First, download an ISO image of the Windows 10 installer.
https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10
If you're downloading using a Windows computer, use the media creation tool. After you download the tool, run it and choose to download an ISO file. Choose what edition of Windows you want and wait for the file to download.

Once that's done, create a new virtual machine and choose the ISO file for the virtual DVD drive and start the VM. If everything works correctly, it should load the Windows installer. Give it about a minute and then press Control+Windows+enter to start Narrator. At this point, go through the standard Windows installation process to install Windows 10 onto the virtual system.

sorry for double posting, but don't you need to enable intel VTX to run windows vista or higher?

@Remi Slight correction. You need to enable intel vtx hardware virtualization to run anything that is 64bit. If you're going to run Windows 10 in a vm, I'd sure hope you have more than enough ram.

@6 i have 8 gb of ram. is that enough?

Unfortunately not. Unless you want a very slow windows 10 experience. That means you can only reliably give it 4gb of ram, and that is not pretty. Trust me. If you can get your hands on a windows 10 upgrade I would recommend it over a virtual machine any day, just make sure you're on an ssd and not a sinning hard drive.

If you want a virtual machine for just messing around, get a windows xp virtual machine from https://grossgang.com/vmware

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.

There is. But you can use NVDA on it. The xp vm i got from grossgang’s sight came pre loaded with NVDA

4gb ram is just enough for windows 7, but it will be a bit painful in a virtual machine depending on your processor speed and amount of cores.

@15 so when in the VM I can just press ctrl+alt+N?
