Hello,
I dont remember, maybe someone already posted about this but i want to ask, why you don't delete threads and instead close them?
Probably because in the end history is history. We can't learn from our mistakes if said mistakes are not recorded.
Hey president Truman, uh... Now that World War II is over, can we destroy all books about it and make sure America never hears about it again? It was just so toxic, and you know, I don't think it ever needs to be brought up again.
I do believe one of the former members of the old team did mension off hand that thread closure was preferred to preserve history. I think it was Dark, but don't quote me on that. Could have been Nocturnus or even both. I really don't remember. That, and it helps with looking back on things if a forum member raises a question regarding a ruling as in the racer max thing.
Well, to delete is to destroy. Yes, you can recover deleted files (sometimes!), but its far better not to attempt to suppress history. History needs to be told, and if you fail to tell it, someone else will. If computers aren't going to remember our history for us, and people refuse to write about it, we'll just have to fallback to the old method we've used since the beginning of time... memory and word of mouth.
It kinda goes like this.
When ever a thread is deleted, invariably a new topic will spring up asking why said thread was closed. So. Closing is preferred.
Whhhy do I need a record of all my pasts mistakes... Waaaaayyyy!
Simple. Then don't make mistakes. Lol.
Lol I understand now.
Also? If we deleted toxic or problematic threads instead of just closing them, how much do you folks want to bet that you'd have a vocal minority howling about how the staff team is trying to control freedom of speech, suppress information and generally rule the forum with an iron hand, a la dictatorial tyranny? We already have enough needless attacks on how we do things.
