Hey guys,
So i've finally recovered enough to go back into coding, and while I was doing that, I came up with an idea.
If you've ever heard of apps like Yarn, Cliffhanger, etc on iOS, then you'll know what Thread is. If not, I can explain.
Thread is a chat stories app which makes two or more characters interact in the form of text messages. As you read, you know who is speaking, the pictures, emojis or voice messages they are sending forth, or the delay it takes for them to respond.
You read the chat story by using your arrow keys. Once you finish a story, you can go back and read another one.
As of now, there is only one story, as this is a test version to see how this all turns out. If you have any suggestions, drop a comment below, or contact me, information found in the readme.
Download link:
[ I've temporarily removed the link for now, due to the domain being down. Apelogies for the inconvenience. ]
Hope you enjoy!

I have just released Thread version 0.2. It's a small update, but it contains slight improvements and some fixes.
Hope you are enjoying Thread so far.

I like it!

I just released 0.3, and I'm happy to announce you can now make your own stories! Read create.txt for more info.
The app now closes 450ms faster than it previously did.
The reader is now contained in a function, which means I can edit the reader on its own without having to edit each story's reader individually, because that was very annoying.
Once again, if you have any suggestions or bug reports, shoot me a message, or post below your thoughts. There should be an update soon with more stories.
Also, I'm taking stories! If you believe your story may make a great edition to Thread, send me the .STR file.

Enjoy!

why would it matter if you could write your own story? can others see them?

if someone wanted, they could distribute a version of thread with a series of stories, or provide stories of their own.
Pretty soon, I may create a page where people can give me stories, and then I can upload them for download by other people.

Can you add screen reader support to the audio form? Just use the speech thing.

Hmm... The truth of mysteries. I truely wonder. Don't you wonder?
The wonder of all the human life. Who are you? Do you know?
Can you face yourself? Understand who you are?

What speech thing? This is my first time using the audio form include, so I apologize for asking.

You can make the audio form use your screen reader. If you look at the bgt manual under the helper layer's object reference audio form methods section, you will find how to set speech output, under set output mode.
Here's an example.
form.set_output_mode(NVDA);
It should use speech through the nvda screen reader now.

All right, it's going to be in 0.4. A!, I see.

Today or tomorrow I will be releasing 0.4, which adds requested screen reader support, and preparations for an in-app story editor where you can create your own stories directly from the application.
In 0.4, you will be able to create .STR files using the app, but for now, that's it. You can't actually edit the content quite yet.
Also, I fixed an issue where the screen title didn't change after exiting the Thread Story Reader, please check though because I only patched the issue for the "Go back" button.
Enjoy!

I'm sorry, but wouldn't it be easier making a fanfiction and posting it on fanfiction.net? or just show it to your friends if it's not fanfiction? if yo uadd the abillity to create your own stories and publish them publically into the app, it would be special. if no uniqueness?

I'm not trying to put this in a bad light. I'm simply trying to understand how this is unique

Some people like writing stories, and I'm one of them. I think by releasing this, ideas can be spread. I felt like we were having a lot of action games, but not one that would allow you to create something and share it. Which is why Thread was born. Still

Interesting idea. I don't see much difference, you can just create a txt and read it, but you have a nice utility you can definitely turn into something. Did you think about allowing people to insert audio files into the story? So when arrowing through the story, it can just play the file, then resume speaking once the file is over and you can of course put the file into a specific line of story.

2020-01-02 23:01:33

That's the plan. I said that back in a few posts about possibly including themes, but it seems no one heard me. smile

Looks like JCHosting has some downtime, you'll have to wait to download the project. I'm lucky I didn't try to release 0.4 today. LOL

Hello all,
I've contacted JC-Hosting about the downtime, and all the regular servers are back up, how ever they are still trying to get the sub-domain servers back. THis means I'll be releasing 0.4 once things are back up, then 0.5 3 days after that.
Also, Patrick is now a part of Thread development. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact either of us.
Enjoy.

Nice! I will try to wait for those servers and or sub domaines to be backed up, then I shall write my story for all of you!

Hi guys,
I do apologize for leaving you guys in the dust. But, recently JC-Hosting has said they'bl be giving me my stuff, which contains Thread in it. Hopefully I get the backup, but for now I'd like to say that I've not abandoned this project.
Hope you guys understand.
