So I was browsing through the features that would come to iOS 14, and found the accessibility features. The one that stuck out the most, is VoiceOver recognition, which (apparently), makes web experiences and apps that aren't natively accessible accessible with VoiceOver. It appears that that means interface controls too, and if it works like I hope it does, it might be huge for game accessibility.
We'll probably not be able to play action games, but turn-based games shouldn't that hard (maybe).

I expect the synthesizers. Maybe it can happen?

Yeah. I expect this to be pretty basic, maybe not even working very well in the beginning, but the idea that Apple is working on it is pretty awesome, and it can only get better. We will have to wait and see how much it is developed.

2020-06-22 23:07:25

I hope this doesn't mean people stop giving a shit about developing accessibility into their fucking apps. I can see that mentality now, "Hey, apple's already doing this, why should we care!"

@4, lolol, that sounds so true

I am a divine being. I can be called a primordial deity, but that might be pushing it, a smidge. I am the only one of my kind to have ten tails, with others having nine. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I have ascended my own race.

The widgets and app list are cool. Aside from that, I'm only interested in VoiceOver enhancements.

Yeah, hopefully people don't use that as an "easy out" of sorts.

I just had a look see at everything they say is in 14. I know that this may make me look crazy and maybe even wrong when the time comes, but we may have another 13 coming per say. Ok, that may take a little bit of explaining. When 13 came out, it seems like apple added good number of things, but 13 was really buggy or at least more buggy than it should had been. Well, IOS 14, it looks like they are stuffing in a lot of things. Could it be extremely buggy? We shall see, but I am thinking that it will be. The earphone adjustment thing looks interesting to me, if I can get it adjusted to my own hearing. Might hearing is not bad, but it is not what it used to be per say. As for the accessibility updates, Leave it to some developers to be lazy about adding that into their apps. We have been there before.

I don't have high hopes. Apple likes to add new features without fixing the broken ones first. Thirteen was a mess, so hopefully I am wrong.

In some ways, it kind of reminds me of what MicroSoft has became known for. Take windows, it seems like every new version is buggy and something is not where it used to be. IOS, you can count on being buggy, and if they keep on releasing buggy major versions, then IOS will become known for that OS that you want to weight a few months before even thinking about updating.

Seeing as to how you aren't supposed to go into specifics, I'll only say that I'm positively surprised on how the first IOS 14 developer beta works, and it certainly is a lot better compared to the first beta of 13. That being said, two important things to note are that first we are in the very early stages of the OS and a lot can change, both positivly and negativly, and second is that everybody has different usecases. I never found 13 too buggy for me, excluding the earlier beta releases and the version with the phone call voiceover crashing bug.
On the other hand, I don't think IOS 14 contains too many new features, mostly a few notable general improvements and tweaks.

2020-06-23 03:21:12

@4, true, but at least Apple is doing something. It won't be the solution to everything, but it's a step in the right direction

2020-06-23 03:23:25

I haven't had iDevices for as long as some of y'all, but I've seen iOS 10-13 and 13 is the buggiest I've seen yet. I hope 14's not worse.

I can't wait to try it with PPSSPP and see if it can at least read game screens, at most, "update" me when things change, or speak new text. Gosh that'd be amazing! I also can't wait for braille automatic panning.

Is there anywhere I can go to find out about new accessibility updates?
And as for iOS, I feel like iOS 11 was the downfall of iPhones because of them removing thirty-two bit support

2020-06-23 06:59:41

iOS 11 was the most buggy for me.

lol? Am i the only one in IOS11.3.1? Man it’s so grate that i don’t think to change my 8+for 3 years.

2020-06-23 07:42:56

The iPhone 8 wasn't around for iOS 11 was it? Weren't we already on iOS 12 at that point?

2020-06-23 07:47:55

8 and 8+ and x was using 11

2020-06-23 08:06:13

Lol, half of the thing being introduced were there in Android since at least 5 years ago. And if Apple thinks I'll appreciate them for adding an App drawer and widgets to home screen, then I don't know what's enovation.
That being said, Apple is good when it comes to accessibility.

2020-06-23 11:07:56

Well, I think we have to take the mess that is this year into consideration. They probably couldn't add everything they wanted to add.

The only features I'm even remotely interested in at this point are the new synthesisers that are apparently roomered to be coming. Judging by announcements though, it seems as though that's not actually happening. Somehow I'm not surprised. Now they're just trying to be more like android because people are finally looking past their lack of inivation.

2020-06-23 12:13:25

Yeah, someone needs to get in there and kick them into shape already.

Gosh Android could really benefit from that feature described in post 1. So many text games I want to play and so many text games inaccessible.

@11, same. The only bug I really had was the phonecall crassh bug, but other than that it was smoothe. Probably a bit laggy here and there, but hey.

Let's hope Apple can get back some Steve Jobiness.

@Jaidon, Your best bet is some of the OCR and recognition features built into Commentary Screen Reader for android, with functionality to recognize text and elements from applications, so you could set up a gesture to OCR the window, and just click on the item you find in the virtual review, which emulates a click on that item, like NVDA's Windows 10 OCR.
@haily_merry, I'm not sure what you personally think of this, but a common thing for people to say is that, Apple isn't usually quick to adopt new features, but when they do it, they set a new industry standard.
