This update is going to be one of hopefully many more themed updates, the theme of this update was expanding the southern region of exploration, one that until recently was the most empty, the game has been in development for at least two years and the south has barely been touched since its introduction, so this update has improved a whole host of things, there are now zero empty locations, there are huge lore expansion for the south and three new settlements to explore, in lieu with the update's themes I'm going to divide the changelogs into sub updates as it's a juicy one!

**THE FAR SOUTH**

The Far South was a previously abandoned area with some placeholder text in it, I planned to add some far away from the world coastal settlement but this update went overboard and I have added an entire culture, with a full breathing black-market like city and tons of lore and things to do.

* Added the city of Shaian to the south coast
* Added the Nalli outpost to the south coast
* Added Akall fortress to the south coast
* Added the Farthest Stretch to the south coast
* Added the Coastal wall to the south coast
* Added ability to speak to the coastal king
* Added 6 book library to the city of Shaian (readable books)
* Added 2 taverns, and 15 other locations to shaian
* Added ability to recruit peasants from shaian
* Added ability to attack shaian and raid the outpost
* Added 8 characters with dialogue lines to shaian
* Added new shaian tavern dialogue system (30+ lines)
* Added new name suffix (of the South Coast) +15 battlescore
* Added new name suffix (Son of the Coast) +13 battlescore
* Added new name suffix (of Shaian) +20 battlescore
* Added very rare coastal trader throne room encounter

**THE DRYLANDS**

The Drylands is next, it's the region where the demon gate is based, I have added several locations here including some which will later be expanded, but I won't spoil them currently! there are also nomads in this region but they are worthy of their own category!

**THE NOMADS OF THE DRYLANDS**

The Drylands is a rough place to live, but when the going gets tough, only the strongest survive, so we have drylands nomads, a group that never stay still and move from location to location, they are some of the toughest opponents in the entire game, with none tougher than their leader Koova (based partially on Conan the Barbarian), seriously try to fight them if you feel up to it, Koova is a beast!

**TRUE OASIS**

The Oasis region should have had more settlements being seemingly the only settleable location in the south, so we have added one, with a history and some concerning things going on around it, Arasuk, a secretive village!

Cool update, looks like a good bunch of new content. I like the new way of presenting the changelog way better, it seems to me better organized. BTW: Are the internal conflicts already in this update or will they come in later? Haven't seen this in the changelog. And I have another suggestion, since the game tells so many stories in one game. Some throne room encounters inspired me for this idea. How to put in mini adventures, where you can solve criminal cases and investigate what has happened in the realm? Some encounters were someone asks for reparation have given this idea. Something happens or someone asks you to find out or investigate something and you go to different locations and talk to people to solve the case. I think as mini adventures or such that would fit in as well.

Hmm, I am not playing multiplayer games, so that's nothing for me. But if you plan it, it should be an Optional way to Play, not the only one. But I like exactly about the game that it is single Player and offline, since there are a lot of online games with such lots of Content, but no real offline alternative and warsim does this Job pretty well.

@Niklas glad you like the new update style, I haven't added any of those conflict encounters yet, planning to add a bunch of them in the next update as for the King of Aslona Private Eye, I'm not too sure, perhaps for huge things like what happened to the ancient south, how did the northern clans collapse ect could be something you try and solve, but little murders and common problems would be better suited to people working under the king.

@Ethin, Hmm, would be difficult, how do you propose a multiplayer version of the game would play out? each wait for the other to finish their turn and attack, as well as offer diplomacy and stuff? could toy with it but multiplayer is a beast I've yet to fight and could require a crap ton of work, but that being said I love a challenge, though warsim will always remain a singleplayer experience at the core regardless

Amazing update!
Thanks for all the added lore... this is going to be awesome to explore.
The nomads sound especially cool, that and the lake of blood because I mean, come on...
The additional settlement and fortress too... I really like those!
I didn't expect this so soon, but I am pleasantly surprised; I was prepared to wait for a couple months at least...


I honestly didn't really notice what the difference was in how the changelog was done... lol
Are you talking more about the update schedule? or the actual way the changelog's are formatted/when they are announced.
One thing is that it would be nice if you'd put audiogames.net next to Niklas's name, I know that none of your players will really care, but if other indi devs read your page or play your game, it would be nice to spread the word to them, because they are the most likely kinds of sited devs to be interested in this community.


As to multiplayer, it's always a massive undertaking, with tons of additional troubleshooting do to different people's network setups, as well as tons of additional balancing for fairness, and I don't even really see the need. Not only do you have to stop cheaters, but you also likely need to set up a central server, especially for a game like this, which means donations for the game will go mostly towards that, unless the price of the game goes up for a feature that, I'm guessing, the kinds of people who usually like this type of game are unlikely to use anyway.
This is a game with loads of randomly generated content, which can keep you busy for a long time, and MUDS exist for a reason.
Also, if it ends up running on steam servers, than that means it will be almost certainly totally inaccessible for us anyway.
I get the draw of fighting kingdom to kingdom, I really do, but their are other games for that, cyber assault, rise of empires, time of conflict, tactical battles, ETC.
Maybe when Warsim is almost finished, when ever that will be, but for now I think there are about a hundred more important things on the list than that, and I'm pretty sure Hue doesn't know network stuff anyway...


The investigation thing sounds cool on one hand, but on the other, I don't get how it would make sense for the king to do it, and just having someone else do it would be kinda boring; maybe if their were a quest or two like that though?

Another thing to report: It seems that the asccii signs even show up if you choose to listen to a song from a traveling barth. And another thing. Could some grafical elements get text descriptions? I first encountered a changeling but as I paied him for changing his face or making a dance nothing happened for me cause I don't know what's going on. Another thing is the goblin dances or some things to view in some areas, like models of ships in the guild row or the animal scetches. Would be great if they could be made accessible with descriptive texts so we can even get something out of such things. It would be interesting.

@Defender, Glad you like it, I love the nomads because they've got lots of new features added to them that haven't been done in the game before, they are a faction that moves settlement to settlement, also their leader and second in comment plus one other special character appear in brawls in their little brawl pit at random which can be fun and their leader is the single strongest unit in the game after maybe a demon and they have a secret special battle only unit!

I am beefing them up even more for the next update where you can pay the nomads in soldiers for tips on the local area and I'm adding a thing they do every three years which is go to the canyons and have a rock-jumping battle to settle disputes, they hop between canyon rocks until one falls off and dies.

The changelog was different because instead of separating things by what kind of addition it was ie, main additions, bugfixes, throne room, ect I split it into sort of mini DLC style updates, such as 'this is the nomad update' and 'this is the coastlands update and so on.

Can definitely put the site's url after any suggestions that get added, sounds fair to me! smile

Yeah if I ever dabbled with multiplayer it wouldn't be until the game was completed in the far future I'd say, but you are right, couldn't have it detract from the fact it is a singleplayer game and as for the investigation stuff I think beyond asking your guard and maybe a little further I wouldn't have full blown investigations, aside from maybe some kind of expedition or investigation into big world events, ie an independent kingdom has just up and disappeared and you sent a team of people to find out why.

@Niklas, Travelling Bards? searched the code but can't find any instance where the ascii isn't blocked, definitely with you 100% on the things with no description though, oversight on my part, I will fix all of those for you now but let me know if there are any that I have missed! you will be credited for what you have found!

Hmm, strange, since my screen reader is reading some signs while the barths songs are playing. What can that be? Another thing, there are a few typos in the tutorial of old croll. And another thing I found, if a man has to explain himself for a crime, the game says 1 execute the man 2 3 but for 2 and 3 it don't says the options again.
And a question: After I bought books in the black market, how I can read them then?
On the exploration side, it would be cool if you could even go into abandoned buildings and houses and explore them as well.
But the idea of big expeditions sounds great to me.

@Niklas, nevermind tested it and found it, let me know what the typos are as for the 2 3 I don't fully understand

You can read the books from the blackmarket in your library in 'other buildings' on the main screen

As for exploring the abandoned buildings, only if I put something in there to see, the ones in the blackmarkets get filled up when the time is right smile

in the first part, your army is typed wrong, because there it says you army. The next is strenghten where is a mistake. And individuals is typed wrong as well. That's it for now, nothing else to report.

Cool, no problem, I like doing that. I just have to play the game and discover, wich is nice. I hope, if not happened that the animal scetches and grafical models like the ship in the black market even get descriptions, so we know what's happening and get some information out of that and maybe some more backgrounds.

I discovered another typo in the throne room. A man who fought for faradal showed up, and the he claims was typed wrong, it says he clams. BTW: Are you able to add more advisors than the two to your staff that you have at the start? Would be cool if you can get more advisors in the game into your staff, maybe each with different advices and personalities, wich means, one could be humorous, another more wise and such, like the both you already have at the beginning. And it would liven things even more up if the advices could change depending on situations and other happenings in the game.

wow, read the announcement about what will be a big part of the coming Update. Sounds cool again and again like an amazing bunch of new content and it fits into the time because of the extra Halloween like touch to it. Hope you remember to make backups, it would be very sad to lose such a project. One thing is for sure, if the updates continue this way, this game could even kick the asses of the big games like skyrim and the witcher in terms of content. Keep 'em coming. Ah, before I forget it, the announcement has brought another idea to me. What about several forests, some of them filled with dark or bad creatures and such to explore, a bit like the forbidden forest in Harry potter. If magic comes into the game, there could be even magical forests as well as other places. Another place could be a magician guild or school, were you can learn about magic. You could have units wich can do magic spells and learn new ones by other units or they can make magical drinks and such. but the forests idea is more general, not only for the magic theme. There could be even non magical forests full of dangers and monsters and such stuff.

@Niklas, you can get more staff, if you go into the staff screen you can hire a spymaster and a jester too, and on top of that you can hire a gamesmaster and a musician if you find some in the throne room

@Niklas, fixed the clams bug too, thanks! smile definitely a thought, there will be witches in the next update, the plan is for there to be Baiaa the city of stone, a bunch of expansions to the north, some additional nomad stuff and a few tweaks.

At the moment the nomad expansion is done and it works really well, we've got special tips the nomads give you, lots more dialogue and new little locations as well as a little rock jumping tournament they host every three years on the big red canyon.

Finished with most of my tweaks so now working on smashing out the Baiaa update, but there's so much that has to be put into it, it feels like a small world in and of itself

I have another suggestion for the athmosphere. If the sounds work like they should, there are even more possibilities to make this clear, but it should be there as text as well. In violent and cruel dark regions where are a lot of purely bad races and creatures, maybe there can be some scenes if you explore the areas. Some bloody and gory scenes or in more mysterious areas, some scary or sometimes shocking things could happen. Such scenes could happen inside or outside of buildings. I think that could make some dark or dangerous and evil areas more athmospheric, so that you feel that some of those life forms in there are more evil than normal people or races in the main war conflict.

Yes, no problem. But I completely forgot to explain the 2 3 bug in the throne room, so let's do this first. For example a man is accused for a crime. The game reads all possibilities you have. You choose 1 to let him explain himself. than you ask your guard. After that, you get the selection. The game says 1 execute this bandit scumm, 2 3 without telling what 2 and 3 are doing again, do you understand the point?
About things that could happen, hmm. Maybe you watch some people torturing others with descriptions, so the brutallity is grafical. You could spot even brutal fights, not only brawls. Some evil Kills, for example a vampire bites someone and drinks the blood. Other creatures could eat people. In some scenes, blood and brain could splatter on the flor and such things, everything that could help to get a feeling how evil someone is, but more personal, not only from books. Some could be just killed with knifes and such or theier skin is wrapped off or such. Not in each area, ofcourse but in the evil and wiolent ones there could be even more brutallity. In mysterious areas, you could encounter ghosts, in others people disappear seemingly for no reason. Or people are mysteriously killed and that happens more often. That could be things you encounter and explore what's behind that, or areas wich are cursed and there are mysterious Sounds and strange things going on and your expedition could try to find the reason. I know this is no horror game, but as some horror creatures and elements get into some areas, something like this could fit. Maybe even in abandoned buildings. And I think mystery, scary things and a bit of gore fits into such a game where you have so much to explore. Hope you understand and maybe get some inspiration out of this post.

Regarding throne room, I found a last Thing where I am not sure if it's a typo. Sometimes, People join you and say they Need to pay smals fees. Doesn't it mean smal fees? But I may be wrong here since english is not my mother tongue.
