@25, that doesn't matter. The topic of the title makes people think that most of Steam accessible, when clearly it is not.

I couldn't even join when I tried, so yeah. I really wanted the You Don't Know Jack games but couldn't get them.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

I do wish they'd either ditch the Captcha or incorporate an audio alternative for the sign-up process. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm nitpicking but you can hardly call something accessible if you can't even sign up.

That is completely invalid. I literally cannot think how the topic of this post makes people think that way.  The topic of the post says, steam browser. it doesn't say steam. or steam client. and if "people" used steam before, they already know that  the browser is also accessible with chrome or firefox, it's just a bit more convenient to use the built in browser so that when you install a free app, the installer comes right up. It's doable with chrome for example, you just need to allow the browser to launch steam bootstrap to do its thing and alt tab around to steam's alert window.
edit: i must add though, that the topic is slightly misleading. it should have said, steam built in browser. because steam browser has been always accessible with an external client.
as for me i have not downloaded the new client yet so no comment on that. I'm pretty fine with the current state of steam. specially now that the chat system is much more accessible. it used to be a disaster

Thanks Lirin. I'll try that. I can't find any install button when looking at the website as well. I'm really trying to get Steam to work for me, but keep failing. smile

Hi.
Pressing enter on the game I wanna install did something interesting:
It started an inaccessible installer, but I could use OCR to read what happened, so I managed to install the game. Or, I thought so.
THe game took a while to update, and then I could finally launch the game and start playing.
But, it turns out that the game is not installed. I don't see it in the start menu, and not either on the Desktop. It just starts when I press enter on it in Steam.
If I wanna use Steam more in the future, how am I going to do that, when NVDA doesn't read the games I'm choosing? Any ideas on what I have messed up, since I don't find the game neither on the Desktop or in the Start menu?
I'm glad I finally got the game to work, but I'm not impressed by Steam at all.

Best regards SLJ.

Hi. So yeah, steam's browser is accessible. That's a fantastic step in the right direction. What's not so fantastic however is the predicament the new update has landed me in. The store is the only thing that I can use with the steam client now. I can't figure out how to access anything other than the store screen. That's what shows up when I start the app, and that's what i always see. Someone please offer insight into what's up, because I just spent a bunch of money on new stuff for black Friday, and this nasty surprise has me all irritated at valve for the 422nd time.

Not being able to install games correctly, and because of all those bad changes, I have pretty much given up on Steam again. I'll prefer a more accessible system like the XBox one. Steam simply don't work for me. It install games inside the client instead of installing them normally, which means I don't know what game I'm choosing before it starts. This is just not usable for me.

I'll start writing or recording a steam guide asap. meanwhile, if you focus is being stolen by the steam browser, press control+f and OCR again.

The new steam window looks like this.
When you login, you have your list of games, nvda object nav doesn't read these anymore sadly.
What you have to do is arrow through the list of games you have installed and hit enter on them, depending if they are installed or not, the installer will pop up, or the normal playing dialogue.
Yes, it could be better, but for someone like me who just plays games on steam and doesn't care about the chat or comunity, this still is doable.

35: I wasn't really looking for someone to tell me why I shouldn't use what I use. I understand steam is far from ideal, but it's doable, and I've been using it for so long that I've build up a library worth several hundred dollars that I'd have to repurchase were I to switch to a console, in addition to buying the $400+ console itself and setting up a tv again. Then there's the matter of games like smuggler's5, sacred citadel and others which are small enough to not be available on anything but pc, forcing me to have steam installed anyway. For these reasons, I'm not interested in hearing a steam inaccessibility rant in response to a plea for help, and though I definitely agree something needs to be done about the matter, until steam is made completely unusable by one of valve's screwups, switching platforms is not something I'm willing or able to do.
36: Thanks a ton man. You found the magic fricken button. No idea how you found out about that, but it did exactly what I needed, dismissing that stupid store and pulling up the screen I'm used to. Whoever decides to make a steam setup guide, definitely take note of that fix, because for whatever reason it works. Thanks again.

@39, you don't need a TV once you've got Narator running on the Xbox, you can use it TV-less.

Hi.
@simba: Thank you very much for the short demo of Steam. I have a few questions:
1. What mode are you using for object navigation to read in the Steam window? I have tried both with screen navigation and with object navigation, and on my computer, it doesn't read anything at all. When I do OCR on the window, I can read my list of games.
2. When I press enter on one of my games, one example is Blazblue which I also heard you have bought, the game just starts without asking if I wanna install the game. The first time I ran the game, it came up with an installer which I completed, but the game is not in the start menu or on the desktop. It seems like it's directly installed into Steam itself. Any clue on what has happened and how to fix it?
I'm really trying to get Steam to work, but can't figure out what's wrong.

Best regards SLJ.

Hi.
@SLJ, well, as I said in the demo, sometimes the object nav, I use the object view, doesn't really work in the steam window, I found out that restarting the client, so killing it from the task amanger and restarting it helps matters.
Most steam games do not create a desktop icon unless you specifically tell them to do that during the installer, you can launch them though by using the search field in windows 10.
The games are installed in.
c:\Program Files x86\steam\steamapps\common.

This path might be different fromo yours, so check where you have steam installed, you will find your games there in the steamapps\common subfolder.

Hi.
@Simba: Thanks a lot. That explained what I need to know about the games. Weird it doesn't even show up in the start menu, but you have to search for it. Well, it works... smile
Regarding using the object navigation in Steam: Not even restarting my computer works. I'm running the latest version of NVDA.

Best regards SLJ.
