Hi,
I don't know if you noticed but there are stupid google ads on

www.l-works.net. Strange? Yeah...On every page there's that google ads

frame thingy...

I

didn't think google ads were a problem?  Sorry.  Is there a problem with me

running ads?  If you don't like them, skip them.

No

there's no problem, just mentioning it. Why do you have them anyway? It's

kinda funny. Boggle! Play scrabble! And. Pigeons! Comes up its funny.

There's also a new game on L-Works.  I don't know why it's worth

posting a whole topic on google ads apearing on a siteasside from the fact

that it's highly interesting and shocking news.

Uh...I could be wrong here but to my knowledge, it can be another (though

tiny) revenue stream if you're running ads. Every time the banner is

refreshed it earns a little money.

hmm. i

dunno what to say about this, but i noticed these adds quite a while ago. to

me, they don't fit the sight properly. it's hard to explain, but to me

they dont look right on a blind-games sight.
or, in other words, audiogames

sight.

Regardless of how they look, you don't visit the site for how it looks.

Don't make me comment on the ludicrousness of that whole concept.
You

visit a site for what it offers you. Google ads (or any ads, for that

matter) do not change the contents of the games produced by L-works, now do

they?
No, they don't.
So please quit complaining.

You're on the net.

Ads are, pretty much, a part of life. Be thankful the net's free.

yes

but google adds are stupid, and they make you press the arrow key x times ,

which if you press too fast can lock up the computer! ya guys get what i

mean?

2005-11-30 00:42:51

then

you have a messed up computer.  On my travels through the net, I come across

many google ad frames, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.  You know

what isn't right on a site for blind games?  Flash.  how about I make the

entire site in flash?  then you can complain!  but, it is a frame at the top

of the page that is very easy to skip.

yeah, just disable the frames in JAWS.

2005-11-30 16:53:27

Why does everyone complain about everything here? Christ

2005-11-30 19:37:13

ok.
i

didn't explain properly, my pc doesn't lock up, but.... i use hal. most

people think hal is stupid.
the reason i use hal is because it was the

first screan reader i got introduced to, and i have lived with it ever

since.
and the bad thing is on hal...
you can't skip frames. well not

automaticly. i can skyp the goole add, which is ok, but... well.

actually...
hay liam, why did you want to put adds on the websight? they

are ok, but i am just a little curious.
if yiou look closely, they are adds

for "boggle word game" or something like that. i haven't been to the

websight before (the adds ones that is, i've been to l-works though!).. but

perhaps they should be looked at, they are random! it's cool in a way, but

in another way it's a sort of timewaster. but in a way it's worth a look.

it's hard to explain!

Sure,

the frame's easy to skip. Sure, it doesn't conflict getting around the

site. But it's strangely out of place and strange! Why the heck do you want

them anyway? NO OTHER AUDIO GAMES SITE HAS THEM!!!

Just

because no one else has them does not mean Liam shouldn't have them. There

has to be the first to do it and that is Liam in this case. They don't

affect you in any way that renders you immobile or puts you in a life

threatening situation. You must really be bored to post a topic about some

stupid Google ads. Get a life. Now wonder I don't post here anymore. You

guys complain about every little change that is made. That's what's

keeping this market from moving forward. We know teenagers look for blood,

guts and sex nowadays and to attract them we must put these things in many

of the games. What happens when Spanker comes out? Oh no, it's offensive.

You 13 year olds popping up that want to make a company like QAD; fine, have

the market. Why don't we just dump it all in your hands and fuck it all.

I'm sick of all this bitching about nothing. It goes on and on and you guys

have to learn to adjust to change. Those ads are there because Liam wanted

them there. Little do I know, you might not have even bought Super Liam so

what does he care whether you like the site or not - it doesn't afect him.

Stop whining, it gets you no where. Look at you. Your site pops up ads like

hell because you're trying to start a major company on a free web hosting

service. Look at yourself before you point fingers at others.

2005-12-01 00:27:09

Well, okay. Site's got frames, so what? Do you not know your Jaws

keystrokes? Just press frikin T to skip to the navigation table. How hard

can that be? Like, why, do you even care that it has adds. It just makes the

site look nicer, in my opinion, anyways. Makes it look like an actual site

unlike some other sites which look dull because they've got no frames or

anything. Not that it makes them look bad, I just like sites that have

google adds. Stil, all in all, the point is to press the letter T in jfw.

And in Window eyes. They both bring you to the table. Get it? Aaron, and

Mike, you guys need to r1e-read your jfw manuals... cause it says there very

clearly, that to navigate to the next table in a webpage or document, just

press t! And that thing about arrow keys locking up your comp, if It's

happened to me, I would't be sitting here, They, don't, lock, up, your,

computer. Unless, as liam said, you have a messed up computer.

2005-12-01 18:03:13

alright.
i didn't say they lock up the computer, i said if you press them

*too fast* they lock up the computer. well that's not happened to me,

beacuse i don't press them too fast.
actually... they do lock up my

computer sometimes, and hal crashes. it's not my screan reader, but ever

since the new BT Yahoo! browser (which is required for braudband) was

installed, it's gone alittle weerd.  but most of the time they are

fine.
Oh and google adds. well... i will need to agree with munawr and

assault freak there right now, because munawar's post just changed my

oppinion.
perhaps google axdds arn't so bad after all,
and mike.
you

think they are out of place? look at what they advertise.
they are

advertising a few word games and some other stuff.
what does l-works have?

lworks words! and the new arcade volume 1 has word games, so... well... they

are sort of neet!

2005-12-01 19:51:44

The

reason I so rarely post here anymore is pretty much the same as Munawar's

reasons.

Also, guys...ever heard of page down?

Everyone calm down right now! This is getting insane!

Several

points:
Firstly, the google ads are generated randomly based on keywords

found in the web page. They are not selected by a human.

Secondly people

cannot choose which access tech they are first introduced to, and then it

can be very expensive to switch. I was first introduced to Supernova at

college, but when I was given equipment for a HE course the guy recommended

Jaws so that's what I have. I know someone who has Hal, but would prefer

Jaws if she could afford it.

Thirdly let's not get off topic about being

offended by game content.

Fourthly, the internet is *not* free in any

manner of the term. It costs money to either access the internet or to put

up a web site, whether this come in the form of subscription or call

charges. Those ads will provide a small revenue to help Liam continue doing

what he does pretty damn well.

Fifth:
The key error is an issue with BT

Yahoo from the sounds of things. I was with them, but moved because I found

their email unreliable and I got a better broadband deal elsewhere. As much

as I hate to say it, that is not the fault of Liam and is an unfortunate

issue with your system's set up which Liam cannot possibly be held

accountable for.

Now everyone calm the hell down!

first

of all:
i agree with cx 2 about the access tech thingy,
i couldn't

choose! all i knew is that it was a "talking computer", i was 5 years old

for gods sake!
secondly:
it's not just liam's sight.
it happens rarely,

but sometimes happens.
third: i think i agree with assault freak. you guys

should stop complaining and things, i mean whatever mike has, he has. same

with everyone else.
and, mike...
i am a little curious, will the z16 be

released? it's just that the last time was actually september, but please,

at least, give us news. dont get angry with me here, i am just saying what i

think. sights won't get updated like every month, but at least you may be

able to post news on something.
at the moment, i have auto it, and at the

moment i am not gonna start leearning until someone who knows autoit

scripting writes me a  *simple* game, then i will look at scripts and

things. then i will begin to make games.
if i ever make games... i think

they will be around 100 mb, and, freeware. i dont intend on making money,

it's a hobby.
that's allfor now

oh and

another thing about hal.
i didn't learn the name until after a month i was

introduced, but i tried jaws and it was a bit complex, because i am soo used

to hal. i think i know why i was introduced to it. ya know why? because

it's the simplest screan reader around! thanks to version 5, we can use the

net. before then, hal was rubbish for the net, i needed to be read what was

going on, and i think i didn't go on the net that much. with v5, and above

(i use v6 -- the latest version), it is now possible. i thought we'd never

be able to use the net. by we, i mean us as  users of hal. well, us, as in

everyone who uses hal that is.
oh and for those who use jaws...
i know you

will probably think it's the simplest screan reader around, but  to me, it

was a bit complex. it wasn't the full version, just the demo tosee what i

thought about it. it was ok, but... well... i dunno, however...
i wish i

can use elequence for hal. that might make you feel a little better,

actually..
someone actually got dectalk working with hal, but i am not sure

how! i wish iknew how, the voice on hal is real robotic. but so what? i like

hal, and it's staying with me for now.
i might change when i am older...

but now, it's just the simplest to use. it's something that at least

let's me go on the computer, it's not! the! end! of! the! world! so you

guys shouldn't complain about hal!!!!!!!
reguards,
aaron!
p.s. sorry for

the exclamation at the end of my name, i  am just a lill angry. not very but

only a lill. (i am in england, but americans sometimes say "lill". sorry for

misspelling!)

2005-12-03 01:31:35

Yes we should. I have a reason why it's the simplest screen reader.

Cause it's a pile of crap! Any simple screen reader which is simple when

you start using it is crap. JAWS is good because it takes you awhile to

learn the key commands and because there are so many which let you do a lot

of things. So I say, again, screw hal.

Discord: clemchowder633

2005-12-03 03:37:09

Assault_freak:
I personally find Jaws simple. The reason he finds Hal

easier is because he's got into the mindset of it's structure, it would be

the same for someone moving from Windows to Linux.

I previously thought

you to be a reasonable person, I'm saddened to see that I'm wrong.

We

are all introduced to access tech when we have little to no knowledge of the

access technology market, and so a large proportion of people get the

software they used the first time because they know it the best. This is

human nature. I don't insult you because you only use Windows now do

I?

Learning a new piece of software when you've already used another

package in the same category requires significant unlearning, to get out of

the habits you've been in for the past how many years? Besides, I know

he's in the UK like me. A lot of places in the UK push Dolphin products

because Dolphin's UK based, I'd swear on my life we have a far higher

proportion of Dolphin software users than other countries. It's partly the

fault of colleges and the like, they go to the company geographically the

nearest. Since Dolphin is the only developer based outside the US to the

best of my knowledge, or at least the only screen reader and magnification

software developer based in western Europe, they go with them.

Supernova,

the combined Hal reader and Lunar magnifier, is also very popular with

organisations over here because it covers speech and magnification in one

package. They don't know the difference between Jaws and Hal, they don't

know that one's much better than the other or not, they frankly don't

care. At the college I went to they had software to help dyslexics, a staff

member who was in their co workers department and helped me said he found

the software useful as a dyslexic himself, but the tutors that were supposed

to help the dyslexics said they didn't think it was any use but had no

experience of being dyslexic themself. Institutions make decisions about

software in very bad ways, and it impacts those of us who need specialist

software as this thread proves. I'm just very grateful I was recommended

Jaws, I had a choice but the demo versions of Hal from version 4.5 and up

confused me by changing the key layout so I decided it was time to jump

ship.

Yes I used Hal, I used a demo version of Hal that stopped working

after so many minutes for about 2 years because to buy a full version was a

similar price to that which my sighted counterparts were paying for cars...

And they could have part time jobs at supermarkets or Macdonalds.
