As a wise man once said...
Don't f***ing swear
tongue

I'm no prude, but we have had a time on here in the past when people would regularly swear at each other and it wasn't nearly as friendly as it has become thanks to Richard andd Sander. We also have younger members, and on occasion we have parents of younger visually impaired people asking for advice. Please consider this.

Mind if I ask what your computer specs are? I know that this problem shouldn't happen. Processor, RAM, version of windows will be sufficient I think to get an idea.

You were downloading the installer from the official Skype site, right?

windows: actually installed vista ultimate, but the computer was bought with xp home, a 1 gb ram, 1060 ghz processor, and i down loaded 4.1 beta from skype website, and 3.8 too. nothing helps.

There is no 1060GHz processor. They hardly go above 3GHz. You maybe mean 1066MHz bus speed, which is entirely different. Brand and model would be helpful too.

It's entirely possible you're having a software conflict. I would be concerned about the ram though, 1gb is enough for XP but Vista will probably want at least 2. Do you know what your virtual memory settings are?

i have all hw from intel, and drivers too. no, i dont know whats my virtual memory.

how do I access my virtual memory?  I'm having a different skype  problem, I have made new sounds for when someone signs on and off of skype and skype will not play them.  I made sure that skype is told to play all sounds and it still is not playing them, why??

2009-07-02 22:06:15

Regarding sounds, are they in the appropriate wave file format? I doubt this is due to virtual memory.

As to the original issue, I don't know what the trouble is. All I can think of is that it's a software conflict. Virtual memory is a chunk of space on the hard drive used by windows as an overflow to your ram, if you try using more memory than you have windows uses this instead. If you had it turned off I could see problems in theory. Of course the only systems I've seen with it disabled by default are SSD based netbooks.

yeah the files are wave format and I have skype 3.8 I didn't get the newist one yet.  Is that new one accessible?

2009-07-03 08:15:42

yes. they inprove the accessibility options. with jaws scripts from:
www.dlee.org
youcan do pretty much with it. so check it.

2009-07-05 20:20:49

yes. do not work. only with jaws. for we7 check the gwmicro homepage scripting center, perhabs u will find something here. the guys have there alot of good stuff for all progs.

I think he's trying to ask if Skype works with Window Eyes, not the Jaws scripts.

I've only run older versions of Skype, but I never really needed additional scripts with Jaws to make them work at a basic level. Can't speak for the most recent version though because I've not used it in ages.

I have window eyes 6.1 will it work  with that?

2009-07-06 08:30:23

no only with 7

it will work, actually, but the support is lagging. so I would recommend getting also SKread from
here
and it'll give you good support with it. we 7 won't need SKread because it has scripts, 6.1 doesn't.
