Finally!
I am just saying this now, but I found out about this on Sunday.
I am really happy that something like that is there, and yeah, I hope these games will be even more accessible.
If you want to listen to me play MK4 for PS1 on retroarch, heck this audio out.

I really hope that in some time, we will finally be able to play these games just like sighted people, like navigating menus without any OCR, just like in audio games

@353  how can I hear your video? Its not like YouTube with a play button on the screen. Also can you please tell me about the website too. Thanks

#354: looks like you have to download the file, it's just sound.

It would help if the player controls could be on the top instead of the bottom after all the responses. It took me three times until I could get it to play. I loved what I heard!!!

retroarches uses microsoft david i see, the accessibility of course

It does use your default speech synthesizer.
If you have davit set as default, it will use it

I've been working on improving the latency of the narrator in RetroArch.  I've modified the code to use a different way of calling the text-to-speech on windows.  For anyone who has had latency issues on windows, and would like to try building this, it's on https://github.com/BarryJRowe/RetroArch

The build instructions are the same as regular RetroArch, just git clone from my repo instead.  While there's still some things to change with it, I'm interested in seeing if this approach works better than the powershell one that's currently used.

Hi every one, I just downloaded and installed retro arch, I ran it, and don't know what to do, I try navigating using the arrow keys, but nothing happened, so what should I do now?

2020-01-21 17:10:32

@360: You'll need to enable accessibility. Please follow this guide:

Hi all. Any idea on how to run sega CD games? I download the sega MM / GG / CD genesis core however when I load a game it appears a quick menu.

going in to the wilds, collecting pokedex, and capturing them are my kind of thing,
training them, making them evolve, and generally making them stronger is my ultimate goal,
fighting other manamon tamers, winning the tournament, and fighting octoros are what these manamons like to do,
and ultimately, I become the master of mana!

Thanks, I turned accessibility mode on, and checked the guide, and every thing seems to be working properly.
I have 2 questions, the first, Can anyone helps me with a website that I can download retro arch roms from?
The second questions, how can I map the keyboard buttons, not the controller?
Best regards

2020-01-23 21:07:09

@364, mapping the keyboard is the same as mapping the controller. go to settings then go to keybinds. select the port you want to configure, then press the button.
on a keyboard, by default the Z button is X, or sometimes it's the B button on a nintendo consoles like the DS or the GBA. the X button is circle, or the A button on a nintendo consoles like the GBA or the DS. the A button is square, this maybe different for other consoles. the S button is square, this may also different for other consoles. the Q and W buttons is the triggers, however for some consoles like the PS1 has 4 trigger buttons, which is 2 on the left and 2 on the right.
the enter button is the start button, and the right shift button is the select button.
the arrow keys is for the D-pad, however for analog controls you need to set it up. in the controller settings menu there is an analog button however it's still empty so you need to set it up, cause most games for the PlayStation consoles need an analog stick to navigate.
also, you need to set up another button on the hot binds section, this is to perform the AI service. the good thing is if you have a controller you can set the button as well, so you don't need to go on to your keyboard to press it.

I'll try building this a bit later and report back. Would it be possible to use something like Tolk, or is Retroarch going for a no-external library approach?

Barry. I just compiled, and this is so much snappier. Thank you thank you thank you!

My only complaint here is that the volume of the sapi speach is really low, but man this is incredibly snappy! Definitely makes browsing so much nicer! Thank you very much!

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2020-01-24 07:06:29

I noticed two things.
1. By default sapi is being used at volume 80. for some speech engines, this seems to really make speech quiet.
2. Retro arch doesn't seem to be honoring the sapi language settings that Barry has made. Normally when RA speaks through Sapi, it's checking for MS david, but changing the default speech voice seems to cause it to either use a random voice, or in the case of eloquence, use eloquence itself. I haven't messed with this too much, but I feel like just telling sapi to use the default voice would be the best method.
I was going to add in tolk support just to see how that would work, but my c++ knowledge is very limited, and I've never used load_library, and would have 0 idea where to start on that.

@370, i don't know any programming languages, can you tell how to do it?

I also just got a compiled binary from a friend and tried it out, and yeah, this aproach is so so so much snappier. It also came up using my default voice which the previous one didn't.

<Insert passage from "The Book Of Chrome" here>

2020-01-25 00:23:09

Here is a link to the binary I compiled. I'm not responsable if something breaks or if it doesn't work, I just managed to get it working and thought I would share here.
The user is responsable for getting there own roms etc.

Hope that helps for anyone who wants to try testing it.

sound is what you make it

I was goign to post the binary but wasn't sure if I should/could or not. Really all I've done with mien is boost volume to 100 ercent. I'm still studying the best way to integrate Tolk, but it looks a bit more complex than I first thought.
