If you're not paying for the product, you are the product. If ever you do find yourself a free web host of any kind, take 5 seconds and ask yourself what they're doing to keep themselves in business. Then, once you've had time to guess at a couple possible answers, quit being cheap and pay up.

The short answer is you don't. If you do in fact find a free one, I would be very cautious. They probably inject advertisements everywhere or do something equally annoying.
If you want a cheap VPS, try Linode's 1 GB plan for $5. FOr $5 a month, you get 1 TB bandwidth, 25 GB storage, 1 CPU core, and 1 GB RAM. This is what I use to run all my game servers, and it works very well. I believe Vultr has an even cheaper plan for $2.50, but I don't know if that one is the best to use. From what I can tell, you get very very bad specifications.

They have a *slightly* better one for $3.50 a month, but the $2.50 is sold out. Seriously, just go with either of their $5 plans. If you really want to go cheap, get a raspberry pi for a one off payment of $35 and while you'll never have to pay again (theoretically) I wouldn't go running game servers on the thing. Also, nothing is great on residential internet, and a vps will be at the front-end of the internet. Don't even look for free vps's that just doesn't even make sense. People who need to be paid include the people actually deploying these machines in different locations, and no doubt the machines themselves.
Now I've heard some talk about Scaleway, but can't really speak to its success rate. I know that they're using arm v8 64bit cpu's so they're able to fit more in a cheaper price, but it seems like you have to provide some, uh, identification? to them to open the smtp ports. Supposedly it's a spam prevention mechanism.

+1 for Linode. I moved all of my personal stuff over to them shortly before godaddy bought out my previous host and they started their long trek towards failure. I don't run any official game servers yet, but I do have a MUD codebase running that one of these days I'll actually start doing something with. Mine's $20, but if I wasn't also running web things I could probably get away with $5.

There are no free VPS providers. There are no dedicated server providers. Technically there are no free web hosting providers, either. If you want anything like that, pay for it. And none of us should have to tell you how to pay -- you should know already how to do that. If you don't, buying things is the last thing you should concern yourself with.

I found a free VPS service, you will just have to pay me 30000000 dollars to find out what it is. Includes 1 CPU core, 2 GB RAM, and wait, 300000000 KB of 90's HDD storage!
