Recently I've seen a few topics be closed without any kind of moderator post whatsoever. There is reason from members but not moderators. Examples of this is this one and this one. In both of these, no reason was given at all; the topic was just suddenly closed. The second one is especially f***ked up, especially since I cannot find any obvious reason for it being closed. This is extremely worrying; I would rather have a topic be closed for good reasons rather than no reason being provided at all. This isn't git hub where we close old issues;this is a forum.

Ther's a reason here, your not looking carefully. Adel spence said that his gf said that she doesn't need it and complained about that he can't close the topic, so the mod closed it.
In stw security, liam stated that this topic is useless and closed it, see also post 45.
It's all good to me, idk.

The first one was closed as it has far strayed from it's original purpose which turns out to be no purpose at all.
The second one was closed at the request of the original poster. However yes a message should have been written to explain this.
Just so you know I closed the first a few minutes ago. I had nothing to do with the second one though.

@3, ah. Its just unusual for me to see topics being closed without some kind of reason.
@2, yes, the OP said that it should be closed, but some kind of message should've been provided. As I said: this is not GitHub. This is a forum.

I could expound on my post in that topic if needed.
It just seemed pretty clear cut that it was degenerating quickly, and so I was attempting to be proactive.
I will say that we did get reports about the Adell topic including requests that it be closed upon request of the original poster. There should still be something to indicate that though.
Rule of thumb is. We're not going to close a topic unless
1. We get requests to close it.
2. The topic has steered away from it's intended purpose. or.
3. The topic has degenerated in to an all-out free for all.

The second topic really should not have been a thing anyways.

@6, agreed on the intense title.

woops, crap, deleted my post because I thought it was redundant LOL.

I feel like this topic, right here, is just a wee bit more incendiary than it needs to be. "Why are topics being closed?" is better than "topics being closed for no apparent reason".

I closed neither of these topics, but as stated, the latter was closed because the OP wanted it. It's a nonissue now and served its purpose.
The former needed closing, arguably, because it was just degenerating again, and frankly, this is not open season on the staff team, thanks kindly.

I understand the OP's frustration. I think everyone right now is on a hair triger.
However. If you're upset with something we're doing, could you please ask instead of being accusatory. I don't think you meant to come across as such, but the message does seem like you're pointing the finger at us.
I can only speak for myself, but I will not take actions on this forum unless there's a reason to do so. if I'm doing something you guys don't agree with, by all means please bring it up, but please don't start leveling both barrels at us.
When you write a post out of frustration. Take those extra few seconds, take a deep breath, reread it, and then decide if you want to post it. Also posting questiosn as oposed to statements tends to help too. I'm not at all upset this came up, but it is tough when we feel like we're being roasted over the coals without a chance to defend ourselves.

I've been on forums already where topics were closed without moderator statement if the op wants it closed. I know it's a bit unusual on this forum to have things closed without reason, but wouldn't it be okay if the op requests his thread be closed? Why does a moderator have to say, "okay we will honor your request." I know some people might like that as confirmation that the mods are acting on request rather than their own agenda, and I understand that everyone's trust is still pretty low as of late, but still, it's feeling more and more like the staff are constantly being questioned on motives. While this thread presents a legitimate concern that could be raised at any time, the way in which it was posted feels like it was fueled by other baggage and that isn't any way to regain trust. But whatever, I'm just spouting my two cents lol

Make more of less, that way you won't make less of more!
If you like what you're reading, please give a thumbs-up.

Na, it wasn't fueled by anything but confusion. Sorry about the accusation thing, I didn't mean to make it sound like that.

Hey no problem.
Like I said. I didn't think that's the path you were heading down, but just wanted to say something to head off a potential argument smile
