hi everyone!

after learning and asking a lot vvia this nice forum i was be able to write a little game based on the adventuregame aprone mansioned in the off-topic room.
but the game i've created uses the way aprone coded his game but with a few locations, descriptions make by myself and sapi voicing. and user imput of course.

this game is more user based then the bgt projects were. i can't say it enough, funny huh?

vieuw the page of the site on:

enjoy!

The only thing that's in the folder when I unzip it is the script file.

hi

@staindaddict

that's true, because sometimes vbs files are used to build virussus and at the general look the vbs files if youpost them somewhere or you send them per e-mail to another human the anti-virus system will be activated. that's why i created a rar file so the file can be downloaded and will not be caught by the anti-virus system.

but i can promise you that it is a game not a virus.
i am also learning to code them fore anoying people at my school.

but don't let us talk about the shadowside of programming.

i hope you'll enjoy the game.

Nice work Pelantas!  The game worked quite well and I feel you've done a great job turning that off topic discussion into a working game.

I thought up one way to improve it, if you don't mind hearing it.  Currently when you are asked where you want to go, you must listen to it all even after you have made your choice.  To fix this we just need to tell Sapi to stop talking after they have finished the inputbox line of code.  Here are the 2 lines of code you already have and I've added a small 3rd line after them.

voice.speak "were do you want to go? 1 for the castle, 2 for your own house, 3 for the forest, 4 for the plains, 5 for the portal or 6 to exit the game?", 3
temp = inputbox ("were do you want to go? 1 for the castle, 2 for your own house, 3 for the forest, 4 for the plains, 5 for the portal or 6 to exit the game?")
voice.speak "",3

hello,
when I unzip the file, there's only the script files.
and when i click on the script file, it says that I don't have the script engine to open the file.
can you help me?

This is not a signature.

hi

@dhruv

that's very strange, because i know that every windows system shouldn't have any problems with opening vbs files.
it sounds a bit clunky as is say this but maybe can other people like aprone, dark or cae jones help you.

if i had the possibility to help you i would

I haven't seen that error myself either, so I'd recommend typing it into yahoo or google to see what comes up.  If the computer you're using is at a school, I've known some schools to disable VBS on their machines just to prevent people from running unauthorized scripts.  I don't think it gives that same error though, so this might not be what is happening.

Hi, the file the path of the sword.rar is just 2k in size. Maybe the sword doesn't want to be played with.

2012-03-13 10:13:23

hi

@phill

it's true that the rar file is very small in size, but that's because the script is small too. but the last time i counted the lines it were 130 lines of code.
but the sword is included as well. i am sure the script is complete. but it is a bit searching and looking before you'll find the objects required for the king.

Not bad mike, I ran the thing and finished it and it worked out fine, all the text spoke without a hitch and the menues worked.

The only miner bug I encountered was that you always find the same item at a location and get the same message when you deliver it to the king. So for instance, I first found the obolisque Obalisk, took it to the king, was told to find the key, went back! to the forest sinse I thought I'd explore there and found another obalisk, which I took back to the king and got exactly the same message.
I don't think the code to close locations after you've picked up objects from them is working correctly.

Other than that it seemed to work out without a problem, though of course it'd need a fair bit of expantion to be a serious game, ---- still, good start there, and a distinct improvement over the last thing you did.

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)

hi

@dark
indeed i don't know any randomize codes to make the game more random. but i agree that the game needs more metenance. i need more advanced codes for randomizing the game and when the object is found, the location is closed.

maybe aprone can help me out

Pelantas I can't remember if I posted this on the other thread or not, but this little example game might help you since there is at least 1 part in it that uses a random number generator.  www.kaldobsky.com/game.vbs
