Hi there,

In a post not so long ago, I mentioned that there are at least three games, which I've alluded to at least in passing, that gamers here might wish to try. I know for a fact that they all work - easily, I might add - with Jaws, but Hal/Window Eyes/any other speech program is up in the air since I haven't tested them. Below I'll give a bit of a thumbnail on each.

The Dark Grimoire
URL: http://www.darkgrimoire.com
Description: A tight and easy-to-use interface atop a free-to-play RPG. The rules are rather strict in many areas, and levelling/exploring can grow mighty difficult and tedious. Optional premium membership makes this a little easier, but not much, since the game has a level cap (level 62) and many features designed to keep you playing for awhile. The descriptive atmosphere is decent, though not particularly brilliant; roleplaying occurs, but you might need to look for it. The site auto-refreshes as well, but I believe it's something like once every thirty seconds/once every minute, so it's not awful and won't stack (some refreshes I've seen stack). The emphasis is not specifically on levelling, though you can spend a heck of a lot of time grinding and not get too far. Heh. Players are friendly, and there are quests for better gear which are quite interesting; also should note that some of the areas to explore (the giant anthill is one) are famously complicated, and I adore them. I should note that character interaction is not required, but it's definitely helpful. PVP does not exist in this game, so there is absolutely no way that you can have any of your items, money or experience taken away, or your game experience otherwise hampered, in such fashion.
Overall Review: 7/10 (a few features could be implemented/tweaked, and the rules are a trifle too tight in some places, but those things are mostly made up for by excellent interface and potential interest factor)

The World Called Hollow
URL: http://www.hollowgame.com
Description: I think this might once have been listed on the accessible games page here on audiogames.net, but I can't recall. In any case, this game is far far more roleplay-oriented. The walkable map is bloody huge, but not terrifically complicated; as of March 2007 or thereabouts, some monsters are aggressive, and since one's escape chance isn't guaranteed, even on round 1, exploration is no longer 100% safe (this makes sense, but means it's less explorer-friendly). There are literally hundreds of pieces of equipment to buy or find, though most of them become obsolete or are only useful for roleplay purposes. Many races and classes (most of them rather typical, i.e. other fantasy games, particularly stuff like D&D, from which Hollow originally sprang), and an as-yet-incomplete fighting engine (for instance, some classes can heal themselves while others can't, but the ones who can have no real drawbacks). PVP exists, but is not forced. The emphasis in this one is very strongly on roleplaying; quests, storylines and the like are done by player interaction. Be careful here: the game is interesting but there are a lot of people who seem to have superiority complexes and can't roleplay without trying to pass for a thesaurus. Heh. I've been there off and on with different characters but my interest has waned since this school of thought has come to the fore.
Overall: 6/10 (easy-to-learn interface and a lot of potential, but some bad selling-points in the form of faulty combat mechanics and semi-elitist roleplaying)

The Eternal Duel
URL: http://www.eternalduel.com
Description: This one's good if you just have a bit of free time and want a fairly simplistic grinder. Your only two stats besides HP are strength and agility, which can be trained. You fight monsters, earn gold and experience as well as gemstones, level up, fight stronger monsters, ad infinitum. You can mine for more gems as well once you have the cash; gems are used to make weapons and armour more powerful, as well as increasing their experience and gold bonuses. There are several different races to choose from, each with their own strengths, and quests as well, though my knowledge of the quests is fairly limited so I can't help much more than that. Also, there are voting sites down at what looks to me to be the bottom of the page, which you can click for free AP (AP can be turned into stats from your profile page). The game has a lot of potential, but currently has some holes in it; also, the writing's not too great, and older versions of Jaws in particular tend to have a problem with their virtual buffer (that is, I can be highlighting a link with Jaws, but when I click, the link below it is the one which is activated).
Overall: 6/10 if you're looking for a grinder, I haven't found any better; 2/10 or even less if you want an immersive game experience...this one just isn't for you.

I know of other games as well but I think they've all been mentioned already (I'm thinking in particular of the Kingdom of Loathing, which is quite a riot, and Twilight Heroes, which is like a fledgling KoL but has a lot of promise). Thanks for reading. If anyone has any further questions about any of these games, I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Hi all,

Did anyone hear about forumwarz and the newly fan KoL created Soul Raver? Soul Raver is in alpha stage and can be found at http://www.soulraver.net and thanks to me the current areas are labled now, before they weren't. That is, when I started which wasn't too long ago.

I also play the Kingdom of Loathing and Twilight heroes, but I haven't been on Twilight or months now, more involved with Kingdom of Loathing, which looks like it'll be having some huge clan changes soon.

I also play forumwarz off and on which is awesome in it's own write. It can be found at http://www.forumwarz.com and it's KoL's distant relitive in that it's a parity of the internet, but the interface and consept are different. It still has the same humor as Kingdom of Loathing.

Then there's Secret Society Wars, which seems extremely detailed, in fact it's so detailed that it has 18 degrees (levels) of quests, and that's more than KoL, FWZ (Forumwarz) and Twilight. Unfortunately, though, Sryth beats it by a long shot. But, on the other hand, what doesn't Sryth beat?

Find what they call SSW (secret Society wars), at http://www.secretsocietywars.com

Now, here's a game that might have varrying effects on people's minds than others. Ankhet.

Ankhet is rather detailed. It has various types of quests, from battle quests, entering dungens and fighting your way through them, and trivia quests, where you go to a god and or godess and answer trivia questions for favor which, in the world of Ankhet, is experience. There are even quests which require you to post on the forums to, for example, say you're a new player. Not only that, but every time you post to the forums you gain favor. And yeah, if you're a total forum junkie, you may find yourself gaining levels just by posting.

If anyone wants help on Ankhet they can start there own thread on it, but let me tell you, it's very community based. Clans struggle for power and things. People go to great lengths to force members on there side of the great struggle, including, I think this is what it does, takes favor away, you loose levels, so yeah. Never had that happen to me yet and I sure as hell hope it doesn't anytime soon.

Ankhet is at it's logical place on the internet, http://www.ankhet.com.

Well, I've ran out of ideas now.

Might start playing Hallow. Which, by the way, was previously a mud ported to the web from the looks of things.

Yeah. Sryth beats all browserbased games I think. The only two features I want in Sryth is a multiplayer feature, where you can fight against other characters in realtime. I also want a realtime chatting system.
sryth is the best game I have ever played!

Best regards SLJ.
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.

There is always the old Warring Factions, but the galactic map can be tricky at best on there. Oh and there used to be Ashes of Angels but that got repetitive. WF was a browser based space strategy where you build up your empire, ashes of angels was also a sci fi game where you could trade, mine, become a pirate etc.
