Hey all.

I thought I would post this topic as I have not seen anything online from visually impaired people talking about these genres and subjects.
Which has prompted me to start this topic for people to socialise and share tips and tricks, collaborate or ask for assistance.
Everyone is welcome  to comment from seasoned veterans to curious minds.

I don't mind assisting people to the best of my ability. with all the knowledge tips and tricks I have picked up in the last year navigating these new Territories by myself.
I have been contemplating starting to do videos documenting my experiences along the way. I find myself being easily distracted and wandering off doing something else.

I hope this topic help someone in anyway as I wish there was one when I started

Hello, . Being as I work in this field along with many other professional stuff that I do on a day to day bassist, It's important to ask yourself, first, what DAW you would like to use to accomplish what you need. I use Logic and sometimes, reaper to do what I need to do. Logic for making my beats and doing a lot of my mixing, while, reaper for doing professional mastering and getting tracks ready for distribution. If you want to check out some of my stuff, just look up Jonathan Candler in your music services of choice. . Apple music, Spotify, and more! With that being said, There's a lot of stuff that you should probs get a hold of when getting started. Drum samples, 808 samples, and more. Some of the plugins that I use are the following. This is logic only. Kumplete control, Sylinth, and sometimes Leathel if I can't find sounds that I want in either of the 2 stated above that I'm looking. Then, there's EXS 24, which a lot of my drum kits are going into. Have about 9 gigs of nothing but samples, and adding more all the time to my collection. Should you have any questions regarding all of this, feel free to let me know.

@post 2 thanks for the recommendation, he is a talented artist.
@post 3 what is your weapon of choice Mac or windows?
@post 4 Nice to meet you bud. it's always a pleasure to meet another visually impaired producer.
My mixing and mastering are my weak points of my arsenal I think lol. so would love to pick up some tips and tricks from yourself one day.

My weapons of choice are,
Windows. Reaper. Komplete kontrol. Omnisphere. Splice. And a couple more Vsts.

At post 5, I'd be willing to show you some stuff both, with mixing and mastering. Mastering is a whole different animal than mixing. Mastering is not all about bringing up the over all levels of a track, it's also about, EQ, apply as little as possible depending on the mix you're given, how much compression you use and sometimes, you'll use different plugins depending on what you're mastering. It's not an easy task to do. Was mastering a track one day and it took most of like, the whole day to actually do. Now with that being said, How much is Omnisphere.? Been wanting to get it, but you know, been working on other things around here.

That is much appreciated buddy, Anything that helps my lacklustre mixing and mastering skills lol.
I was very fortunate and was given the software by a friend so wouldn't know the price but can have a look for you.
Damn it's £340 = $442 usd.

Cableguys halftime and shaperbox or the equivalent to gross beats on fruity loops studio.

I also wanted to get in to making beats and things with reaper. Does anyone have any good tutorials to get me started? I know how to record and simple things like that but I don't know for example, how to make highhat patterns and how to combine things together

My goal was to make a couple tutorials demonstrating how to do certain tasks when it comes to this topic. Unfortunately real life family issues have got in the way but I will try my best to do this very soon.
In the meanwhile I will be making templates sound packs and links to all the necessary basic setup that is needed.
I shall have some free time during the end of this week and the weekend so I will start recording then.

Quick little update had some free time available last night so put together a little beginners pack.
Which includes the following, Daw. Reaper and all the necessary add-ons to make it accessible.
A couple free VST effects and a addon for complete control controllers which makes the keyboard functions accessible on reaper.
A couple of templates to get you started and a sound pack which includes a couple of sounds I have laying around.
I will make a video which will be exploring all the items in the pack from setting up 2 composing and whatever else people suggest in this topic.

Disclaimer I am not a expert at all I am a fellow beginner that has been gathering and learning most the tricks and tips I will be showcasing in the videos. So if you're interested come along and we can learn and explore this beautiful thing they call music together.

Well, if you want a quick trick/tip I've used countless times, then here you are. Lots of times, when listening to trap or hip hop music, you'll probably hear hats and other percs at various different pitches within the song. For forever, I couldn't figure out how in the world to replicate this, but finally I did. I'm a logic user, and what I'd do is go ahead and activate note repeater and lay down a couple patterns. But here's the thing. I used a sampler instrument which I had loaded one hat sound into at the c3 note, and then I created my pattern on just that. After that had been recorded, I'd jump into the piano roll, (which, for all those who don't know, is a list of every single midi note/event within the selected region) and I'd simply change some of the notes to be different, thus they deviated in pitch from the main sample. I automated some panning, added some percussion, and finally after some trial and error, I got it down.  This should work in any daw, really.

Yes, making beets at the beginning kinda complicate me, but as I'm using a midi sequencer and the yamaha keyboard that I've just purchased 2 years ago, kinda eazy don't know but any professional help or recomendations when I'm on windows appreciated al galope.

2. Free fx vsts & komplete kontrol keyboard add-on for reaper.
3. Sound pack (from 808)
4. Reaper templates. The templates will made from sounds that are included in this pack.

About the templates: Can I specify the default addres where the files are stored? I don't want to locate every file every time... Btw, thanks for that samples, still looking for some trap horns tough.

check my sounds on
freesound

2019-06-01 10:21:54

Once you have launched the templates and located all the files necessary ,  you can save them as templates or save them as a project ,

By doing this next time you load the project you no longer need to locate the files.

2019-06-01 10:28:48

If you want some free trap sounds read it is your friend just search  drum kits.
When I get some more free time I'll gather some more sounds and templates if  people desire

2019-06-01 15:26:41

This sounds cool as hell.
How and where do i view and edit the paterns with reaper? i have installed all the required addons that came in the zip?

best regards
never give up on what ever you are doing.

2019-06-02 03:02:33

If you load the templates as I have suggested above ,  it should make things a lot easier to edit and manipulate to your pleasure .
As if you don't have a midi keyboard you can go into the midi editor and move the items around .

Ok, thanks

2019-06-02 08:43:16

Hi, i have looked at it, but sadly this window does not appear to be accessible enought for me to move the items around... sorry i am still new to reaper

best regards

Once you have installed all add-ons in the numbered order you should have full access to Reaper.
Once you open up the templates pick the instruments that you want to edit and press control plus left arrow and it should highlight the midi file,  then you should press control plus E key &  it will open up the MIDI piano roll.
