Here are some tips from the developers of the fantastic strategy world building game Worldsmith.

Originally posted on the blog at interactivefables.com, unfortunately, since that site and blog seem to have been consumed by the harsh turning sun of the internet they're no longer available there.

fortunately, the horologists of the wayback machine were able to preserve these tips from the cataclismic solar collapse, so they could be reproduced here for the edification of worldsmith's everywhere.

Though these strategies certainly aren't of dark's invention, he can confirm they work, having achieved the rank of worldsmith himself  employing them.

Worldsmith tips

Building Worlds and Life in Worldsmith is certainly not easy! So, we've put together a few hints and tips to help players to succeed in helping their civilizations to the Galactic Accord. If you are stuck, you might want to look at this 'top tips' strategy guide.

Without further ado, here's 15 hints and tips for the knowledgeable Apprentice.

1. Explore all your Worlds. You never know who you might meet!

2. In Story Mode, you only need to raise a single Civilization to the the Galactic Accord! If one of your Worlds fails, it's not the end of the World (well, literally, it is, but you know what we mean!)

3. You have plenty of ingredients. Use at least 4 Basics for a World and at least 3 Rhizomata for Life.

4. Pay attention to the Age of the Sun. The entries for the Eccentrics in the Incunable will tell you what Ages of the Sun the Eccentric can support Life from and to.

5. Try and avoid Gaseous Worlds. They're fun to create but horrible to manage.

6. Look at the Advanced commands. Moons, Dust and Patches will all help to make sure your Worlds and Life are viable. In Story mode, you do have some spare ingredients. Use them!

7. Earth and Air do not mix very well. Neither do Fire and Water.

8. The Ares Eccentric is NOT your friend. If you want to be sure a civilization will succeed, Helios and Gaian are your best chances.

9. Pay attention to the text after you have taught something to a Lifeform. It will indicate whether you need to continue teaching them or whether they've had all they can handle.

10. UNDO, as a command is enabled in Story mode after you TURN the sun. Failure of Life and Worlds is a probability. It may be the case that if Life fails, you have just been very very unlucky.

11. Phlegm is the least stable of the Rhizomata. Aetheric is the least stable of the Basics. Use them wisely and always make sure if you do, you are at least matching their quantities with the more stable ingredients like blood or earth or air.

12. Of all the Landmass types, plains are the most stable. Liquid Worlds tends towards stability.

13. Don't try and teach anything too advanced to a Lifeform. It's unlikely they can handle it.

14. If your World is unstable or Life tenuous, you DO need to do something about it. (HINT : Advanced commands are very useful here.)

15. The SAVE command, unlike Ares, IS your friend.

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)
