn't you click on that link when Trungar told you what the claw was? If you had you'd know all about it.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!
