houdy here's what i have to say in brief well brief as i can make it.

Although this fella has a point in that most of these fuck witt companies

are starting up websites and stickin nothing on them, it is a hell of a slog

to program a game. I know cause i've tried it.  However i do agree that we

need games a little more along the lines of monkey business and shades of

doom. But here's my question? Why is it all platform and shootemups. Apart

from mister greenwood with his efforts in tank commander and lonewolf. What

we need is a flight sim? hmm how about an accessible vertion of desert

strike or soviet strike 2 great sighty games pakced with audio all ready all

they'd need is a wee tweak and they'd be fine.  Or a great fighter like i

don't know mortal konbat or streetfighter something along those lines.BSC

games where is your nlf sim guys? We need a game like this!

hi cj, like the nick
well, i think xlstudios tried to make a streets of

rage style game in danger city, but fighting games are rare.
besides

tournament from bpc there has only been the whisper of one in tounament of

the nine kings, and now after a week of waiting that's not going to

happen.
or it doesn't look hopeful.
and flight simmulations well

wouldn't they be hard to make? especially when your talkin about soviet

strike.
i suppose if it was just made like gma tank commander were you hear

bleeps when your on target then it could work.

Pay my respects to grace and virtue,
Send my condolences to good,
Hear my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could.

I

agree. We need games that are much more challenging than what we're playing

right now. But understand this. There are many sighted programmers, and only

a few of us. Meaning blind and visually impaired programers and

gamers.

Also, the sighted have 30 and 40 programmers working on a single

game, and it takes them years. I think they had over 50 programmers coding

Mortal Kombat Deception.
Now take a look at MK 1. Poor sound quality, poor

graphics. No why? Because only 2 programmers were working on the game, and a

sound designer. So yeah, as far as audio gaming goes, we're doing pretty

good.
I think that programmers should try and form a team, as opposed to

working by themselves.

It's amazing - 50 guys to make MKD and they couldn't even manage to make

something new and original. smile

ANyway I think we keep getting "baby

games" because we're willing to settle for them since we don't get much

especially now in audiogame land.  We're willing to say an excited yes to

anyone who says they're developing a game because we want tew games, at

least that's what I see you guys doing.  Maybe we should find something

better until someone comes out with a new wave of decent games.

I

don't know why there needs to be accessible versions of fighting games. If

you or your siblings/family owns or can get hold of consoles (PS2, Xbox,

Gamecube, SNES, Sega, N64,  the like), you can play lots of good fighting

games. Killer Instinct; StreetFighter (though the later they are, the

harder); Mortal Kombat (right up till Shaolin Monks but excluding

Mythologies and Special Forces, and Deception is hard); Soul Caliber;

Tekken. Yes, I've played all these, yes I'm am totally blind, and no, I

didn't have too much trouble with any except the earlier Tekken

games.
Really, just expand your horrizons. We don't necessarily need

accessible games if we can make some of the sighted games work.

What I'd

love is for someone to make a voice engine to go along with Square-Enix's

FFX.

Typically game programmers will concentrate on a specific genre of games.

This is because they can use the engine in subsequent games. This is even

true of the mainstream companies.  This isn't to say that Bavisoft or other

companies will never move out of a specific genre, this was meant to explain

why companies seem to stick with the genre they already use.  It is good

that many genres exist so that people can find the ones they most enjoy. Not

all genres of games are enjoyed by everyone. Bavisoft has chosen to make

games which were inspired by adventure games like Kings Quest and Secret of

Monkey Island. In the future we may decide to make games in a different

genre. Until then, if you like adventure games, we hope that you will try

ours.

I agree

that budget and number of programmers is a major issue. You can't just get

the audio game programmers to band together because it would take just about

everyone who's currently developing audio games to make a team equal to a

sighted company, and then sighted companies have the budgets for expensive

software. Mainstream game programmers also have more experience, it's what

they do for a living - from what I've been hearing the audio games

programmers also have other jobs which need their attention.

As for

flight sims, the interface would be very hard. Even if the game was reduced

to 2d movement things would move too fast to track by sound, and judging

range would be difficult.

By the way, not meaning to insult anyone but

the strike games weren't flight sims. They were arcade or action games.

Flight sims are first person and have 3d control, not isometric (top down)

and 2d control. Just to clarify.
