Hello all,

I currently got ahold of the shadowrun 5th edition core rulebook.
My question is, is there anyone who would rp over skype?
Currently i'm in the process of getting the book into accessible or let's say intelligible format, but i'm willing to write down all the rules in a txt file organized to the needs of us blindies if there'd be players.
Currently nothing's sure, just gauging interest if it'd be worth it or not.

is this like d&d? If so, then hell yes! the only problem is I can't use my skyep, because forks, and I've been trying to make a new one but skype doesn't want to work with me, I have a teamtalk server if that is ok. We could use that maybe? Describe the game for me though a bit, never heard of it, but I've played d&d 5th edition for a while so...

TT is even better, to be honest. We could use that. Shadowrun is a tabletop rpg like dungeons and dragons, but in an other setting. The gameworld is 21st century modern today, but with a few notable twists. First, according to game history, on the 24th of December, in 2011, the awakening happened, the world awakened, meaning that magic resurfaced. Around 10 percent of Normal humans did undergo a process called goblinization, which means that they changed into other races, thus elves, dwarves, orks, and trolls reappeared on Earth, along some variants of these races, and other fantasy creatures like dragons. Then megacorporations emerged, and nowadays they control the earth more or less. Technology developed, and what before was just prosthetics became cyberware, things which you get implanted into your body and they make you stronger, quicker, make your eyes see in the infrared spectrum, and so many others which i won't list only if you ask, i could ramble on and on. So what are you in this universe? You are a shadowrunner, a guy who is in the shadows, doing illegitimate work which the corps or individual people ask them to do for nuyen and reputation. Nuyen is the worldwide currency now. These jobs are called shadowruns, and they can be anything like breaking into Shiavase INC's databanks in the matrix, the successor of the today's internet and retrieving some juicy data about research which the Johnson, a common term for these jobgivers wants. Or maybe you're required to deliver a vial of dragonblood to an alchemist, seem's simple, right? Yea, untill you notice five squads of the Japanese Yakuza trailing behind you and your buddies wanting the stuff for themselves. How did they figure it out that you have it? Maybe your jobgiver double crossed you, or they have a poverful decker on their team. Right, we're down to an other topic. In the game you can create any type of character that you want, but there are a lot of archetypes which you can select from, including street samuray, a guy who outfits himself or herself with the most expensive, top line cyberware, guns and other weapons, and becomes a killing machine, a decker, the hacker of today, who connects with the matrix with his trusty cyberdeck, stealing data from huge corps, and selling it to the highest bidder, or helping his team of shadowrunners by cracking an electronic door of the mentioned Shiavase INC from the matrix and letting his heavy gun wielding friends to break in without shooting a single bullet, the rigger, a person who controls drones or cars from his rigdeck with his mind from a distance, thus allowing him to effectively direct an army of drones upon a rival shadowrunner team, or on the most poor gang of Seattle who decided to rob him. Or, at least, tried to rob him.

Okay, i guess that was enough for the introduction, sorry for ranting away, i'm a huge fan of shadowrun and it's history and the universe.

To add to Arnold18's description, there are also various other magical creatures about, like Ghouls, Vampires, and Bandersnatches, sentient AI, and dragons which are viciously intelligent, some of which sitting as the heads of corporations. If someones telling you to ship a vial of dragons blood, you'd best think long and hard about taking that job because those critters love convoluted machiavellian plots, and do not play nice.

Suffice it to say it can make for a very rich cyberpunk setting with all manner of weirdness. Shadowrunners, the characters you play as, are best described as disposable mercenaries who run in the shadows of the massive and monstrously wealthy corporations, who are nations unto themselves and beholden to no one. Runs can involve stealing information, kidnapping, assassinations, corporate espionage, sabotage, drug running, or simple baby sitting or escort jobs. But any job can go sideways, you never know if your clients telling you everything or using you as bait, whether you have to choose between your paycheck or your morality, or if they'll just decide to ice you and leave no witnesses.

I can help you with rules and stuff if you want, though we need to wait cause then i'll need to get this rulebook into a presentable format if there'd be players. I'll try to do it like in a span of a month atmost. Some tabbles are downright unusable, so i need to think and see where i can get those tables from in a readable format.

how wil you handle the dice system? I'd say you role 20 but it's not accessible at all it's shite.

2019-02-10 15:22:07

I've never done anything like this before, but I really enjoyed the awakened worlds shadowrun mud. Would it be okay if I sat in and muted my mic on one of these to see if I liked it?

GMA Dice is pretty good too right?

2019-02-10 22:06:57

I would also be interested in joining the game. GMA dice is what I usually use for dice rolls.

does it let you role multi
ples?

2019-02-11 01:09:41

rolz does allow multi, as well as complex math:
2d3+(5/2d7)+8*(2d6+5)
It works.
Gma dice is kind of slow.

@Arnold18
I also have a 5th edition Shadowrun book lying around, though i've never really used it. If you need any tables transcribed I can try putting something together, though i'm not sure about posting it publicly as the playbooks themselves are copyrighted. PM perhaps?

Magurp,  i already sent you a pm regarding this big_smile To the players who don't know shadowrun, i'll put together first the life in the sixth world chapter of the book and put it somewhere, then you could get a feel for the game.

Hail, Daughter of Hatred. Creator of Sanctuary. Hail...Lilith.

2019-02-11 02:01:43

Is email more preferable? I meant more PM'ing transcriptions. Anyway, is there any page or table in particular or just a general transcription? A more general transcription could take awhile...

A general transcription would be nice because i wouldn't need to figure out tabbles on my own. We could stick to pms if you want but i rarely check them.

A general transcription? There are close to 500 pages, including the tables and character sheets, is there any formatting preference? A single document per page or all of them in a single document? Any preference for graphical elements like pictures? They could be translated into something more readable with Brushtone for example, or maybe an ascii representation? It would be a bit more straight forward with a single document per page for indexing, though some pages cut sentences between them.

I'll handle the text portions, i need help only with the tabbles.

Ah ok, thats a bit of a relief, heh. Which table would you like to start with?

Let me see, i didn't encounter too inaccessible and incorrectable stuff yet, but i'll surely will, particularly in the equipment list i guess. I'll write here if i need any particular help, don't want to have you too strained, making this stuff into usable format is a task for those who love shadowrun. And maybe i'll get help from my own country too, we'll see. To the future players, would you see the first section of the book that's the lore and stuff now, or should  i do the whole thing and post then?
