To reset the camera to its default position, only click the right analog stick, r3 on ps4.

2019-01-29 21:23:02

Oh, awesome. Thanks guys. So that means you don't screw up the camera by turning 180 de grease. Nice that you can center the camera again just by pressing R3.

Best regards SLJ.

i have another puzzle solution.
warning, long explanation coming!
at some point in the game, you have to open a portable safe. i'll paste here some lines from ign's walkthrough, the best i've found at the moment.

Over in the corner, you’ll find a Portable Safe, along with a Portable Safe Instructions File. It seems you’ll need to press buttons to light up corresponding lamps in a certain order - but going out of order will require you to start over.
Examine the object in your inventory to interact with the buttons. There’s no single way to start or end this puzzle, and unfortunately, the sequence is random each time you start the game - just pick a button and see where the others light up in correspondence and go from there. If you’re having trouble, get a pen and paper and start a 1 through 8 sequence next to the buttons to connect the dots

sounds hard for us, right?. no! it's doable, i've solved it just a few minutes ago!.

for this puzzle, you can imagine it like this: replace lights for numbers, or musical notes.
each button as a light, but also, a different tone. if we use numbers for this exercise, then lets say that button 1 is the one with lower pitched tone, and button 8 is the one with higher pitched tone.
the cursor doesn't wrap around.
the layout of the buttons is as follows:
1, 2.
3, 4.
5, 6.
7, 8.
to start, press a button. for example, 1. now, the light is turned on for that button. if you try to press 1 again, then nothing will happen.
press another button. for example, 3. now, try to press 1 again. if you can press the button, then it means that button 3 was'nt the correct one in the sequence.
if you press 1 but nothing happens, then button 3  was the next button in the sequence, now, you can't press neither 1 or 3, because the dots are connected correctly.
lets asume button 3 was the correct button in the sequence. so, for now, the sequence is: 1, 3.
try another button, for example 5. now, try to press 1 or 3. if they can be turned on, you know. the button you've selected was'nt the right one. so, pres 1, 3, and try another button.
i think you get the idea, right?
@seb or anyone else, if you compile this data someday for a guide or wathever, please explain it in a better way than i did, because english is native to you haha. in spanish, i could have explained it much simpler and better, but well... i think you got it.

Awesome job. Maybe this game is more accessible than I thought, keep us posted mr.brunete.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to play the game, but I'm hoping to have the chance to do that this weekend. I'll keep you all posted.

Wow. Thanks for the awesome information.

I think buy this game but I have question.
You said, for open a door who is behind you, you must turn with down and circle. But how happen when there are a door at the right for exemple?

2019-01-30 18:37:04

for those doors you simply walk left or right, and you'll open them.
but... the cammera resset doesn't work as expected for me, i have to experiment some more. for turning 180 there's no problem, because it's a command, therefore, you don't need to move the cammera. but resseting it.... let's experiment some more...

I've been watching CJUGames and Galm play it on Youtube.  I like it, it's a nice balance of the old classic Resident Evil and a new take on the game.

Hi everyone

First, thanks for posting this, it's really, really interesting. But I've some questions.
I've never played RE 7, so I don't know how this game is accessible for us. for exemple, in the RE 2 remake, how do you know when there's a door? Do you have to walk along all walls to find out?
And just to be sure, when you move: when you press up you go right in front of you, down you step back, and left and right make you side stepping correct?
Thanks for your answers, and I hope you'll finish this game! Good luck anyway.

best regards,

Rubyel

In RE7, you can easily tell where doors are, since they make a squeaking noise just like in entombed. I haven't played RE2 remake yet, will start playing it next week and I'll be able to answer questions.

2019-02-02 21:18:25

Hi
Thanks for the answer for the doors. I'll wait for the moving system, no problem.
When I sent my previous post, I realized that I had completely forgoten to ask a last question. You said you brute forced some puzzle, what do you mean by that?

best regards,

Rubyel

Well, bad news on my part. For some reasons the PC version does not work at all with windows 10's OCR feature using NVDA. I can use it for the title screen, however nothing else is displayed, I can't read the menus as well as the inventory. @mr.brunete, are you playing it on PC? If I can't find a solution I'm definitely asking for a refund.

2019-02-03 10:38:37

Is it required to do OCR on the menus and the inventory?

Best regards SLJ.

Considering the fact that this game has lots of puzzles, yes. This is a lot different than RE7. The more I think about it the more I'm seriously considering passing on this one and improving my guide for RE7 instead

2019-02-03 21:12:11

@seb
oh, sh*t! i forgot about the ocr.
in the main menu, press up twice and enter to go to options.
now, press down 5 times and enter to go to the graphics settings.
for it to work, i changed two things.
you need to change the graphic api to direct x 11.
press down once, then right once. press down again, you will hear a sound. it will ask you to restart the game. press up and enter to close it, and it will resstart automatically.
now, your screenreader should start reading properly.
the second setting i changed, is the window mode.
in the graphics setting, press down twice and then right once? to change it to borderless window.

@mr.brunete You, are, amazing haha. It worked so I'll be starting tonight.
@SLJ That's exactly what I am going to do. I'm planning to postpone my audio walkthrough to focus on improving the guide. Not enough people seemed interested in an audio walkthrough anyway, plus a more detailed text walkthrough will probably attract more people to these games in the long run.

2019-02-03 22:49:50

@slj: what i meant about brute force is that i started changing things randomly until it worked.
but don't worry about those puzzles, i brute forced them because i don't know the layout of characters or numbers to change, but once we can get any sighted help, things will be real easy if someone can write exact instructions for unlocking those locks haha.
@seb, i'm also interested in the guide, please. i had to sold all my consoles, so i'm on pc now, but i have to start all over again, all of my games haha. so it'd be cool to read your guide for speeding things up, and because i think you've figured some things i haven't.

i had my first boss fight, man! that was intense!.
unfortunately, i have to work two weeks at full time, so, i'll not be able to play much i'm afraid.
@seb, please post anything you can figure out, and can't wait to see your resident evil 7 guide!.
in other news, i can play something very different at work, but that's another topic.
see you soon guys, and i'll keep an eye? an hear, on this post!.

You exited the police station by yourself? Maybe this game is more playable than i thought. I'm starting to play tonight, will keep you all posted.

2019-02-04 04:12:22

exactly, i live only with my wife who is also blind, so, there was nobody here to help me.
@seb, you will finish this game for sure, you'll do better than me imo.
oh, before i forgot about it.
when solving lock puzzles for safes, i mean, those that you can only move left or right, the layout is easy.
spoiler...
example: the first safe of this type you will unlock requires you to imput the combination left 9, right 15, and left.... 6 or 7, don't remember now.
if the combination is l9, r15, l7, then you move left 9 times, then right 15 times, then left 7 times. after doing all of that, press x, or equivalent.
i'm saying this because at first, i was doing things wrongly. i was pressing left 9 times, then x. right 15, then x, left 7, then x. of course, it never worked. you must do all the combination and at the end press x.

@Seb: A text guide works best for me. I find that much easier than scrolling through audio files to find what I need.

I played for about 3 hours last night and here are my thoughts.
The navigation, picking up items and opening doors is much, much better than RE7 due to the camera not having to be positioned at the same height as the item in question. You don't even need to be facing the item with the camera, if it's to your left, in front of you or to your right you'll pick it up pressing a/x. The only time you want to turn around is, just like mr.brunete said, when the specific door or item is behind you, and you do that by moving the left analog stick backward and pressing b/circle.

I got pretty far in the game already, however the areas are pretty large compared to RE7 so far. There are different ambient sounds to give you hints on where you are. Another thing I'm going to mention is, being able to OCR the inventory, storage box and settings makes a huge difference. Unlike in RE7, there are no sounds to indicate if your cursor is positioned on an item or a blank space while navigating the inventory, so to unlock a door you'd have to try every slots until you find the key. I would honestly recommend anyone trying this game to download the demo and see if OCR works well. When it comes to aiming, it works just like any audio game would work. Center the sound of the enemy and shoot. If for some reason you screw up and you are aiming at the floor or too high for example, pressing r3 / the right analog stick resets the camera behind you.

Let me say it again, this game is not going to please everyone. If you have a good memory and you're able to draw a map in your head, You're definitely going to have an easier time. It's way too early for me to say I prefer this one over RE7, but not having to spend an hour searching for a specific item due to the stupid camera not being at the right height is a huge plus for me. I'm seriously having a blast so far, playing a game that was originally released in 1998. A game that I could only dream of playing due to the controls being simply impossible to deal with for a blind person. I'm looking forward to see how it goes.

2019-02-05 08:36:46

Wow. This is really awesome indeed.
Regarding RE7: It seems like the camera doesn't need to be aimed directly at the items to pick it up. Regarding doors, you can sidestep through them as well. I don't know if I have screwed up my game on my Xbox, but this is my experiences so far. I have to get more experiences with the game to say if I just got lucky. Trust me, if you screw up the camera in RE7 then you are lost. It seems like this has been my biggest issue so far, combined with it took me a while to fully understand how crouching works.
The camera height can be quite annoying. Just remember to crouch before picking up an object.
I will check out RE2 in the future, maybe after I have completed RE7, if I ever come that far.

Best regards SLJ.
