Hey, Darrel.

Let me say that I am very happy for you. I am going to send you some feedback that would make the Madden game so much enjoyable for the blind.

2019-02-21 08:41:30

Hi.
Wow, this is awesome. Congratulations! I thought the accessibility was going down the hill because we haven't heard from Karen for very long time.
I hope so much that Narrator on the Xbox will read the menus in Madden and all other text in the future. If everything is being read, then I think it would be easier for those who are new to the game to get started. That would also make the game much more accessible.
The menus in Crackdown 3 and Division 2 are read out loud by Narrator. Then, EA can do that as well.
Then, here in Europe, it would be amazing if Fifa could be made accessible as well. I don't know much about the game, so I can't give any feedback regarding this.
It would be amazing if we had talking menus in UFC as well. I don't know about other sport games which might be playable.
Keep up the fantastic job. This is extremely exciting news.

Best regards SLJ.

Hi.
Yeah, Fifa would also be the next big throw, at leased for me. I am normally not a huge soccer watching person, but playing Fifa was always something I wanted to do. I suppose with the next fifa already down the pipe later this year i guess it will be to late for any accessibility improovments, it would still be awesome though.

Greetings Moritz.

While it's great that they're focusing on sport games, how about their other titles like The Sims? I have been trying to contact someone regarding improving the accessibility of that game, but have heard nothing.

Also what about stuff like Apex Legends, the Star Wars titles etc?

2019-02-21 18:17:21

Hi,
Agreed, it would be awesome if FIFA was accessible.
But I also agree with Chris and Aaron, EA should be looking into improving the accessibility of their non-Sports titles as well.

Greetings and happy gaming, Julian

Darrel, congrats! I personally stopped playing Madden a while ago because for whatever reason I could never was able to actually pass the ball, and I always got intercepted.
I do personally hope that the microsoft speech SDK is implemented, or something of the sort.

A winner is you!

Hi everyone. You haven't heard much from me as I've been very busy and have been spread way too thin. I'm really glad to have Darrell on board to help out. Thanks - Karen Stevens

Hi Karen.
It's nice to hear from you again, and it's great to hear that you are still working and fighting for accessibility. Keep up the fantastic job.

Best regards SLJ.

Well, EA can't bring us to the pitch, sadly. But 2K Games can, who doesn't have anybody to consult for them...

I've posted feedback in the EA forum for that very thing, and got no response.  Perhaps now that you work there in an official capacity, you can get Ms. Stevens to actually read it, and that will change.  The link to that post is:

@JLove - I did see your post. I've been spread too thin to cover everything adequately, so haven't been replying on the forums. Filing pretty much guarantees they're seen, but the only thing I could even say is "thank you for your feedback". I unfortunately can't give details on how feedback may or may not impact future or current products. However, it has been seen by the teams.

Thanks, Karen Stevens

Hey, Darrel.

Did you get my email that I sent on Wensday night?

2019-02-22 08:51:52

Hi.
Regarding Apex Legends: I wish I could give a lot of feedback, but here is the feedback I'm able to give so far:
1. Fix the menus. They are the most inaccessible menus I ever have seen. You need to move a cursor around like a mouse, and a selection sound is heard when the cursor lands on a menu. Because of that, I find the menus impossible to navigate.
2. There is an accessibility menu. It mention voiced menus. The only thing they do is to say the following:
Press A to access the lobby, and something like holding the view button to access the chat.
Since I'm not able to navigate the menus at all, I'm not able to give any feedback on the gameplay, because I can't even start the game. smile
Apex Legends would be a great title to have accessible, mainly because the game is free. If people then get a great accessibility experience, then they might buy other games which are accessible.

Best regards SLJ.

Hi.
Are there any projects EA is currently putting their focus on regarding accessibility? As i said, my personall favorite would be Fifa, with the american national sport, NFL covered, it also would be cool to get more european players which can be atracted by a sport which is played in their continents as well, in this case, soccer.

Greetings Moritz.

Not sure what game you are referring to SLJ.  The narrated main menus of Madden do work.  If you turn on menu narration, you should hear "exhibition," "franchise," "messenger," etc., as you arrow across them.  Once inside, however, you do need OCR.  This is why I have said that narration should be passed to all menus.  I know it's possible.  Let me know where you're getting stuck and I will try to assist you.

@21 SLJ is talking about Apex Legends, not Madden

2019-02-23 05:31:37

Here is a interesting question. Being that the NFL is supporting the new football league call AAF.
Will the AAF be on the next Madden game? I really enjoy the AAF.

2019-02-23 21:16:41

That would probably have to be a separate game.

Yes post 18, I did get your message, and I sent it on to Karen.  Post 19 yes I agree with you, the mouse navigation in a console game is not the way to go. Post 20, all I can say wich isn't much is that I can't say anything.
