Host eclipse.cs.pdx.edu port 7680.

Okay this is a game I've been hearing about for literally years but haven't played until now, particularly because I think its been down for a while, but its definitely back up now.

I can't say too much as i've not gone so far yet I'm still trying to decide the best way to build a character, but I have heard this game has an awesome newbie experience which it does.
I believe the focus is a little like four dimensions, being hacknslash but with quests added on, though it has a far  interesting advancement system than the usual practice and train variety, as well as skills that range from smithing and coligraphy to more standard weapons and mining, and skills that actually give players more points.

The writing is extremely beautiful, even combat descriptions, and combat being in two second rounds also seems to be at a more reasonable pace than many games which is good.

I'll be able to say more when I've played on a bit further, but  thought old hands would appreciate knowing the game is back up, and newbies might want to get into trying things the way I am.

There are screen reader tips Here

And while the section on mud clients is a wee bit out of date, the section on configuring the game is worth reading.

Hi there,

I can say for sure that the whole experiense in playing new moon is unlike any mud I have played. In every room description you actually have to find things that are hidden plus there are certain mobs around that give out quests and the like. So far its a wonderful mud that has opertunities for rp, but its not required for anyone that cannot.

Hi.
So, how is the consistency regarding the commands. I remember that in 4 dimensions for example the characters from the different ages had to be greeted with a special wording like hail or howdy, but sometimes they didn't stick to what age they were coming from and wouldn't react to their actual greeting method.

So, how does new moon refer to that?

Greetings Moritz.

Greetings,

So far the commands are pretty consistant from what I have seen in the short time I have played there. usually the commands you wanna know are search which will search your general vicinity and you can also type search obj where obj is the thing you were looking at. Most off the say commands are quite consistant as well. Hope that helps.

Hi.
hmm, sounds good.

One questions which I really couldnt find out in the threat, is this a fantasy mud or scie fy? If it is a fantasy mud I would need to think again about trying it out, had quite a lot of these recently.

Greetings Moritz.

I saw that mudrammer was mentioned on here. I got it for my phone. I was just curious if others use it besides the one user and what others think about it. I can't seem to figure out how to make a trigger and if its better with a bluetooth keyboard.

Why didn't the Romans find algebra difficult?

@Simba, new moon is a fantasy mud, with races like elf, dwarf and orc, however it has a slightly different guild system where you join a guild like the priests or the mages, advance a bit and then get to specialise, for  if your a fighter you can later become a knight or a ranger.
It has lots of skills you learn by doing and from the brief look I saw the commands were consistant, EG search, say and so on.

the only issy I have is that firstly it employs the "say x to y"  of mob interaction, meaning that when you meet a mob, you need to hang around to see if they speak to you and what yu might need to do to them, secondly, while the game has quests there isn't a quest journal or the like  finding quests or knowing what quests your on or even what to do next can be a bit odd. though I freely admit I haven't spent lots of time with this one so its entirely possible quests are less obscure than it appears.

For the record, that's Chaos Knight, which is by and far different in every way from the traditional knight.
The mud has no sound pack, as far as I know. Given how slow advancement is and how many hundreds of combat messages there are, I don't see one happening any time soon either. Not to mention the fact that you can have up to a dozen combat messages in one round depending on your spam filter. If combat is slow for you you probably don't have enough dex to do the higher level content.
If anyone would like to see some of what's possible, look up Karnath, Fael, Nightblade or Gamling in the hall of heroes. Only one of these is my character.

Hello all!
So so so... I've created a character and started the tutorial. Tutorial which is, I must admit, definitly well written, epically designed. But... But I'm not sure about how to start.
I seem to have visited all the tutorial zone, and I've noticed only two rooms dedicated to classes. One for mages, and one for warriors.
Besides this, I'm not sure if I need to choose a class, adjusting my race and stats to it, or reverse the process and choose my character's attributes first.
Finally, there are mini quests I'm not sure about, but I guess I just need to get used to the exploration system itself. ONe question though : can I find everything I'm looking for with the search command? I mean, with the search command, will my character always do the right manipulation on the target ?

Best regard,
Simon

@Arkandias there are four training areas in the tutorial zone for thief, priest, warrior and mage.
Thief is in the library, and priest in the south end of the temple behind the screen, notice that "screen" is written as a possible exit.

You need to serch object as well as search generally, for example search bookshelf.

For choosing race and stats, look at the table in the north end of the temple, you can set your stats, gener and race there, though that is really as far as I have gotten myself.

Hello!
Yep, actually I hadn't realised that every quest in the tuto was related to a class. I'll keep searching then.

Best regard,
Simon

For the tutorial, search will usually work. Though there is one spot where you need to do something else. For the rest of the mud, no search will not always do what you want. There is a lot of obscure guess the command in this game.
