Hi,
I'm surprised that no one else has put this up here...
There is a dectalk bittorrent sync folder that is being maintained by Carlos Fernandez for the most part...
This also has some other old synthisizers such as sam and another one that I can't remember the name of...
If any of you guys are interested in joining, the secret is:
BFQETEL6FG4ERS3NAGHE2BXR6VMEWC7NH

and the NVDA addon that makes bittorrent sync more accessible if you don't already have it:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … nvda-addon
This is a really good project, and if you have any questions, please ask them here or on the dectalk list...
HTH,

Daniel

Hi.

Ok, so seeing as I am new to Bittorrent sync, I have some questions.
I downloaded the mac application and am really happy to see that it works with VoiceOver.
So, on to the questions.
When I set up the client, I entered the code I found on this forum topic.
Now, I've got a progress indicator that is ticking away and says something about 1 kb/up and 2. something mb/down.
Is this the downloading of the folder?
I think so since the sync folder in my home folder is getting bigger.
So, do I keep the client open until it's done downloading?
Will this folder stay up forever or does it go offline if the person hosting it shuts down the computer hosting the folder?
Sorry for the questions, but I am new to bit torrent sync.

also, I'd like to thank whoever put monolog in the archive. the link to it's sight was dead when I first heard of it, and since then I wanted to give it a try. only problem is, it is a 16 bit application, so it won't work on my computer, unless I get a vm of an older windows like, say, windows 98. if anyone knows where to find a working vm of a 32 bit windows system (preferably windows 95/98/me, I doubt it will work in xp given it was scrapped in the late 90s), do me a favor and either post the download link or put it in the archive as it will be useful for others.
also, the monti pithon bit staring votrax and a prototype of dectalk was just hilarious!

The applications should stay in the background, so you shouldn't need to have the window open all the time. The archive will stay up as long as Carlos wants it to. Since it is maintained by all of the people on the folder, it doesn't go down unless all of them do, and since it is stored locally, it can't be taken away from you. I'll let Carlos know about the 98 thing. Until then, I suggest you download the VMware image of windows 98 at
www.eurpod.net/vmware/windows98.zip
It has JAWS in it.

the link you gave me for the windows 98 vm is dead.

Hi, I got a message, you don't have enough permissions to sync a read-only folder. I am unsure of what this means. I made a new folder for the dectalk archive in my BT sync folder and pasted in the key an it won't work.

I'm not getting this issue, it's probably related to putting it in a system folder like program files.
on an unrelated note, and going back to the discussion on monolog, how do I transfer stuff to a windows98 virtual machine? VMware tools says shared folders are not supported under windows98. I tried using the automap network drive setting, but did nothing. this is rather frustrating.

Hi.

Ok, so I have a few problems.
First, the flex talk thing won't install on Windows XP.
Do I need Windows 98?
If so, how do I copy files to the eurpod Windows 98 virtual machine? the clipboard doesn't work.
I next tried this monolog thing and found it has a bunch of exe files. I ran monologs.exe and for some reason all sounds from XP are coming out of the left sound channel. I've tried rebooting but it doesn't help.
Anyone know how to fix my sound?
The volume control in XP doesn't fix the issue either.
What is all this stuff in the software and manuals folder?
I see a bunch of zip files which I assume are ductal but what is sam for windows and speak window with a bunch of version numbers?

edit

Actually, it may have been the other analog thing that messed up my sound. What is the difference between the two synthesizers anyway?

The dectalk speak windows are just different versions of the dectalk application. Sam windows is an emulator for a synth for the comodore 64 called sam. Sp0256.zip is simply the crappiest speech synthesizer in the histroy of eternity brought to windows.

2014-07-06 19:26:27 (edited by ammericandad2005 2014-07-06 19:29:52)

sp0256...the holy grail of all speech synthesisers. as crappy as it is, it was important milestone in the history of text to speech.
also, stspeech.exe. that is a port of the tts program that came with the Atari st.
monolog does work a bit under xp, you just have to use the clipboard. the DDE surver is of no use since DDE is not used anymore. for flextalk to work, you should install the sapi 4 runtimes manually. that is how I got it to work in the first place.
and don't you dair try to install flextalk in windows 7, as it has been known to destroy other installed sapi 4 engines.

Yeah it was. And I think, as robotic as it is, it was somewhat the first concatanative synth in the world, because there are wav files containing certain sounds.

2014-07-06 20:19:36

agree. but no time for chit chat, ghosts are dragging me out of the forums.

Just to clarify, does it contains the dectalk songs?

check out my instrumental music at http://ondrosik.bandcamp.com

yes. in fact, the contence is mostly identical to that of the (now defunct?) dectalk.com/archive.
