We are excited to announce phantom creations has acquired Environment suite.
For those who don't know what environment suite is, it is a landscaping engine that allows one to create highly detailed 2d or full 3d maps. From simple houses to miniature audiogames you can create nearly anything you could think of.
The download page for environment suite can be found here.
There is an example environment to get you started, and it includes a few extra materials so you may continue building onto it if you wish.
If there are any comments, questions or issues that need reporting, feel free to reply to this topic or send an email.

Enjoy!

Yup this is pretty cool. I really like what you did with this project. I'm in the testing team and he's really ran with it. You can, literally make mini audiogames in it. Not super advanced ones and that's not it's sole purpose but it's very cool indeed.

Hello all.
I forgot to include a program called envport which takes care of porting some of the old space delimited syntax to the newer tab delimited one.
It is included in builds from now on, though you can get it without downloading the program here

Hi.
If you guise want to make games, at least don't use the name of someone elses games.

best regards, muhammad chafid

2020-06-27 00:36:09

Hi.
@4, he did not. The source code was sold to him.

2020-06-27 00:54:37

Um, I've never heard of PhantomCreations. What have you guys done before? Also looking forward to trying this out.

Also @4 rebranding woudn't make sense, as it is the same game.

@6 they've made the table flipper, offensive world, see all their games (minus this one) at this link.

OK. So they're affiliated with folks like Omar Olvarado and Hamid, which I'm spelling wrong.

I don't think Hamad's part of it.
So while this thing was in beta and I was heavily testing it, I wrote a system in python to port a given set of SBYW maps to environment suite compatible syntax, and copy the needed resources, effectively allowing me to build environments out of any SBYW maps of my choosing. I used this to preserve a network of maps that have been dubbed the honeycomb, some may know the maps Spiderverse, newbright_city, blueform_place, and other such maps that were part of this network. I'm uploading that to the server now, they're kinda big. I have two versions, a version with _nomusic appended to the filename which is just a bit smaller and eliminates all music sources since there can be no music volume control in this engine, and just the regular one which drops all music to -15. I'll take requests for maps that should be made into environments, since I have the permission to use the SBYW sounds in the construction of these environments. Getting them from the current main server will be easiest, but if you have dependencies that you've entirely worked out you can send me a zip file to port if you like.
It should be noted that due to the current workings of this engine, precise tap platforming, or really most platforming since we don't have a sonar, is really hard to do. I've taken the liberty in the forgotten forest to put bleep sources on the platforms so it's easier to hit them. You can do some tapping if you do it really fast, but you can only be relied on to do that for a small amount of squares. So SBYW maps that require precise platforming like that should either be avoided or modified, I will not accept purely challenge maps. This is an exploration engine, after all.

@x0 , actualy that's cool, can I send you a txt file containing the rawmap of my sbyw map?

2020-06-27 10:22:27 (edited by DJWolfy 2020-06-27 10:22:50)

seems there is a problem with uploading my environment is not there and neither me or my friend can see any environments but test, sbyw_main and x0's feature test thingy. I also may have found a bug where you can't climb in 3d mode. Could be wrong though.

hello.
Currently environments uploaded to the site must be screened. You will see them once they pass this process.
I'm actually looking for alternative methods of allowing creators to upload environments, as it seems php and apache don't like the current methods. If you attempt to upload a really big environment, even though your not at fault, it will eventually time out and display errors, terminating the upload.
Any ideas on this would be welcome.

Hello all,
For those who tried using the uploader, I am happy to report it works properly now if you upload files larger than 60 mB.
@rory, I downloaded your env and gave it a try. It's really neat though I can't seem to get past the safe zone office. Is this by design or is there something I'm missing. If you don't want to spoil it feel free to email me.
I do remember there being a version of this for the older syntax and rather liked it.

Hi.
If I try to use flac step sounds, I get a PB runtime error, invalid memory access. If you need the line let me know.

2020-06-28 03:07:56

Hey there.
@ty, currently pure basic's flac support appears to be a bit broken.
There is a new version being tested that addresses walkspeed elements not being set up correctly. I'll let you all know when it's ready.

so is this just a landscape/environment builder? No other features like coding in quests or players and things?

The Certified Altruistic Lexicon is nigh!

2020-06-28 05:34:03

Hello there.
@dungeon diver, no, currently there is no way to add quests or npc. This is not currently designed for that. I do have plans to add npc in the future, however I haven't figured out how they will behave and so on.
Version 1.1 has just been released, addressing the walkspeed problem. the download page has the new version.
Also, for pre 1.0 users of environment suite I have started including an envport.exe application, which ports some, not all, lines of the older space delimited syntax.
The way this works is you give it an environment text file, it runs through it, updates as much as it can, and then makes a backup copy of the original in the event something goes wrong.

yeah, this sounds really cool. Wish you could make triggers play a sound, and reduce falling speed and disable fall dammage for one hardlanding.

2020-06-28 16:34:57

Triggers can play a sound, but yeah the falling speed and fall damage are hardcoded.

Hi.
Woah, I really need to give this thing a try!
Do you need an internet connection to build stuff? Or not.

Take care.
Mike.

I don't play games as much as I wish, but you can know that it's me if there's a John Weed over there. Ha ha!

2020-06-28 17:58:30

You do not need an internet connection to build, however you do need one to upload envs for others to see and be able to download.

2020-06-28 18:02:58

Hi.
No, I do not want to upload anything, just build for myself.

Take care.
Mike.

I've updated the honeycomb to make it a bit smaller, especially now there's more of a difference between the regular and nomusic environments. The difference here is that funtown isn't included, it was very lax on detail and some of the things it did wouldn't work in env suite because of the way death works, and it just ended up adding like 50 megabytes to the total env size. Plus the only way you could get to it was hoping that a random event from an easter egg landed you on a map that is part of it, the actual entrances were removed a while ago on SBYW itself. Just wait for them to be "screened" and plopped into the dir that lets you download them.
