Warsim is a terminal application.
You need to use nvda's screen review keys (see the manual for a complete list) to review text. In order to read a terminal application, you need to be in object review.
The repeating of text is just a simptom of terminals in general.
There are ways around both issues, but they require some advanced knowledge to pull off.
If you're still struggling after reading up on the review keys make another post here, and I'll see if I can help figure it out.

press nvda+numpad 1 until it says either object review or no previous review mode.
Now use the following commands:
numpad 7, 8, 9: read previous, current or next line.
4,5,6 previous, current, next word (press 5 twice to spell)
1,2,3 previous, current, next character

I always just use NVDA's read lines commands. Just go up and down the terminal. Sometimes, you'll be moved to the end, so you'll have to go all the way to the top, but then sometimes you won't want to anyway, like after a battle, so it works out alright.

I'm having save loading issues. All the time. This is my second game and I can't load my save files. I always get told I have 2 extra variables and that it's a bug and to contact the developer on Reddit (I didn't think you could as I thought it was just lots of boards and subboards and all sorts of stuff).

I'm gutted... I was starting to get the hang of it and was starting to become a bit of a beast. But then I made the mistake of going to bed.

Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not start again but if I have to I will.

Hmmmm. I think I must've corrupted the internal text files somehow when I went looking for how to customize things. A fresh install seems to have fixed it. Nevermind. Sorry, I got curious. I do it to other games too smile

Liking the game so far. I like the open endedness of it. One game you're a hard pushed leader fending off the advances of a fierce rebellion. The next, you're a scheming demonic uprising trying to fend off the forces of the light. In either case, moving from being on the back foot to having some kind of might of your own. I haven't reached a point where the game is too easy yet.

I'm sure I'll come up with suggestions later on. The only one I can think of is the ability to name your rival factions and leaders. But then this game seems to have it's own kind of lore. I don't know.

In any case, keep up the good work!

A few things that came up whil discussin this game with a few (addicted as hell) friends...

1. For custom games, and this was in relation to mods and possible mods, let us completely go wild with customizing a game if we want, if we don't want rebels, or more bandits, or the AI to be more aggressive, let us do that.

For instance, w could in this example set up a game 6 kingdoms, 10 small kingdoms and 5 bandit groups then if idea #3 is implemented more, sit back and watch what happens.

2. More AI interactin with our kingdom. By that I mean I feel like nearly all of the trading and stuff is done from our side, one idea that got thrown around was to have AI rulers and lords and such have the ability to do stuff on their own, so for instance one small country could ally with a bandit group, or bandits could disband on their own, or AI lords could come to you with trade offers, vassalizing and offer you troops without you having to request it. That to me would be a huge, huge step to immersion.g

3. AI like/dislike ratings and effects. Everything the AI does should have an effect n relationships, right? Well what if, for instance, a bandit attack provoked an independent nation into all out war with that bandit group, or the AI rulers noticed you were being nice to their enemies and sent troops to your lands, or offered you gold as a bribe?

4. More use for battles. Instead of killing soldiers why not capture them, use them as slaves, or for lords or nobles, let us install them in our court if we choose, or let them live in our kingdom peacefully.

@Draco: Interesting you mentioned mods, I've spent the day savefile tweaking to set myself up the perfect game... I'm guessing I'm not the first one. I'm trying to make my life easier for later tweaks.

That being said, none of this is because the vanilla game has anything wrong with it, it's just to set things up to be a particular fantasy world to add some flavour to it all.

@Truecraig, thanks for the comments, you can actually rename the factions in the debug menu if you wish to, the menu is the cheat code 399 from what I remember

@Draco, Love the ideas, Custom games are a big project I am planning to add sometime in the future, the size of it scares me because not only will it be a lot of new code but also I will have to modify tons of code that hardcodes kingdoms to be made up of 5 different factions, I want it to be infinite, to allow infinite kingdoms, so you could possibly have a game with 100 kingdoms, can you imagine how hectic It would be, absolute chaos! I can't wait

In regards to kingdoms doing things automatically, I love it, my only issue is, and I've been trying to tackle this for a while, where would diplomatic actions from other kingdoms to you take place, my ideas are as follows:

1) You diplomat will (or can be) told to automatically deal with diplomatic matters, choosing trade deals ect when they are offered
2) You get notification at the end of a turn that such and such want to trade with you and have to decide on it there
3) There is a special diplomacy option in throne room where you can see all the diplomatic events backlogged

Perhaps a mix of all three, I wouldn't mind being able to choose between the three in game, maybe I don't want to deal with diplomacy so I hire a skilled diplomat and leave him to it, maybe I want to deal with them all directly at the end of my turn (however having the option to push that aside is also worth it in the case that there are 100 kingdoms)

I have definitely been reconsidering the combat lately, I want to discuss the change of pace, adding more stratergy (such as terrain and weather and time of day, troop morale, troop cohesiveness (Ie how well the army works together) and overall battlescore) also troops will have special abilities, there are random in battle events that can happen, there are chances that enemies or allies can show up and get involved in the fight, there are chances that the enemy army can route, as can yours, there are also wounded men on both sides who can be taken as prisoner or if they are you own, treated for their wounds.

Lots of stuff to think about

Might seem like a little update today but most of these are big features, tons of new laws exclusively for evil leaders as well as the ability o make your kingdom a slave kingdom, new saves made in this version of the game should be fine! Thanks to all the people who informed me of the 2 extra variables bug!

@Wastelander: Wow, there was a debug cheat for that already!

I've been trying to avoid using the cheat menu, partly because up until you posted that list, I didn't know the cheats, but partly because I worry temptation will get the better of me smile There's some really useful ones there though, even for making sure you get the right kind of start. Thanks!

There's still a little more customizability in changing the save files, I've currently got a pretty good Game of Thrones esque setup with the 5 independents as kingdoms with their correct names, leader names, backstories, descriptive types and unit names and made sure all of them were the same race of men, some had the psychoactive men and some were barbarians. I tweaked their growth rates to reflect their environments a little too. The IronBorn, for example, I've handicapped a little with a -5% growth rate, but slightly stronger peasants. I also chose to change the bandit group and mercenaries names and leaders accordingly too. And all in all I've got a pretty well-setup world. It's a fun game, too!

But, I'd rather do it in the debug menu if ever they come into there. Or certainly in any custom game setup if ever that feature makes it in.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm medalling too much.

Also, I have to let you know that I was playing another game of Warsim and I went to have a chat with the Demon Overlord when I was getting a little beat up. I actually asked him "What can I do for the cause?", and he told me to build him some big totems and conquer everything and yada yada. But after that, it was game over. I'm guessing he killed me for being too obsequious or something, but even so it didn't say. I'm not sure if this is a bug, thought you should know though.

It's not fully done yet, I haven't crafted the faction relationships yet and the nobility of the Iron Islands and the North are yet to be done as well. I'm also going to customize the exploration location names.

There's a couple of departures from cannan, I ended up starting out as a demon king, so thought Stannis was the one who might be seen as closest to a demon king due to his fanaticism for a foreign God. Granted, you have the ability to draft evil laws, which could be lots of fun, but probably don't suit his character, but I couldn't figure out where to tweak his alignment. So yeah, you're Stannis. Hence why you're on hard difficulty.

One of the races was mutants, so I decided to make them the Riverlands and explain the transformation in their backstory.

Feel free to give this a try and see what you guys think!

It would be so great if you can replace "Lands" with Quadrants or systems so modders could try to create something space based. MMM, i would love to try to create a star-trek-mod!:-)

I dont know if this next point ever was mentioned here. But, have you thought about starting the game with absolutely no knowledge of the map and discover all the other kingdoms by exploration?

Hi wastelander, if the sound system gets implemented, that could be even more interesting if it becomes modable as well, especially for a star trek mod, for example. But I don't know how far in the future the sound system is, if it is still planet. Another suggestion I have are independent enemies like Monsters or such wich you have to fight. I mean they could have nothing to do with the factions and kingdoms, but they could guard treasures or some areas as well. If you want access to these, you have to fight these creatures.

Instead, on the custom menu, allow us to change the designation, from lands to systems or whatever in the custom names.
