Seeing as it's Christmas in July and all that stuff, I wanted to do some updates to TGTR. My plan is to keep them simple, but if there are some minor features you feel like the game is missing, please write in here and let me know.

I really wish the game had audio achievements similar to super egg hunt. Also, what about an announcer? Similar to what scramble has?

Hopefully, we'll get a fully accessible open world game someday.

audio achievements take too long to record unfortunately.
I pondered an announcer, but I just didn't think it was the right fit for TGTR.

what about  a way to re-read  the original text from the achievements  when you look at them. would that be to hard to code?

No. That should be easy to code. I can add that.

How about more modes, where you try and avoid the toys while running into as many elves as possible?

A winner is you!

@Mitch how would that work? Running into an elf gets you killed.

2019-07-07 19:15:17

create an opasit mode. get elfes insted of toys.

I am a divine being. I can be called a primordial deity, but that might be pushing it, a smidge. I am the only one of my kind to have ten tails, with others having nine. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I have ascended my own race.

Extra modes would be cool, however it'd be interesting if there were some achievements which required the player to play differently. For example an achievement for picking up a certain amount of one toy and no others, or an achievement for running over the hole playing field irrespective  how many toys you get.

Also as a miner point, I sort of wish Santa had an actual evil ho ho ho like the one in futurama, since now the laughter is a bit none specific.

if you'd like me to have a go at recording some evil Santa voices for the game, I'd be glad to help, actually  that'd be quite fun to do big_smile.

@Dark, or, perhaps some unlockable lore/text. I'm actually wondering if Bobby is, indeed, facing the Santa we all know. I have a feeling, that since Santa's workshop is magical, what if the workshop is, well, doing it's magic? What if it's an extra special guard that Santa set up, after all, Santa likes to tinker with things. I don't see how this could be our world's Santa, the boss is not ho ho ho-ing, and the boss is squishing stuff.

Has it been seven months already? Wow...

@4: It's not a matter of how hard it is to code. Just a matter of how much time he has.

I think the old menu music from the first ever version of this game should be put back. Feels nostalgic in a way.  Either that or have an option between the two, new and old.

I would rather listen to someone who can actually play the harmonica than someone who somehow managed to lose seven of them. Me, 2019.

@Aaron, I kind of like the idea of evil Santa myself, one reason I'd like to see a bit more of him in the game, though as in fairness Naughty Mcnaughterson is basically burgling Santa's place and trying to get away with unjustified presents, so maybe this is more like extremely irritated Santa rather than literally evil Santa big_smile.

Actually one mode which might be cool, if we're adding extra modes might be to play as Santa trying to squash the pesky intruder, or grab up keys before he does to activate  the rocket powered slay.

What about bonuses for collecting the same type of toys? Example: if you get three random toys in five or seven seconds or whatever, generic bonus; that's fine. But if you get three trains, or three bouncing balls, maybe that bonus is a fair bit bigger since that's a lot harder to do? Would change the way scoring worked as well, and give it more flexibility.

Did you ever tweak the key bonus thing? Because it's often not worth it to actually get all the keys. I'd like to see the "got out after powering up Santa" bonus greater than 750 points. Maybe 1000, or at least 900.

Yeah it seems the more keys I get, the less of a score I get. lol

2019-07-08 12:46:44

That is the way it works. The goal is to get one or all seven and then get out. the goal being to do this in the shortest amount of time you can. Getting one key and finding that it opens a door near you will get you the most points.

correct. the more keys you get, the less of a bonus you get unless you get all keys and escape. it's sort of a risk vs. reward thing.
I do like the three toys of the same type thing.

Hello,
The old footsteps made it feel more like a kid was running through the shop. Maybe you can put in a nostalgia soundpack.

Heavy toys that slow you down but are worth a lot more points would be cool.
certain toys being throwable at elves would also be a fun little gimmick, say you throw a Frisbee  and it knocks Jimmy the elf off his Pogo stick freezing him for 10 seconds.

2019-07-09 01:48:03

I will probably not give toys a weight, but I'm really really digging this concept of having the ability to rack up points by collecting three of the same toy in a certain amount of time. hey, and you know what this means? more achievements!!!

More achievements

2019-07-11 00:54:00

I do not know if it would work, but something that would be cool is if there were certain toys you could pick up and certain ones you’re supposed to avoid

I'm not sure I like that idea. It's the whole concept of "get in, grab everything, get out". I would like to see -slightly more toys overall, mind you.

I would also love a way to deal with the elves, but I know that kind of defeats the purpose. Maybe bonus points if you do it. Perhaps Santa is so upset that he will squish elves if he's chasing you while they're nearby? I don't know.

This might be chaotic, but what about if, when Santa drops in, the elves don't actually disappear, and the toys currently on the map stay (but no new ones spawn), and toys are worth extra points? This would let you swipe just a little bit more on your way out the door, assuming you could pull it off. I always thought it was weird that Santa showed up and suddenly the board is wiped clean.

That said, I realize that some of these tweaks are probably more headache than they're worth.

Also, I get the whole concept of keys (I don't mind the decreasing bonus), it's just that most of the time, it's not worthwhile to get all seven keys and get out, if it's only worth 750 points. That's why I suggested that bonus increase to 1000 points or so.

And if you take my "toys and elves don't clear" idea, then maybe if you somehow manage to grab up all the toys on the map that are left, a big, big bonus (after all, Santa's hanging around, constantly getting faster, so it might be the sort of holy grail of bonuses).

So a kind of cool behind the scenes thing.
When Santa appears you're actually taken to a whole new grid that is smaller in size, and you're always placed at the bottom left.
