I liked the 1st part of the game Screaming strike pretty much, so I downloaded and installed it's 2nd part too.

However, it just refuses to run on my computer.
I found only 1 single executable file, play.exe which can, logically, start the game, but no matter how many times I reinstall the game, no matter in which way I try to run it, (run as administrator included), it just won't start, nothing happens at all after I run that exe--file, (as if I took no action at all), and since the game creates no desktop icon after installation either, this seems to be the only way to try to start the game.

Since I have a desktop computer with Windows 10 operating system on it, and am using NVDA screen reader, I normally downloaded the Windows version. (multiple times even)

I receive no alerts telling my antivirus or firewall have any problems with the game or its exe-file, but I turned off windows defender just to make sure...no changes.

Any idea what's wrong, any suggestions how to fix and solve this problem?

The game won't run on 32-bit computers. I think. Because it's happened to me also and my computer is 32-bit. Damnit developer

no mines 64 bit and it won't run.

2019-06-16 19:19:35

The game won't run if your system locale is set to something else other than English. I had a same problem. after changing the locale to English US the game runs just fine.

2019-06-16 20:20:37

Yeah, my system is 64bit as well...and yes, thanks for that local english setting, that will probably fix it, I already played games which required that in the past.

Aamir, mine is set to english, US

2019-06-16 21:35:21

Hi, so is mine. But mine does try to start, however when it does i get an error.

I think the game tries to configure the language according to your system locale. If nyanchan can tell us where the settings are located someone can set the game language to English and send a config file so you can get the game working.

Are you using 2.03?
The game is built as 32-bit binary, so post 2 is completely false. Please edit.

I am running 2.2 i think

2019-06-17 02:56:20

Then, try redownloading. It should be 2.03.

Guys, just a last, technical question:

Do I really have to keep changing that location setting to english/US each single time I wish to play the game, then change it back to my own region again after I am done, or is there perhaps some configuration setting in the game, some file which contains the location, and where I could simply rewrite the according line?

I mean some game-config-line like : location = english/US, which I could simply rewrite to location = Hungary, (or central europe, or however my time zone is called)

Yeah, I guess that would be too easy...but doesn't hurt to ask...and hope.

look in appdata, roming and screeming strike.
It is there, look at options.dat. you should change the language there
and what language are you using?

You're refering to system locale, aren't you?
You can install locale emulator and create a shortcut that makes the your specified application run using the specified locale setting.

Thanks ashleygrobler04, if that wont work I shall try what's suggested in the next post.
Living in Hungary, so it's my system language and local setting.

Edit:
Nope, can't find any game-related directory under "app data-roaming", so I guess that 2nd alternative remains...or to keep changing local settings each time before, and after  playing the game, phewww.

2019-06-17 13:53:59

do you have version 2.03? in appdata look in all the folders. local and roming, i can't remember where it is but yeah, it should save there

I did look in all of the directories, local, local low, I already did similar operations with those while sighted...no, it just cannot be found anywhere.

What version you mean, the game? Is there a way, a file, or a link to update it without being able to run it?

Edit:
Found, downloaded, and installed that newest version of the game, everything runs just fine now, many thanks for all your help guys!
I recommend the download linkof the game given here, on this website, to lead directly to the newest version, in order to avoid problems similar to mine in the future.

Actually there is still a minor issue, a slight inconvenience I found: Arcade mode doesn't feature the online high score list.

It actually exists of course, but the game cannot access it, it says it's not featured by this version.
(the latest one accordingly)

Other game modes don't have this problem.

So if anyone can help me to fix even this...then really all my troubles will end. smile

Hi, i have the newest version now, but when I run the game I still get the error. My system locale is already on english US, but I tried app locale and that didn't work either. There is no options.dat file in the screaming strike 2 folder in roaming. It looks like it's not even being created.
