I think you can play against an engine in BG Chess challenge, I am not sure which chess engine they use though.

Shredder's app is accessible, at least for iPhone. Not a hundred percent sure about android.

The old Kchess Advanced and Kchess Elite may still work at least on Windows 7 and with JAWS, and they seem pretty good by the description.

Hi,
it depends, at which level do you want to play.
Yes, BG chess challenge is a great game, like others from spoonbil games, but it isn't very hard to defeat it even on expert level.
If you are a club player, then Fritz 16 would be better for you, as it has many features like rated games, hints, games analysis, ability to force openings for training, your own match databases etc.
And if you want to just play, there is also possibility to play against engines directly through command line. it isn't very confortable, but it works for all popular games including chess, but also Arimaa, Go and others.

thanks to all of you.
@rastislav i'm not a good player, at least not yet, so bg chess challinge should be fine for now. but thanks for your suggestions, it's much appreciated.

BG Chess Challenge is actually a little bit weird. Whatever engine it uses, it's...not very good. As in, there's not a ton of variation between beginner and expert.
Shredder can accommodate you regardless of your skill level, and you can tailor it to play aggressively or defensively, or in a more balanced style.

@9: I would say BG chess challenge searches to some depth, with a quite simple evaluation function. Expert level has thicker defence than beginner in sense that it won't give you figures for free, without using some tactics, although playing b6 against advancing pawn to b4, when second pawn is on a4 and his bishop on a6 to prevent b5! is too complex for him. big_smile
Anyway, I played few nice matches against it. Only mistake, that would be good to fix is, that taking material seems for its engine like better choice than preventing checkmate. so even if you lost your queen, you have still great chance to win. big_smile

Version 4.5.2 of Winboard can be accessed by Jaws or NVDA. If you search for and obtain and register a chess engine on the Internet, you can practice against a similar level of AI or grandmaster, or even more powerful AI.
